bmw 31 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The question is many suspension companies offer springs which lower the car more at the front than at the back - for example Cobra offer a sring kit which lowers the front by 50mm and the back by 30mm, i was speaking to a freind and he said this would mess the whole ride up completley, is it better to get a srpring kit which lowers evenly all round or does it not make much difference. The reason i want to lower it more at the front is just as all E36\'s the front arch is placed higher than the back arch which i am worried if i lower evenly all round may look a little silly??? any help appreciated. Adjustment of Idle Mixture Cavalier 27 Aug 2003 (Forum)
My concern is that occasionally the Engine Management Light comes on, it does not flash and the 'Paper Clip test Method' shows all '12's and no fault. The advice of an expert would be much appreciated. One other observation, the adjustmet seems to make little difference, it certainly does not affect performance! Regards Nikki -
Clutch question 27 Aug 2003 (Forum)
- I'm really only guessing 'cos I know nowt about motors!). My local Volvo dealer will no doubt be happy to 'rob' me of ££££'s to do this job but I'd rather not line their pockets if I don't have to so how do I go about this ? My local indy guy won't be able to do it I'm sure, but will probably just farm it out somewhere. -
Motorcycle engine cleaning tips 24 Aug 2003 (Forum)
t seem to lift the dirt and oil and is as dirty as before. I have been contemplating the use of some of the products on sale including Autoglym?s engine cleaner but I am afraid that the liquid or water may enter the engine or electrics causing problems. Can anyone give some sound advice on this? Can these products be used to clean underneath the engine as well. -
Positive observations ! 16 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Despite her initial paranoia about all the cars (yes there are probably more in SE London than the whole of Slovakia) it wasn't long before my S-I-L was crossing the roads with confidence and allowing V Junior #1 to push the baby along in the pram. It's nice to have something pleasant to say about driving in the UK for once - perhaps we are guilty of seeing only the negatives sometimes. -
Minor paintwork repair 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I am after some advice. I noticed this morning that someone had left a scrape from my o/s rear bumper going along just above the wheel arch and ending a little way into the passenger door, probably done by someone reversing out of a car park space next to mine (needless to say no note was left!) -
renault clio dti erratic acceleration 6 Aug 2003 (Forum)
This most occurs accelerating in 4th abd 5th between 50 to 70 mph. Also - and it may be me - the turbo isn\'t whistling as much as it use to. It\'s had belts changed at 44k, but at the full service at 36k they filled it with 10/30 oil instead of 10/40. Surely oil can\'t make this big difference?! And I\'m due to drive to cornwall from yorkshire on friday - should I be worried?? -
What the best chip/filter for Mk3 VR6?? 30 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I was planning on having a VIPER INDUCTION KIT installed, but im worried about spending £250 on a filter and not archieving decent gains. I am new on the Golf VR6 scene, so i would appreciate any help from peeps who have suped up VR6's -
AC - Cross threaded spark plug 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My questions are: a) Could it keep running without problems for some time (it does not seem to have affected it so far) b) Is there an alternative to having the cylinder head reconditioned? (if not, then I\'m going to trade it in because it\'s worth less than the cost of the work). I was think along the lines of the way a tap & die is used in similar circumstances, but not sure if it can be done with a car. Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated. -
1996 Endura 1.3 Ka Cutting out! 22 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi guys..........I don\'t know if you\'re fed up with hearing about Ford\'s that cut out but I have a similar problem. My 1996 Ford Ka cuts out when dropping from high revs (75-80 mph in 5th) to idle.........this only seems to happen when the car is warm. I\'ve tested this when the car is at a standstill by opening the throttle up to high revs and then shutting it quickly - this causes the car to splutter and die! -
Tyre Wear Rant 20 May 2003 (Forum)
I have just visited my local tyre retailer and they have informed me that my front Pirelli P6000's are worn out at 14k miles!!! I will be asking Volvo why they fit such crap tyres on a £26k car (V70 D5 SE). I know, Pirelli sell them cheap to car manufactures because no one else will buy them. I don't do racing starts, I stick to speed limits (except on motorways) basically drive the car sensibly. -
The Back Room Poll 16 May 2003 (Forum)
So as from the beginning of next week (barring hiccups) we\'ll be running a poll (kindly supplied free of charge by http://www.alxnet.com ). Wowbagger\'s suggestions included \"How long is it since you last read the Highway Code?\", so that will be the subject of the first poll, but if anyone else has suggestions for subsequent polls, post them here in this thread and we\'ll use the best ones. -
Choosing an urban car 16 May 2003 (Forum)
All seem competent and much the same price, within about £1000, with some shopping around. The mix is brand new discounted Yaris T3 (the revised one), nearly new Civic 3-door S (garage courtesy car) and low mileage pre-May update yellowish Jazz SE. I can't make a rational choice except I think maybe the Civic could have been thrashed by the uncaring. The Jazz is a horrid colour, so the Yaris is leading by a nose. -
If not Laguna, then what?? 30 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I can probably get most things in the £18-24k band (and a bit above), but lease costs are obviously higher for stuff like audis/beemers/mercs etc. I know I can get a Mondeo diesel Ghia X for the same outlay s the renault, but I don't think it looks as good, and I'm not keen on the look of the passat either. You just seem to get a far better equipped car for your money with the renault (and i admit it - I like toys!) -
Clio petrol pump 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Daughter's friend brought round a 1.2 Clio S-reg today with a very noisy petrol pump. Renault dealer says £350 to replace while independent local garage says around £240. The dealer says the flow of fuel is within spec so the pump operation is OK apart from what sounds like mechanical (but plasticky) noise. -
Deep throaty Rover 17 Feb 2003 (Forum)
1) Please don\'t post the same thing in both Discussion and Technical Matters. Its pointless and wastes people\'s time. In addition, this is a subject for Technical Matters so I have deleted it from Discussion. 2) Please use mixed case. All upper case is regarded as shouting and not polite on the web. 3) Meaningful titles will tend to get you help much more quickly. -
Merc E Class problems 6 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My wife has a 25,000m E320CDi (9/2000 vintage)with a few problems, neither of which the dealer has been able to find. First one is a strange 'flapping' noise from the O/S rear wheel, which appears intermittently when pulling away. We've checked the tyres etc. Lastly, the steering intermittently groans around the centre line at all speeds. If you turn off the engine and restart it often disappears for the next few days, especially if the dealer starts it up,,,,, As an aside, do any other readers have a disintegrating carpet? -

Motoring Joke 8 Dec 2002 (Forum)
He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tyres! So I called him a piece of horse s**t. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket for a cracked windshield. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him, the more tickets he wrote. -
Ford remote locking keys 29 Nov 2002 (Forum)
How can I prove whether it is the key or the car that is faulty? Does anything need "reprogramming to make it work again? Can anyone explain in layman`s terms how this remote system works? If it is the key that is faulty , how do I obtain a new one...presumably from the local Ford dealer....and what sort of price is it? note: The only other key that I posess for this car is "Red" in colour and I was told that this is essential in order to obtain a replacement key.
