Mitsubishi GDI Carbon build-up 15 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I have always used 98 Oct petrol as well. Despite this I have started to notice all the signs of carbon build up within the engine.(rough running, poor starting, occasional tappet noise at low revs) A quick look at mitsubushi forums shows that almost everyone with a GDI engine (some volvo's too)has the smae problem, yet Mitsubishi only advise a strip down and clean up at approx £600, or replacement throttle body at much the same price. -

Family Estate - Used estate for 2-3k 16 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a family estate for between 2-3k, ideally something that will last me a year or two! I only do about 8-10k miles a year, which are mainly local (school runs, shopping and work). I assume due to the annual mileage, I'd be better with a petrol (please correct me if I'm wrong). The big question is what car?! Having done some research, I narrowed it down the following (although I'm open to suggestions): VW Passat Skoda Octavia Mazda 6 Toyota Avensis Honda Accord (although I think my budget would be tight)? -
Ford Focus 1.8tdci 03 - Ford Focus 1.8tdci engine blown after work done 31 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hi forum my first post, ok so I bought a focus 1.8tdci and had work done flywheel & clutch and full service and new cam belt kit, after driving the the car for approximately 5 miles while the car was stationary with the engine running, I quickly ran into shop for some ciggrettes leaving a friend in the car, the engine stalled by itself with a clink sound, now after towing the car back to the garage I had the work done the mechanics telling me the fuel pump seized leading to the new cam belt to snap. -
Buying a small van from auction again 14 Mar 2014 (Forum)
And yet again it was a fantastic buy, got well over 120,000 miles out of her with hardly any complaints, just wish I had the same luck finding a wife with the same attributes. Even though mine is still running really well it is looking a bit battered now so time to let her go )-: I am looking for something about 2 or 3 years old and roughly the same size as the combo, but I am half thinking about going up just slightly bigger, maybe one of those ford connects. -
BMW 320d m-sport (e46) 2003 - BMW front discs replacement 26 Feb 2014 (Forum)
As the car has only done 60,000 (I have all the service invoices and MOT's to prove) I want to keep the car, but after the current set being fitted today, I only have a month before the overall guarantee runs out 29th March 2014. My mileage is well under 10,000 p.a.,so I am not getting many miles per set of front discs. Do I have to bite the bullet and go to BMW next time. Thanks Stephen -
Small Automatic with 5 or 6 gears? 21 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I am looking for a small automatic car, petrol, for my mother. For the past few years she has had a Clio Auto (08 plate) and has found the running costs high given that the Auto box is only 4 speed. I am looking for a similar sized car, again auto, with a 5 or 6 speed box but it appears that the general theme for cars of this size are 4 speed autos. -
Any - Xenon headlights 8 Feb 2014 (Forum)
We just bought a old model run out Qashqai and it comes with Xenon headlights. Due to the A12 being closed off the other night I found myself on the narrow windy B1022 in the wifes Qashqai. Dark as a very dark thing it was, rain etc. -
Citroen / Peugeot - DPF Issues 3 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I have had 2 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso's (2008 and 2009) and now have Peugeit 5008 (2013) all diesels and all driven around town most of the time with very few long runs. This appears to be exactly what the advice is not to do but I have had no issues at all. In fact I have only just been made aware that diesel cars have been fitted with DPF's. The reason I've gone for diesels when I only cover 7K mile per annum is because I need a decent sized car for the family and the diesel with lower emmisions keeps the income tax I pay on my company cars manageable. -
Mazda 6 - Biodiesel Question 25 Dec 2013 (Forum)
(Obvious answer but needs to be asked) For the finale: Could putting a higher content of biodiesel in your car than the manufacturer recommends cause the car to run-away on its own? Many thanks in advance. -
Vauxhall 2.2 SRI ON A 53 PLATE - STARTING ISSUES 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The strange part of this problem is, It does eventually start ( after anything from 10 mins to a hour of trying, depending on the weather) and if the car has been run for a while or been heated enough by the sun the problem goes away untill the car has been left standing for a while or over night and cooled down again. I've been browsing forums looking for a similar problem but have yet to find one so have decided to join one and ask. -

SEAT Toledo - Leaky rear doors on nearly new car 23 Oct 2013 (Forum)
The SEAT dealer, under warranty, have offered to "unblock" the drainage, which I suspect may mean bending the seal a little so that it isn't sitting over the drainage holes. However, no one seems concerned that this amount of water is running through the inside of the door in the first place (after half an hour of heavy rain, I can get about a pint out of the bottom of the door). Is it correct that this amount of water should be travelling through the inside of the door? -
Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 96 1.9 Heavy steering. Can it be made lighter? 6 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi There! I run an old diesel 405 - in fact, I'm now on my fourth. I like the uncomplicated layout and ease of maintenance of these old oil-burners. However, my only niggle is that the steering is very heavy - even with PS. -
Longest Lasting Volume Cars by Brand 24 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Whilst going around the country I see (and drive) quite a lot of cars. One thing that intrigues me is the number of older vehicles on the road which are still running. [My criterion for defining an older vehicle is that it would predate the introduction of the new registration number format in 2001]. Looking around the brand that I seem to see the most is Peugeot, not the first that I would have thought of given the reputation of Frence cars generally, but there seems to be a disproportionate number of N/P/R and later registrations about. -

BMW E91 325i Touring - BMW stick or twist 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
So far it has had 6 new coils, 6 new injectors, several software updates and at the last visit a new catalyst (which I suspect was knackered by the misfiring though BMW thought this may be the cause). Warranty runs out at the end of the year and both SWMBO and I just starting to lose faith somewhat. Time for a change or would you hang on and extend the warranty again??? Opinions gratefully recieved. -
Ford Focus Estate - tyre age/general degradation 4 Jul 2013 (Forum)
got a slow puncture, but tyre company would not repair-and only replace with new-on the basis that 'no car should run with a tyre over ten years old as the inner wall will have worn and could be dangerous. It then got a bit vague as to whether this was a legal/mot requirement or just 'recommendation' /their company policy To be fair-makes sense and can see where they are coming from;and i am not one to compromise on tyres so went along with it First time i have encountered it though (don't usually have a 13 year old car ) and am simply curious as to whether that is actual fact/ law or remains just a recomendation/good sense. -
Skoda Fabia - Advice please. Used family car, estate or MPV, £3k 14 May 2013 (Forum)
It would be nice to have three in the back comfortably - we need the estate boot, or maybe a bigger car with configurable seats to allow at least similar space to the fabia - it doesn't have to look good, or be particularly nice to drive so long as its cheap to run. I was thinking diesel. Maybe a Japanese car for reliability? Or do we say sod it and pay for the skoda repair? - budget of around £3000, with mileage probably around 60000 I guess. Any advice or pointers very much appreciated.
