When did you last see a `Tiger Tail`? 1 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Alternatively, does anyone remember being motored to the coast (Bridlington) for their holiday as a kid in the 50`s and everyone, adults and children alike, wearing pork pie hats with a long feather? Regards -
Can bacteria grow in fuel with 2.5% biofuel? 10 May 2008 (Forum)
The Sun is reporting today: "JELLYFISH blobs which grow in greener petrol and diesel could wreck car engines, a motoring expert warned yesterday. The alert follows the move towards bio-fuels. Every gallon sold on Britain?s forecourts since April 1 contains 2.5 per cent of the crop and vegetable-based additive. But unless garages spend £1,000 a time flushing out their tanks regularly, bacteria rapidly multiplies in the mixture. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 1999 (T) 1.6 GLX - clutch problem 11 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It only happens after i've just changed gear and give it full throttle, after a few minutes it settles down and drives fine and dosen't slip again until i change gear. the car has 94,000 miles on the clock so it s probably still the original clutch. What would like to know is, does the clutch sound knackered to you guys or can you adjust them at all? If i'm looking at a new clutch does any of you's know a rough time estimate or price for a garage to do a job like this? -

Is it sensible to buy a NEW model/technology. 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The word technology may be stretching the point but my question is this:- Having read one or two reports about the so called reliable brands having trouble with new models or technology, namely Mazda with the early 5's, the first Honda Civics (being only as reliable as a Golf in recent surveys) and Honda diesels (e.g. - new technology to Honda) giving people problems, should we wait a couple of years after the launch before we buy with our own hard earned. -

Skoda Fabia 2 (2007 - ) - Fabia 2 Estate 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
After owning eight generally reliable, well built and comfortable VW's am thinking of getting rid of the old 2001 Passat Estate S PD (6 yo and 106k). Well actually SWMBO said I can. I want to buy new - yes -I have been through the almost new route in the past with some niggles.Having read the enthusiastic Autocar write up I have been checking the Skoda on -line brochure. -
Effects of Speed on Fuel Economy 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
They are saying that 50MPH is the most economical speed for the average car, travelling at 60MPH increases consumption by 21%, 70MPH +35%, 80MPH +42%, 90MPH +48%. I know these are averages but if I try to put some meat on the bones and use my car (1.8 TDCI S-Max) which gets around 50MPG at 60MPH: 50MPH - 60.5MPG 60MPH - 50MPG 70MPH - 44.8MPG 80MPH - 42.6MPG 90MPH - 40.9MPG Now to me the 50MPH and 70MPH seems reasonable but the 80MPH and 90MPH figures seem way off, I would get considerably lower MPG's that they estimate. -
Subaru Forester (1997 - 2002) - 00 Brakes coming on when reversing 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My 2000 Forester S has a tendency for the brakes to come on when reversing and have the impression may be worse uphill which not normally a big problem but seems to be happening more often. As soon as car goes forward they release so I presume it's something to do with the hillholder clutch mechanism which understand uses some sort of gravity sensor i.e. car facing upwards on slope retains sufficient brake pressure to hold car when footbrake released and clutch pedal depressed, however my logic says that reverse acceleration would be the same as facing downhill. -
Cross-ply Tyres 7 Nov 2007 (Forum)
· A two-axle vehicle with single rear wheels must not have radial ply tyres on the front axle if cross ply tyres are fitted to the rear axle. I assume that this statement is a legacy from the 70?s when Cross-ply tyres were common place, and Radials were just becoming popular, also at the time that this rule would have applied most cars would be rear-wheel drive. Supposing cross-plies were still available to fit, and considering most cars are now front wheel drive, is it still sensible to ? -

Tyvek Cover going 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Does anyone know what the Tyvek actaully is, iut appears to be some soft papery material overlaid with some kind of metallicy looking thin foil or coating They were not that cheap, although nowhere near a made-to-measure cover, I am wondering if it is better to invest in a more durable brand/material. Any recommendations ?? s -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - HDI 90 Coolant warning lights keep coming on 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
There appears to be absolutely nothing wrong with it, the header tank level is normal, no steam, no water loss, the electric fan (s) are tripped in , radiator and pipes all feel fine. Car restarts fine sometimes it will run for a while before doing it again sometimes it does it straight away. Yesterday I drove 40 miles no problem, and halfway back it did it again. -

Amortising Diesel Costs 7 Sep 2007 (Forum)
"..Do the sums and at £2,000 cheaper than the 1.6 CRDI and £200 less fuel cost per 10,000 miles it?s going to take 100,000 miles to make up the difference in purchase price..." In other words at present fuel prices, the increased fuel consumption of the petrol car is offset by its lower purchase price such that until you get to 100,000 the actual saving to you if you buy the diesel is nil. -

Magnets - New Snake Oil Nonsense 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have just received a new catalogue, which appears to have taken over from "Innovations". Not naming it a s I am going to pretty scathing! The latest magnetic manifestations include the usual fuel line magnets but these work in a new way."- - The activated hydrogen and oxygen molecules bombard the combustion chamber, cleaning the injector nozzles and removing carbon and varnish build up" The next device is alleged to assist with Masculine Difficulties.
