Yet 18 cars later a 13k mile 2003/53 reg Audi A3 TDI 140 SE six-speed made a whopping £16,400: more than you have to pay brand new for essentially the same car in the more sober suit of a Golf Mk V. Other mileagy motors not making the money were a 99k mile 2001X Rover 75 2.0 CDT Club in nice Wedgwood blue, sold for £5,050; an unwarranted mileage 98S Mercedes ML320, sold for £12,550; a 90k mile 2001Y BMW 320CI 2.2 coupe, sold for £11,700; a 101k mile 2001Y Mercedes C200K Classic, sold for £9,350; an 82k mile 2001Y BMW 530iSE, sold for £10,200 and a clean, new shape 84k mile 2001X Mondeo 2.0 Zetec sold for a ridiculously low £3,975.

  £20,200 looked a lot to me for a 7,000 mile 2000W BMW 323i 4-door and at £9,400 a 66,000 mile Audi A3 1.8T Sport was plain expensive. So was £11,050 for a 54,000 mile 98R BMW 328i. But a couple of under-performers were a 42,000 mile 98R Jaguar XK8, sold for £28,450, and a 29,000 mile 99T Mercedes CLK 3.2 Elegance gone for £27,000.

  Other VAG cars making strong money included a pair of 99T Skoda Felicia 1.3Glis with power steering and around 18,000 miles apiece which sold for £3,850 to £4,000, a pair of 99V Skoda Octavia 1.8SLXis with 15,000 and 16,000 miles which sold for £7,050 and £6,800 and an 84,000 mile 98R Audi A4 TDI 110 which sold for £8,050. Of somewhat less appeal were a dealer group's selection of pre-registered Land Rovers. Two 2000X reg Freelander 1.8i 5-door models with just 2 and 46 miles under their wheels bid to £11,750 and £12,400; a 2000W 1.8Xi 5-door with 62 miles bid to £12,300; a 2000W DI Softback with 26 miles bid to £11,350; but the biggest loser was a 28 mile December 2000X Discovery 4.0 litre V8 GS 7-seater which bid to a derisory £15,700 against its current list price of £27,115.

  Someone must have got the PD 130 in mind when they bid £16,550 for a 6,000 mile 02 reg Audi A4 TDI PD 100 SE. A 6,000 mile 2001/51 Rover 75 2.0CDT Club Tourer in Wedgwood Blue bid to a strong £13,600. An 85,000 mile 99V 323iSE looked very sensible at a top bid of £8,400, but it was in white.

  Skoda announces Virtual Cockpit for Octavia, Superb, Karoq and Kodiaq 8 Oct 2018 (News)
  Skoda is to offer a Virtual Cockpit in place of conventional dials on selected Octavia, Superb, Karoq and Kodiaq models. The system, which is already available on many Volkswagen and Audi models, uses a hi-res TFT screen which allows drivers to select from a choice of different displays where you'd normally find a rev counter and speedometer. In total, five different basic layouts are available - all available to have their appearance individually tuned.

  Cars of particular note to sell during the auction included the ex-Dodi Fayed 1988 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 Cabriolet, which sold for £27,025, a 1987 Audi quattro and a 1965 Jaguar E-type Series I 4.2 fixed head coupé which both sold for more than £10,000 over their pre-sale estimates at £31,050 and £50,600 respectively. Meanwhile the car to make the most on the day was a 1952 Bentley Mk VI Special by Charles Teall which also sold above its pre-sale estimate, fetching £52,900.
