Whining Honda alternator 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
(or something like that). Should I make any checks?Voltage output check seems a bit simplistic. Anyone any ideas? Adam or J S perhaps? All the best, Mike -
cleaning window guides 14 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My electric windows are not working very smoothly and judder over the last fraction of the range prior to shutting. The newly acquired S/H car has been valeted prior to collection and I suspect some of the sticky cleaner stuff that some dealers insist on using is the cause. I think it is on/in the window seals. On an old thread the advice seems to be that silicone in some form will make the windows operate more easily.I am looking for some dry silicone as used for curtain track. -
The Mondewoe Is Going 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It\'s offical the Mondewoe is going. But what do I have instead? It has to be Japanese, I think?, its going to be second hand and cost less that £4K, so what do I go for? It must be large enough for the family holiday with 3 boys, the oldest being 13 (soon) and the youngest 9 (soon). -
am i insane? 5 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I have an 80 mile round trip, 4 days per week, plus social stuff, to give context. Recently, I have been finding myself increasingly lusting after Porsche 911's, particularly a silver 964-shape Carrera 2 (be about a 1994). Having looked around, I find I can get one for about £20k, surprisingly do-able. Am I insane to consider one of these as daily transport? -
Lumpy, rusting Micra 22 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Recently bought a '97 Micra 1.0 manual which my parents have had since new, UK supplied. Surprised by very poor rust protection underneath - I've ended... -
Faulty windscreen washers - Ford Focus 17 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I can still hear the pump working as normal, but it takes about 5 seconds for any water to appear, and even then the jet is much weaker than it was previously. The rear screen washer jet, which takes it\'s water from the same resevoir, appears to work as normal. I mentioned this to a Ford technician and he suggested it might be due to screenwash gunking up the resevoir. His solution was to stick a hosepipe into the resevoir, however he can\'t have been overly familiar with Focus design since the neck of the resevoir has a 90 degree turn which is too narrow to fit a hosepipe down! -
Golf Mk4 - Rear Washer Problem 28 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Looking for some help on my wife\'s car. Have a \'99 Golf MK4 which recently developed problems with the boot lock - namely wouldn\'t open either with the key or central locking. Shortly afterwards the rear washer stopped working. After looking around this website I\'m inclined to think the washer tube has become detached and has been pouring water onto the lock so causing the problems. -
No new Mid-Sized Rover next year ! 13 Jan 2004 (Forum)
According to my sources, there was absolutely no activity on that front at Longbridge - even the robots had yet to be ordered (that is, by late December 2003), and following the abandonment of the idea of using some of the Rover 75's facility (subframe "stuff-ups", for example), it would seem that a hefty investment remains to be made." "Accepted wisdom is that MGR now need to tie-up with its as-yet unnamed Chinese partner (Kevin Howe hinted this would be imminent) before the RD/X60 takes its next step towards production. -
Do the old Skoda jokes still apply? 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
In the first year the sun roof and the front screen leaked then the gearbox packed up at 19.000m then the top n/s front suspension had to have repairs done, and to top it all a piston decided to go sideways instead of up/down at just under 24.000m and apart from fixing the leaks and giving £200 towards the cost of the £700 gearbox they told my friend to go whistle Good car!! -
Dividing dog guard 29 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Back in the 1970's when my parents bought their first estate car, you could get a "dogmaster divider" which split the load area lengthways - half for your pet, half for luggage. They didn't get one however- just a full-width dog guard. -
Low annual mileage cambelt changes 17 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Car is garaged at night, so no frost damage or excessive condensation to worry about. What is/are the time-related factor(s) to consider? Any thoughts? -
Filling with oil 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
This warning in repeated in the owners manual. I have been working on cars, both personally and 'professionally' since the early 1970's and have never come across this before. Why shouldn't the oil be filled with the dipstck removed? It is just and ordinary dipstick and pokes down into the sump in the normal way. Can anyone suggest an explanation - its important enough for them to fit a warning sticker about it? -
New car? 6 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I know there are other, less flashy alternatives, but i\'m led to beleive that the beemer is the \"driver\'s car\" choice, which is what i\'m after as opposed to out-and-out luxury. So gentlemen (and ladies), your thoughts please? Particularly: 1) performance/handling 2) running costs 3) reliability (remembering for the sort of money i want to spend (3-4k, it\'ll be the wrong side of 100k miles) 4) will people really think i\'m a pink fluffy dice ? -
FAO Fitz & Bighammerman - VIRUS WARNING 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
You keep sending me emails with the virus attached!! I have tried replying to you by email, but all I get is "The user(s) account is temporarily over quota." from your service provider, NTL. Not only is this an inconvenience, as the files you keep sending me are over 350kb in size; but more importantly you are posing a risk to my pc by also infecting mine. -
Stupidity 24 Sep 2003 (Forum)
It doesn\'t sound that bad apart from the fact that there were three small children in the back of the car that weren\'t strapped in. If you\'ve ever seen a small child lying in a pool of blood by the side of the road it\'s something that you will never want to see again. I just can\'t believe the stupidity of the person driving. We are constantly bombarded with messages about using seat belts, using them in the back and as parents about the use of proper car seats. -
Alfa 156 AirCon! 1 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My Father has a Primara and my Wife a Citroen Xsara and both cool the air much quicker compared to mine. I did telephone the dealer and they hinted that all the 156's were like that. Its a company car and I wondered if other 156 drivers have been pleased with the aircon or have experenced the same as me? My car is black which does not help so the air con has more work to do. -
Minis everywhere 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Just a short note, I happen to live in West Oxfordshire and over the past few weeks signs have been appearing for the 'mini in the Park' day, well last sunday was the day and lo and behold there were Minis everywhere. From a Austin Cooper S to the latest offering from BMW, rally prepped versions to fully customised, all in mint condition. A sight to behold.....20 or 30 in a row on the small country lanes around where I live. Brought back memories of learning to drive in a Mini (WHW 474T where are you?). -
Clocking 11 Aug 2003 (Forum)
A second-hand car was bought from a Car Dealer who said he had done a HPI check. The car was bought as it was low mileage but I suspected otherwise: but the MOT\'s showed a low mileage. I have now traced a point, prior to the first MOT when there was a very high mileage noted, but VMC will not disclose where this info comes from. They use Data Protection as a reason not to disclose to anyone other than the Motor Trade. -
\'Tar\' on paintwork 11 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Just been giving my white Xantia a bath and on the whole, it\'s come up quite well. the nearside wing and some of the door panels are a bit dull, so I was going to use T Cut on those, However, I hve noticed small specs of what looks to be tar on the painwork below the outside rubber trim.
