Traffic Offence avoiding prosecution - Peter C
A rash decision to carry on through a light as it changed and the car with a another family member driving was caught on camera. Since I had just bought the car and not processed the transfer the summons first went to the previous owner. He forwarded my name as required and some 3 weeks later I got the summons. My name is spelt wrongly, address is correct and car registration. Any chance we can wriggle out of it on the name mistake?

Cheers

I doubt it very much.

The previous owner did his duty and gave the details as best as he could. The misspelling of the name may be down to him.

I assume you have received the notice as the car was sold to you. If so you are then requred by law to present the name of the person driving it.

Sorry

No

...and if you haven't notified DVLA of the change of ownership that's another offence, which if taken to Court you can receieve a disqualification for.

Tsk.

Has the V5 been officially processed now or do you still have it in his name ? Might be able to suggest something...

Traffic Offence avoiding prosecution - just a bloke
forget trying to "wriggle out of it".

Pay up and look big, you knew you were doing the wong thing, this time you got caught, chalk it up.

Could have given false details when he bought it. Common practice at car auctions in particular and has the authorities tearing their hair out. I'm not suggesting that he should - just an idea - albeit illegal.
