  More Chances at Auction Today 24 Sep 2004 (News)
  Someone bought the 2001/51 facelift BMW 330dSE Touring auto in the photo for just £5,450. True it has been damaged and repaired, the autobox was playing up and, since it had been a police car, only a fool would attempt to clock it. But there’s never been a cheaper facelift 330dSE Touring auto. Big South Korean cars never had blue chip residuals, so I thought an 80k mile 2001/51 KIA Magentis would struggle to reach £3k, yet this one ran to £3,400, so only lost £10k over 80k miles.

  Heavy Metal at Blackbushe Today 6 Sep 2004 (News)
  We’ll forget the lottery winner’s Peugeot 106 Independence, possibly part-exchanged for a Boxster S, and concentrate on the 10k mile 11 month old M3 CSL SMG, a car which listed at more than £55k when new and, as far as I can remember, you had to be a licensed racing driver to get the speed limiter removed. Anyway, it didn’t sell, attracting a top bid of just £40,000, so if you’re after one you better check with BCA if it’s coming past the block again.

  Sharp buys to my eyes included a 137k mile 99V Xsara 2.0HDI 90 estate for £1,725; an ultra reliable 57k mile 99T Nissan QX 2.0 V6 SEL for £3,575; a 102k mile 2000V Mercedes E200 Elegance estate for £6,750; a 68k unwarranted 99T BMW Z3M roadster with a hardtop for £13,400 and, in the 72 car BMW section, a 69k mile 2001Y 320dSE Touring for £10,750 and a 46k mile 2000W 523iSE Touring for just £9,250. Amazingly, in the Alphabet section, no less than six old-shape Mercedes CLK convertibles came through bumper to bumper.

  New Mondeos at Auction Today 14 Sep 2001 (News)
  As predicted, the unloading of 'X' and 'Y' reg ex-rental cars has begun, but in a very controlled manner to try and keep prices as high as possible. The 2001X, 12,617 mile Mondeo 2.0iLX in the photo bid to £9,900 provisional, which is roughly where the first 9 month old batch of Mk I Mondeos were when Ford released them back in late 1993.

  But as usual, the club stands provided the hidden gems. Being in Germany means Techno-Classica is a great opportunity to see cars that you just don't normally encounter in the UK. Although it probably won't be trumpeted by too many people, the strong Youngtimer movement for classics between 10-30 years old, was responsible for some quite extraordinary cars.

  Delighting spectators with his new 'Grand Am' Riley TD at the last meeting was Salisbury's Nigel Mustill, the rare in the UK 6.2 litre machine making another appearance this time. Similarly engined, but a totally different kind of car, is the TVR Tuscan of Perry Waddams, which is wiping up in class D for more production based cars. Sunday's entertainment includes two rounds of the Vortex Dunlop Fiesta championship, won last year by Yatton Keynell's Jason Cooper, also the 2009 Castle Combe Saloon Car champion.

  This pattern is entirely consistent with this time of year as trade buyers ease back in advance of the Christmas break, as BCA Communications Director Tony Gannon explained. "Retail used car business levels tend to be slower at this time of the year and the reality is that not many motorists find a replacement used car in their pile of presents on Christmas morning. Consumers prefer to get Christmas out of the way and look for a car in January, perhaps with a pay review or bonus under their belt."

  Techno Classica 2015: Blue Train Bentley celebrates 85th birthday 20 Apr 2015 (News)
  The Speed Six evolved in 1929 as a racing version of the 6½ Litre, introduced in 1926. The first car raced as No 1 at Le Mans in 1929 where it won, and returned as ‘Old No 1’ to win again in 1930. A total of 182 Speed Sixes were built between 1929 – 1930 with a variety of body styles and types from several coachbuilders.

  This very pretty sportscar sharing looks with contemporary FIAT Spiders was based on the British Austin Healey Sprite and MG Midget. One of only 2,000 built, first with 948cc A-Series engines and latterly with 1,098cc the car was impoeted from Rome in 2015 and is MoTd to February 2017. Estimated at £9,000 to £12,000.   This 1935 Alvis Speed 20 Charlesworth spent its early life in East Africa where, as well as being uses as an everyday car, it was raced at the Langa Langa circuit in Kenya before suffering an overheating problem.
