  • Volkswagen Golf GTI - Rough idle 22 Apr 2013 (Forum)
After reading many other Forums and several hundred pounds later, I have so far: replaced the coil, HT leads, spark plugs, distributor unit +cap+ rotor arm, fuel pressure regulator, blue chip sensor, knock sensor, checked all vaccuum pipes for leaks - one was replaced, tried 2 new ISV (made no difference, with the original being better than the new ones), cleaned out and re-set the (original) ISV, cleaned out the throttle body, 'spaceship', rocker cover vent grill, and air flow meter; checked that the micro switches 'click', had a diagnostic timing/mixture/tickover set up, had a compression test and pressure test (the latter found cylinders slightly down on perfect but car is 24yrs old!). Also had a new exhaust manifold fitted as the old one was blowing severly. No problem starting, cold or hot. No accelleration problems. The car now does not cut out but most of the time the idle drops to around 500rpm then picks back up.
  • Ford Mondeo - Any other large petrol car suggestions 24 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Budget will be 10K max, ideally a bit less. Looking at another 3 year old car to dodge the worst of the depreciation. A Mk4 Mondeo is the first candidate. Anything else I should look at? Requirements - big boot (got to be hatchback or estate) at or near Mondeo size.

  • Should Audi fully cover the replacement of the ABS pump in my A3? 7 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)

  • Ford Kuga (2008 - ) - Day out with a Kuga 24 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I had one of my regular days out in Germany yesterday. I usually a book the cheapest hire car in can find that isn't group A = Small Economy. Earlier this year I got a BMW 118d and yesterday I got a 3 week old Kuga. Not easy to work much out in 8 hours and with the handbook in German but it was avery pleasant drive.
  • Chrysler PT Cruiser (2000 - ) - Ambivalence over possible car change 7 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I will like it of course, as I like virtually all contraptions with wheels and an internal combustion engine. But I'm worrying. And I don't want to chuck the poor old Escort away like a worn-out glove. It's done me incredibly well considering.
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 1997 1.1 - Limp Home Mode? 23 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi There, I have a 97 1.1 Saxo (HDZ) - I bought it for my partner when it was a year old and it has been a great little car. Recent separation meant it coming back to me! Recently I noticed an oil leak coming from the rocker cover seal so with funds a little low (divorce is very expensive!)
  • `Tupped` by French behemoth in city street 23 Aug 2008 (Forum)
(Its so bad that I get a ticket from the machine and hold it up to the camera even though I`m just waiting in the car for my wife for a few minutes.) Anyway, my wife returned and off we went, but I would have put a ticket on her car under the wiper if said, Stasi foot patrol had arrived. The other thought was, people are far more important than cars.
  • Most influence on your spannering? 25 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Or did parents, uncles or friends help you on your way? I ask because one of my son's mates has had an old Mini bought for him and he wants to wire in an array of spotlights. Without too much bother, I have rootled out a paperback copy of an undated Mini manual 1959 on by J H Haynes with foreword by the legendary Paddy Hopkirk, and a copy of AA Car Care from 1992 with some splendidly simple diagrams in it.
  • Rover 420 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
It seems to have been fitted about a year ago. However, whatever ever the contents of that box would be, they had all rusted away. The car revved and ran more freely than it did before it blew, and still seems to do so even with a new box back on. The car doesn't misfire, and whilst I know that a misfire isn't always obvious, I'm pretty sure its not.

  • Best way to insure 2nd car 13 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi I bought yesterday a second car and wonder what the best way is to insure it. My 1st car is an old Escort, I got it insured Third PFT with 4 years NCD. The insurance renewal date is October. My fiancee has been always named as an additional driver, and I would like to keep this car so that she can still use it.
  • Dynamic indicators 17 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Why are so many new cars appearing with the Audi style dynamic indicators. Even lorries are fitted with them now. When these first appeared, they were something different and unique to Audi. Now they are on everything and to be honest are becoming a bit boring.
