Preview: Barons classic car auction, Esher, 25 February 4 Feb 2014 (News)
Restorations are always popular, and Barons has a few of those to choose from. A 1953 Bentley R-Type, which runs and drives, looks to be mid-restoration, having already received engine work, new brakes, clutch, exhaust and tyres. Barons has it pegged at £10,000-12,000, which potentially looks good value for someone who wants to finish this one themselves. -

Nick Goldthorp, Managing Director of CMC, said: 'The restoration business in the UK as a whole is worth over £4.5bn to the UK’s economy; it employs some 28,000 people and is no longer a business that is solely run by a bunch of enthusiasts working out of lock up garages. We are still enthusiasts but have had to adopt modern business practises and attitudes to succeed in this very demanding industry. Vauxhall's birthday celebrations at the NEC Classic 12 Nov 2013 (News)
Fifty years ago, Vauxhall started producing cars at its Ellesmere Port factory in Merseyside, and in 2013 the plant is still going strong, with its future secured into the next decade. Book-ending this remarkable production run are two cars: a 1963 Viva HA and a 2013 Astra. The Viva was a huge success, continuing for nearly 20 years in various iterations. Also on show will be the VX4/90 812 FNM, which starred (briefly) at the 2013 Goodwood Revival. -
Report: Peking to Paris, day 12 and 13 10 Jun 2013 (News)
In the Classics division, Gerry Crown and his Leyland P76 shows no sign of letting up, ending the day just over two minutes ahead of second placed Porsche 911 crew of Peter Lovett and Tim Smith. Peter reports this morning that the car is running supremely well and has no problems – that probably puts him in a minority of one. Car 48, the Kiwi-Morris Oxford, lost its windscreen yesterday, but it’s a day off tomorrow here in Novosibirsk, and finding some flat glass can’t be too much of an issue. -
Preview: Silverstone classic car auction, Northamptonshire, 17 May 22 Apr 2013 (News)
The redesigned bodywork was created to achieve what Paul Saurer considered to be his ideal ‘Hot Merak’ - and it certainly looks suitably beefed-up, with a wide-body style that's easy capable of going toe-to-toe with the contemporary De Tomaso Pantera or Lamborghini Countach. Interestingly, it retains the standard car's original running gear. Silverstone Auctions says this, 'only increases its collectability', but we'd say that it's a shame that the 200bhp V6 under the engine cover won't deliver the performance the wild looks hint at. -

Ital Design Kensington 19 Apr 2013 (News)
When it was unveiled in 1990, it looked developed enough to be put into production, sitting as it did on an XJ12 floorpan, and being powered by Browns Lane running gear. But the project, drawn-up by Giorgetto Giugiaro and his team wasn’t sanctioned by Jaguar, and was considered very much a case of being ‘not invented here’ by the British company.
