Lunch between M6 & Swindon 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Any personal recommendations for a good lunch somewhere on the backroads between M42/M6 and Swindon on a Sunday afternoon. Cost isn't important but good seafood is a must. Kevin... {motoring related, so moved from IHAQ} -
Mazda MX5 (1989 - 1998) - Eunos Roadster - Cat Required? 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I have just bought a 1992 Mazda Mx-5. The car is imported and on the V5, the only date of registration is 1992 i.e. no month specified. Underneath the car, the cat has rusted away, i think it's only the outer casing that's rusted. I plan to get the car MOT'd and am unsure what date of registration voided the need for a cat. -
Which Car for under 2k 16 May 2008 (Forum)
Hi, i need to replace my current car with a cheap second hand car. The most important factor is reliability! I am 20 years old and have 2 years no claims so insurance is still a factor in what car i want. i would also like the car to be good on mpg and have reasonable power maybe a 1.4 or 1.6. -
How green was my alley? 2 May 2008 (Forum)
Carlos Ghosan says the car will not be boring to drive and they have signed a deal with Israel because that country imposes an import duty of 70% on cars but only 10% if they are electric. This made me wonder. What, at a minimum, would an electric car have to do to interest you and not be boring? And what incentive would assist you in making the decision to go for a greener but probably less comfortable and less enjoyable car? -
Question about car prices in the 1960s. 17 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My question is "What would the respective prices of these various cars have been?" (Price was always an important consideration in my family.) And since some of the cars were French, what would the respective prices have been had we been buying in France? -
ECU problem - Ford Focus tdci 27 Jul 2007 (Forum)
My 03 plate Focus 1.8 tdci broke down last week and after a week and a half of trying to figure out the problem, the garage has told me it is the ecu which controls the immobiliser on the fuel pump. Said they'd only ever seen one like it before. They've got to import the part as there's none in the country. I've been quoted £1,100 to repair the problem. Does this sound right? I'm a complete girl when it comes to cars, so I'm a bit worried about being ripped off. -
How much is 'cost' price 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
And to prove they are not making any money on the deal they will show me all the invoice paperwork. Gosh I am so impotent - I mean important. Any way - the letter is in the shredder now but it did cause me to think what is cost and what discount on brochure price would they be offering. I thought it was about 5% - is this correct ? -
Registration query re emmisions 17 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The reason it was registered was because of euro emmisions regs it would not have been able to be registered as new after Dec 2003. So now if it was imported into the UK and registered here would if have a 03 or 53 plate based in it's date of first registration in France and it's emmisions compliance at that time? Or would it have a Q plate, or perhaps it could not be registered here at all now because it does not comply with euro emmisions regs at the point of first registration here? -
10 10 till we meet again 15 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I remember fitting my rig in the Fiat 131 about 1980, with a single short aerial disguised (badly) to look like a regular car aerial. By 1981 I know I was importing the infamous Jaws2 rig in numbers (a super tiny little rig - easy to hide) and selling down the meets at the watering holes. So were they right? is 1981 the birth of UK CB radio h ttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4789887.stm ------------------------------ T our V an M an TM < Ex RF > -
Donor Cards for Drivers. 7 Jun 2006 (Forum)
This could have been any one of us. The guy's response is what got me. I could whinge on about how valuable life is and how important our friends and colleagues are. To drag it on to topic, and nothing to do with the story, as a direct result of this I have signed up as a organ donor remember if you have a bump you may rely on a donor. -

Flashing a trucker. 17 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Took a slowish cruise along the M25 today in not too much of a hurry to a non important business meeting, so this involved plodding along in lane one. During my trip I was overtaken by countless HGV's who left it quite a long time before returning into my lane maybe because judging the distance between them and me is quite difficult? -
Ford Mustang 31 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Nice article in Saturday's DT Motoring section about James Cracknell's '67 Mustang import. Good to see the younger brigade discovering what we've known for years, that proper muscle cars emanated from Detroit. He didn't quite get it right though, a 351 cu in Boss Mustang 1969 was a lot more car. -
Crazy moments 21 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Maybe the rider does not realise that bikes at night on a motorway blend in quite well with all the other lights. Crazy and is anything really that important to take such a risk? -
Vectra C SRi - Looking for quieter tyres 9 Jul 2004 (Forum)
As the front tyres are coming up for replacement, I would like to find something a little more comfy and most important, quiet. The Goodyears seem to be an excellent all round tyre, but they are very noisy on certain surfaces.. Anyone know of a quieter alternative in the 215/50 17 sizes? I did try pirelli p6000's on the omega and they were pretty good, but not necessarily ideal. -
Low Insurance, reliable, estate? 25 May 2004 (Forum)
I'll also be doing some long trips down south every few months but as the cost of these would be shared fuel economy isn't so important. Cars i've considered so far are: Skoda Felicia Estate (seem to be rare) Nissan Almera Any more ideas? Many thanks, Damian -

Valuing an Audi A6 2.5TDi 18 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I am finding it very difficult to know the market value (guides produce huge variations because of the high milage. It is an imported car of high specification including leather seats and sports suspension. It has a full Audi service history and is in good condition, having done much of its milage on motorways. Is the 2.5TDi engine good for high milage if serviced properly or is it likely to be expensive to keep going to 250,000 miles? -
Cheap Zafira 10 May 2003 (Forum)
The whole tranaction was carried out totally efficiently and we are delighted to have a car at £1400 less than Vauxahlls "special" internet price. A main dealer in London told us that it must be an import at that price. The dealers here are asking 9k for 3 year old ones !! No connection with B4C but have not seen a deal anywhere near this elsewhere just a very happy customer PS Honest John on your list of brokers today no mention of Vauxhalls under B4C! -
Driving instructors 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Garrison's comment about being taught to apply the brake progressively when doing an emergency stop made me think about my driving instructor... Even as a beginner, he stressed the importance of watching far ahead and anticipating threats in the distance as well as up close. That's not really in the driving test, and a lot of people don't seem to grasp that until they become more experienced.
