buying new, or second hand 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Living in Montpellier in France, i want to splash out soonish and get a reliable motor, something extremely economic and cheap to run. Diesel is a must. But want to avoid garrage bills and costly servicing. Was thinking either about a credit option or saving up and paying cash on a used or cheapish new motor. -
Channel Robbers 24 May 2004 (Forum)
Last year on 25th May I booked a crossing by Eurotunnel for the 27th May for a three day stay in France. It cost £59. I have just tried to do the same again for next week and received a quote of £173. Tried P&O, Seafrance and Speedferries. Cheapest was Speedferries at £140. I won't be going - think I'll buy some cheap Tesco wine and a couple of cigars instead. -
Fiesta 1.25 LX 1996 front suspension 25 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I am told the bushes are not replaceable, replace whole arm only. How easy is this job? My Haynes manual is in France, and the MoT tester said it can be a little difficult, 'splitting and then lining up ball joints' because of the stiffness of the new rubbers. Have access to pit which may make it easier? Any comments pse. pmh (was peter) -
Refitting Golf exhaust to manifold 27 May 2003 (Forum)
Getting it off was easy enough (with a hammer) but I'm told I need a special tool to put it back on (VW3049A). Living in France that tool will cost the value of the car or will be impossible to find. Any ideas / tips / tricks would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Steve -
Toyota Yaris Diahatsu YRV 7 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I am thinking of buying one to use as a wheel barrow and to take kids to and from footie matches- I might even take it for a leisurly potter through France next year. I don't need a great car but just something that gets reliably from a to b with economy if little 'style'. -
Electric failure (temporary) Merc 11 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I have 1998 C class Mercedes estate 1800, auto, which is great - except that while my wife was driving in France there was sudden electric failure covering windscreen cleaner, turn flashers, and door s were unlocked. A friend with an E class said a similar thing happened to him. With my own car it was the second time it has happened - but without any attention all is now ok.... any ideas or has anyone else the same problem? -
Cavalier Success 13 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Just returned from a two week tour of France. For reasons too complicated to explain, we ended up taking my wife?s Cavalier (1994, 90K bought for £1,700 about a year ago). It gave faultless service, accommodated four adults and luggage with ease, was smooth and comfortable, had adequate performance and achieved about 37mpg. -

Mitsubishi Outlander - VAG 2.0 engined outlander losing power 4 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The engine is the 2.0 VAG diesel, the car is on an 09 plate. Any thoughts on what this might have been? (Buying diesel in rural France for 1.04 Euro (about 80p) was like going back to the 90s!) -

Anyway 2 months later the car broke down with broken transmission whilst in france. We had done 2500 miles. I got in touch with the dealer a number of times when the car was repatriated to UK but they absolutely refused to have any more involvement - I was told if I drove it home then they had no responsibility for repair. -
