  • The Short Arm of The Law 9 Aug 2001 (Forum)
During the course of conversation she asked him why the two outer lanes to the pumps were often coned off. He told her that the security cameras could not pick up those lanes, so unless it was busy they were shut in order to discourage drive-offs. She jokingly said that now she knew that, she would know which lane to use if she wanted to do a runner without paying.
  • welsh assembly cracks down on drivers 13 Sep 2001 (Forum)
She suggests bans on drivers drinking during the working day, speed limiters on cars and a vast increase in speed cameras. Speed limiters were alleged to have caused a 24% increase in deaths amongst lorry drivers when first introduced and cameras do nothing for road safety as proved by the recent lies told by those in authority following the ?
  • Skoda, BMW, Audi and Toyota - Car opinions 7 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Things that are important to me are safety and reliability.  Heated seats and windscreen and reversing cameras are nice to have and  preferably an automatic.  I'm not looking at a hybrid.  Budget of no more than £19,000.  Thank you.
  • Sorento - Center console issue 15 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I have checked the fuses and all that are either console-related or non-specified look fine. Guessing this could be due to the back up camera but looking for direction before going down the wrong path. Thanks  (Link deleted)
  • C - M5 Roadworks 23 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Yesterday I had the pleasure of using the M5 in both directions, this involved miles of narrow lanes with 50mph average speed cameras, the return was worse, from the M6 junction there are miles of roadworks and NO WORKERS, no wonder the “works” take so long, the only person I saw was a digger driver laying back in his seat on his phone.
  • Vauxhall Insignia - Requirement to Identify The Driver 29 Jul 2015 (Forum)
We requested photographic evidence which arrived in the post today.  It was a rear facing camera though and only shows the back of the car.  No driver. Can anyone advise on the course of action I should take? Thanks
  • Motorway roadworks 1 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Is it me, or is there a huge number of roadworks on the motorway network at the moment? Most of them are 50 mph, no workers, and enforced by average speed cameras. They all seem to be for totally pointless schemes like sign replacements and changing the central barrier to concrete. Drove me nuts last week after I came across what seemed like the 30th set.
  • National speed limit 50 15 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The government is to cut the national speed limit from 60mph to 50mph on most of Britain?s roads, enforced by a new generation of average speed cameras. The reduction , to be imposed as early as next year, will affect two thirds of the country?s road network. Drivers will still be able to reach 70mph on motorways and dual carriageways and 60mph on the safest A roads.
  • Why are parts of A13 40mph? 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
And, another thing, going the other way from Dagenham towards Thurrock there is a 40mph limit with a speed camera about 20yds before it becomes a 50mph limit. What is the point of that? other than to catch people toeing it when they see the 50 roundel.
  • Today's "youth" - laugh or cry? 13 May 2008 (Forum)
A couple of months ago my son went through a speed camera at 80 on a NSL dual carriageway - because it was "marginal" he was offered a speed training course, at his expense of course, which he accepted rather than have points on his now clean licence. Literally, on his way home from the course he was flashed at 51 in a 40 limit, the NIP arrived this morning.
  • SPECS at night? 6 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I have seen the question raised in a previous thread about whether SPECS cameras can read number plates at night and the answer was yes - by infra red. I was intrigued by the number of cars passing me last night in the (in)famous M1 roadworks between Luton and the M25 - I was doing a constant 50 but lost count of the cars (and lorries) passing me, and not just creeping past at 51 but hurtling past.
  • NIP'd in Essex 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Completely trashed my 35 year clean licence. Serves me right for lack of attention in an area where there are more cameras than people. One minute it's 30, next it's 40, 30, 40, 30, 40. In the words of the famous philosopher Homer.....DOH!
  • 130mph Bike Cops Get A Let-Off 10 Nov 2007 (Forum)
From the Daily Record: TWO English police motorcyclists were let off for speeding at up to 130mph through a Scottish accident blackspot. The Northumbria Police officers were snapped by Lothian and Borders Police cameras on the A68, near Jedburgh, at 123mph and 130mph on the same day. Lothian and Borders Police served notice they intended to prosecute but the action was dropped when it was explained the officers were engaged in "training exercises".
  • Wheel damaged by pothole - redress? 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I'm writing a letter to the highways office at the local authority now - can I recover the cost of a new wheel and tyre from the authority, and how do I go about it? Unfortunately I was without a camera on Sunday, so I don't have a photo of the pothole. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  • Driving Awareness in lieu of 3points? 26 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hello, The wife has been caught speeding by the local "Safety Camera Partnership". She was doing 36mph in a 30 zone. The standard penalty is £60 fine and 3pts. Does anyone know about the "Driving Awarenes" alternative? Is it true that you can offer to take one of these (or are they randomly offered??)

Are those nasty roadworks round Stansted a thing of the past? Anything else I should avoid? Nasty camera traps? Thanks all, Barchettaman
  • Police filming bikers or not... 5 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Police apparently now filming bikers at bike meets looking to identify those bikers who speed past forward facing cameras. In an interesting twist one biker approached two guys who stated they were from South Wales police and produced police ID. Upon being contacted by MCN South Wales police insisted it wasn't them and the guys might be bike thieves posing as police officers.
  • Driving to the UK 2 Jun 2006 (Forum)
does the BR have any tips on what to look out for nowadays while driving in the UK? Being on the lookout for speed cameras and being careful to hide all evidence of SatNav from the lowlife come to mind. Thanks, BIG
  • Traffic Offence avoiding prosecution 28 Oct 2004 (Forum)
A rash decision to carry on through a light as it changed and the car with a another family member driving was caught on camera. Since I had just bought the car and not processed the transfer the summons first went to the previous owner. He forwarded my name as required and some 3 weeks later I got the summons. My name is spelt wrongly, address is correct and car registration.
