VW Transporter - engine running problem 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)
It will start off normal but as soon one accelerates it, it looses power and would not drive faster than 40m/h, showing an uneven run with slight backfiring with foot off the pedal. Ignition is ok, new spark plugs has been fitted, HT leads tested, carburetor cleaned, idling adjusted. Any ideas? Thanks Peter petervm@lineone.co.uk -
Cycle carriers 3 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Also, I think I know the anser to this, but what if someone runs into you from the rear - does it then possibly lead to a bike being pushed through your window? Any thoughts would be appreciated... -
Mondeo ABS 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
This turns out to be a failure of the Fr RHS brake to operate properly, and it seems that the difference between the 2 front brake would lead to an MoT failure. After checking out the system, it seems that the problem is caused by a failure of the ABS control unit - which I'm told will cost £700 + labour i.e. best part of £1,000 to put right. -
Rover 220 Coupe Problems 10 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I've tried disconnecting the following to determine a problem: Lambda Sensor ATS CTS TPS Idle control stepper motor Changed fuel relay, HT Coil, rotor arm and lead to distributor. Rover dealer had the car for a week and found no problem but tightened an earth connection. Problem returned the next hot day. Really stratching my head now and would appreciate any help. -
Renault Avantime 9 Jun 2002 (Forum)
The styling grew on me and in dark colours it looks particularly good. However, I've got a sneaky suspicion this is going to be a residual lead balloon when it comes to trade in time. Any Renault fans want to disagree? Simon -
Rover Sterling 827 2 Jun 2002 (Forum)
One day, the hot air failed to work, cold air OK. Engine gets to normal working temp. We flushed out the inlet/outlet pipes leading to the heater matrix and the matrix itself - all clear and unobstructed - still no hot air. The fan and control panel are OK. The inlet/outlet hoses do not get hot and it appears that the hot water is not reaching the heater. -
2.5 V6 Omega Pathitic Performance 9 Feb 2002 (Forum)
There is a bit of hesitation at low revs, and light throttle, though have put this down to a damaged spark lead, as can see arcing in the vicinity from time to time. Anyone any ideas, I was thinking as the engine is covered in oil crankshaft position sensor or the like is may be playing up. -
De-icing test. 16 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Thought I'd try the mains fan heater trick as mentioned in previous threads. Absolutely brilliant! Popped the extension lead out from the shed and put a small fan heater on the passenger floor. Set the 1KW output, thermostat to medium and left it for ten minutes. On returning not only was the car warm but all the ice had gone from the outside of the windows as well as the ice/condensation from the inside. -
Rover flywheel wear 4 Apr 2001 (Forum)
This is annoying because two years ago I replaced the flywheel as the old one had severe wear on the teeth. At that time the starter jammed & refused to operate at all, leading to several AA call outs. Has anyone experienced similar? -
New car privacy concerns 23 Jul 2025 (Forum)
On top of all this, I’ve read about issues with connected cars drawing constant power from the 12V batteries in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, leading to flat battery problems. For instance, the UK Yaris Hybrid has faced complaints about this very issue. It’s frustrating to think that the technology designed to enhance my driving experience could also lead to unexpected inconveniences. -
Ford Focus 51 plate 1600 auto 130,000 miles - Focus electrical problems is it terminal ? 22 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I have booster pack that will not start the car fully charged when in this condition but it will normally start with jump leads from another car but start like it has a low battery. As soon as you connect a running car you get all the normal ignition lights. It happened again today, and today I noticed that a relay in the auxillary relay box in the engine unit was also clicking rapidly. -
Report says 80 mph speed limit is bad for......... 9 Jan 2012 (Forum)
One of the statistical models being used by the Department for Transport suggests that an 80mph limit would lead to a 20 per cent rise in fatalities on the UK's motorways Proposals to increase the maximum speed limit will cost lives, harm the environment and produce few of the economic benefits claimed by the Government, a report warns. -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.2 Starts then wont start 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Almost every sensor has been replaced in the last year by Renault, new crank sense loom, metal crash box removed, new coil and leads, relays by the battery checked and terminals cleaned, (although it will run from cold and can be restarted when hot) Its almost as if something that energises the coil, cuts out after ign is turned off and is failing to switch on again after its been run... -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 1.9 Running fine, now won't start! 5 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I have subsequently removed the battery and put it on charge to rule out power supply problems. I also tried turning the car over with jump leads from the negative terminal of the battery to the engine and chassis as well as having the jump leads connected to another car battery (as if jump starting) There were no warning lights displayed on the dash at anytime. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 97 1.6 car does not start in the wet... 2 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Initially the starter motor gave up so I reconditioned it - end of probs (so I thought) once the cold/wet weather began the car struggled to start but once it had then it was ok for the rest of the day. I duly replaced the coil-pack, HT leads, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor (there was evidence of arcking on the rotor and 2 of the HT leads) I still endured the non start on cold/wet days ( in the dry no problems...) I had the battery checked by a well-known motor accessory store it showed that the battery was at 13.5 volts but only 47% starting capacity. -
Ford KA 2008 1.3 Zetec Petrol - Part location, EVAP Purge Valve. 18 Mar 2024 (Forum)
My KA is reluctant to start in the morning, I have replaced the plugs and ignition leads. The garage laptop tells me the fault lies with the following:- EVAP Purge Valve. Apparently Ford do not now hold any in stock nor do the local dealers in Swindon. Would anyone know where I might be able to purchase a new one? -
Four legged rather than 4 wheel drives - Horses plus accidents 10 Feb 2024 (Forum)
However I do not approve of riderless horses or ponies being led on a rein; it is tricky enough to control one horse, but they should not be holding or controlling riderless horse/pony. Even more so when leading 2,3 or 4 others. This should be made illegal. I wonder how they would come off if an accident occurs as they are very definitely not in control. Are they insured for such events? -
Suzuki Vitara 2015 on - Looking to buy a Vitara Or SX4 S Cross 12 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Hi Im looking for some advice as I will shortly be in the market for a 2015 or later Vitara auto. I am lead to believe the early auto units are the twin clutch breed, I would like to know if these are reliable and do not have the cultch trouble of some other makes. I was considering a ford Kuga until I searched for info on this site and thought otherwise As I currently average around 15,000 miles per annum prior to lock down and it looks as if I'll be doing around 8,000, the diesel option would be out. -
Fiat Doblo Van - Strange battery issue 3 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I tried to restart it and it was completely dead. No lights on the dash, nothing. I connected the negative jump lead back on to the chassis (saw a spark) and tried again. Totally dead. Do I need a new battery? -
Nissan Almera 2003 No way to unlock my car when ? 24 May 2020 (Forum)
Last week I had a major fail. I left the light switched all day and my battery went dead. With a set of jump leads in the boot I thought now problem. Until I realised the is no way to get into the car as it has no manual key locks. I search the net and people spoke about one on the passenger door. But not on this model.
