Spanish Speed limits 4 Mar 2011 (Forum)
A quick note for discussion, the Spanish government have announced that from March 7th the national speed limit on motorways will be reduced from 120 kph to 110 kph, this action is to reduce fuel consumption due to the current problems in Libya (where Spain gets most of its fuel). What concerns me more is that they also intend increasing the percentage of biofuel added to the standard diesel, I wonder what effect that will have on modern engines? -
misfuelling claims another victim 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)
From the BBC website coverage of the over-by-over coverage of the ODI series: BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew on Twitter: "Put wrong fuel in car - petrol into diesel. Broken down on M1. In tow truck heading north. No chance of getting to The Oval" That will be pricey... but shows how it can happen to anyone. We bought a fuel angel, so won't happen to us. -

Ford Focus Estate - Ford Focus Mk1 - Petrol or Diesel? 27 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Hi all, seeking advice. I am looking to buy a 200-2001 Ford Focus Estate to replace a recently dead Renault 19 diesel. I like the fuel economy of the Focus diesels (hj's real mpg suggests 36mpg petrol vs 48mpg diesel) but I'm worried about the horror stories of older diesels failing expensively (the DMF problem). -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 99 2.00 Fuel Promblem 6 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Hi new on so here go's I have a Peugeot 406 diesel Est. it was running fine up until 4 weeks ago then it started to cut out when i put my foot down a little on the motoway, i pull over sat for 5 mins then it started again, it slowly got worse over 3 weeks, then one day on my way home from work it just stopped all together, also when it cut a light came on the one for the fuel injection one, so i was told it could be the relay for the glow plugs, i change that, then i put new glow plugs in it, i changed the fuel filter and it still wont start, i,ve now been told it could be the fuel pump in the fuel tank. -

Need something v.cheap, powerful and economical! 7 May 2009 (Forum)
With 150bhp and weighing only 1150kg its not as quick as modern hot hatches but its no slow coach! Im a final year uni student a bit of a petrol head and skint. The golf does ok on fuel seeing as im quite heavy footed but as im really poor at the moment im thinking i should get something diesel until i finish uni and start a real job! My question is, can anyone suggest any diesels that i could get for for £1000 or less that are good on fuel and could be kind of fun to drive. -
Peugeot 106 diesel wont start when cold 3 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Engine idle speed varies when first started and sometimes the engine accelerates on its on when cold. Eventually discovered that priming the fuel system gives much better results when starting. So I'm assuming there is an air leak in the fuel system somewhere. Not sure where to go next as has already cost me about £500 for parts, labour, service and MOT on a car thats worth £1000 tops. -
Diesel engine life 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I have heard of more conventional diesels - pre common rails- doing 3-400k ( peug, citroen and renault laguna) but id be interested to what sort of milage a new style - eg common rail- diesel engine would last for before major engine trouble 2/ Do likes of fuel pump, turbo, injector, head gasket failure usually happen on a diesel engine before main engine wear? -
Fuels and their money - advice from HJ 19 Jan 2016 (Forum)
All new cars are optimised and calibrated for the ECDC economy and CO2 lab tests on the highest grade fuels available, which are usually Shell V-Power Nitro Plus petrol and diesel. Consequently, if you use an inferior fuel, the performance of the engine and its fuel economy and emissions will be inferior Is HJ correct? -
VW Golf Blue Motion - Wrong fuel 23 Jul 2012 (Forum)
My friend, without realising it, inadvertantly put petrol into her diesel car. After 10 miles it was not running properly. She called the RAC. The RAC man came to look at the car and said it was a fuel pump problem and that she should drive it to the VW dealer 12 miles away. -

Has anyone "distress sold" their car? 16 May 2008 (Forum)
As the title suggests, has anyone here sold their car at some ridiculously low price either privately or as a part-ex in a panic to offload it due to rising fuel costs and car tax debacle? Would anyone also admit to failing into the trap of "must have small diesel hatchback at all costs" or such like?. This applies especially if what you save in future fuel costs/road tax has been disproportionately offset by a large cost-to-change on such a vehicle and/or having to buy something older. -
306 D Turbo - Fuel Starvation. 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Now as the car hasnt started when I withdraw the glowplug would I be correct in assuming that I should be able to see diesel on the glowplug, but at the mo they are dry, could this mean that I am not getting fuel through to the combustion chamber? If so any advice? Many thanks Danny
