  The Jeep Wrangler has also been recalled because its “airbag clockspring may ingest dust” possibly leading to impaired operation in an accident, along with a warning light. SsangYong is recalling 1433 examples of the Tivoli to fix a potential fuel leak, though no fire risk is associated with the problem. The rest of the recalls affect limited numbers of vehicles – 28 Porsche 911s need brake inspections, while 49 Smart ForTwos may roll away when unattended because of an auto transmission problem.

  That’s the same material that BMW uses in the i3 and i8 electric cars, but while in those it’s primary purpose is bumping up fuel efficiency, in the Hyundai it’s to improve handling. The RM16 also uses electronic trickery extensively to improve cornering, engine responsiveness and basic excitement, including an electronic supercharger, an electronic differential to assist grip during high-speed turning, an electronically controlled exhaust system for louder noises, and an automatically adjustable spoiler to improve aerodynamics.

  It’s also 200kg lighter on average, which along with engine efficiency improvements means it’ll be altogether better on fuel. Its most distinctive visual feature is the divided C-pillar at the rear, which makes the estate look long and sleek in profile, though with a total cargo capacity of 1630-litres (rear seats down), it’s very nearly as big as the class leading Honda Civic Tourer .

  This box monitors driving behaviour by detecting acceleration, G-forces speed and other factors, and then offers advice on how to improve safety and reduce fuel consumption. The feedback from the system is presented to the driver, the driver’s parents and the insurer, and if a dangerous habit is identified then it can be rectified by the driver.
