  • Peugeot 306 1.4 - Red STOP light 31 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi all Driving along today the big red STOP light came on my 306. I checked the oil and coolant levels, checked it wasn't overheating, and the car seemed completely fine when driving but light wouldn't go off. Later in the journey it did go off itself but came back on again. Car still drives perfectly.

  • Ford Escort Petrol 1992 - Headgasket fear 3 Aug 2010 (Forum)
A friend has an Escort 1992. I suspect a headgasket fault as the coolant is oily in colour! I cannot understand however why the first plug in cylinder 1 is very oily, where it has oily deposits! The others do not have this however! Cylinder 1 has a low compression. The engine is 1.6 litre if this information helps.

  • Overheating Mondeo V6 20 Apr 2007 (Forum)
My mondy is having a bit of a problem keeping it's cool! Called the AA out last night and we have no coolant circulation. With the thermonstat removed it still got too hot so it seems to point to the water pump not doing it's job. Can anybody reccommend a garage in Southampton? I'm hoping that it can be done for around £200ish else it's starting to become uneconomical.
  • 1996 Audi A6 heater problem 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
. & an independant Audi Leicester based garage to help re the above. After some recent work including all belts being changed, coolant change and dashboard heater display bulb replacement ,my car heater only blows warm air /cold irrespective of the setting . My local garage (non-specialist) is baffled! Thanks Ray
  • Vauxhall Astra 1.8 sport. Temp gauge 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I noticed after starting the engine after a rest of at least 90 minutes that there was flow to the top of the coolant bottle. I take this to mean that the thermostat is stuck open. Does anyone agree/disagree? Cheers.
  • Mondeo leaking stat housing? 3 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have just noticed a slight "weep" coming from the stat housing ie; the cover of my 2001 Mondeo tddi. It is as tho the cover is slightly corroded ..letting a small amount of coolant escape. The cover seems to be plastic (tho I could be wrong)...my question is can I buy a housing as a seperate item, if not is there any type of sealant/filler to use on the leaking section? Thanks in advance!
  • Rover 214 heater problem 7 Mar 2006 (Forum)
CAR: 1998 ROVER 214 The heater matrix has been replaced & now it won't get hot. The vehicle has been raised whilst filling, and the heater was filled with coolant prior to fitting to try & prevent air locks. Any hints? (PS, it is one of my customers who is doing the job & I'm getting the blame because I supplied the part, any hints would be greatly appreciated!!)
  • No heating Pug 306 1.9 TD 16 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have a T reg 306 diesel and it is blowing cold air. I have changed the thermostat and also checked coolant levels which are fine. There is heat in the piping and having checked the air bleeding valve there is hot water which means the heater matrix is working and i can't think what else it could be. Any ideas would be most welcome as it is quite cold outside!!
  • Jag xjs cooling fan 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Temp gauge is ok and reads just below the N mark, and there's no water anywhere. Could it simply be low in coolant, or could there be a more sinister reason? -- Jaguar XJS V12 - comes with free personalised oil tanker.
  • Fiesta Water Leak 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
when I park my ford fiesta (mk3 1.6 h reg) overnight in my garage in the morning a find a small puddle of water underneath the car and am finding trouble locating where it is coming from. The puddle is under the timing belt casing area of the car but there are no hose leaks and coolant loss seems nil or at least minimal. Any ideas of where this is coming from much appriciated. Steveo

  • Megane heater matrix 18 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Looks like my heater matrix has sprung a leak since I've changed the coolant, maybe my efforts to purge an airlock damaged it, or the crud inside it has unblocked a leak. Looking at the Haynes manual I am cross-referenced to virtually every chapter where it seems I have to take the whole insides of the car apart to get the thing out.
  • 306 fluid change - worth the bother? 7 May 2004 (Forum)
I need to change the oil, coolant and brake fluid in my 150k 306 diesel which I bought six months ago. After I've bought all the fluids and spent hours reading my haynes manual to find bleed valves and things, is it worth it? How big a job is it and how much time/labour would it take a garage to do it?
  • Repair -How much would you expect to pay 24 Oct 2003 (Forum)
It\'s gone to the mechanics with starting problems. They have diagnosed problems with the inlet manifold gasket (which was letting in coolant as well as air), coil and HT leads. My question is how much would you say is a fair price for these repairs. My mechanics have quoted £225 - is that a fair figure?
  • Overseas dealers 21 May 2003 (Forum)
With reference to my post about my coolant pipe Aprilia said about trying to source it from overseas as I may be able to source it fairly quickly. Does anyone know any Mercedes dealers in mainland europe that speak english or spanish. I am fairly fluent in spanish and can just about manage english.
  • De-icing techniques. 1 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I assume that the tiny amount of heat from the heater will be more useful than the advantage of having the heater matrix off to ecourage the coolant to heat quicker. What does eveeryone else do? Heatter on or off? -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads.
