  • Tomorrow the expanded ULEZ 31 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Tomorrow sees the ULEZ take in much of London inside the M25. The cameras have been installed but 9/10 seem to have been  disabled. Counties surrounding the capital are refusing to have warnings of a ULEZ coming up on their roads. Papers are full of stories on how individuals are being affected and it's mostly the poorer ones who can't afford a newer car or pay the charge, all so Kahn can raise a few million bob.

  • Car Recommendation 22 May 2018 (Forum)
I want it to be slightly luxurious, no bigger than medium sized, ideally an automatic (but no biggie), petrol, and more importantly have all the extra such as pano roof, heated seats and sensors or reverse camera. Honestjohn recommended a Kia Venga/ Hyundai IX20 but are there anymore recommendations? Something more luxury feel?
  • DVLA Roadside Equipment 5 Apr 2016 (Forum)
There were no police, or vehicles, beyond, ready to stop anybody.  This was not like the usual speed cameras poking out of a hole in a back window of a van parked in a stupid place, or out of a sliding side door. Anybody got any idea what they were up to?
  • Untaxed vehicles 16 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I had thought that with Anpr cameras and Sorn requirements that the days of untaxed vehicles was over. It seems to be a regular thing now to see an out of date tax disc. I don't know if a report to the DVLA has any effect. I did pass details of 1 vehicle on to local police, the reply I received was to say that nothing could be done until the date had passed 2 months and 1 day.
  • Penalty Charge Notice 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I received a PCN from Brent Council dated seven days later with a photograph of my car (presumably from one of those mobile cameras) and a demand for £130 (£65 if paid within 21 days). This was on a busy road with nowhere to stop. Is it worth pursuing this fine or should I "pay up and look happy"?
  • Volvo V70 - Speed Awareness Courses 17 Jan 2013 (Forum)
My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of the month. My wife was caught speeding by a camera and took up the offer of a speed awareness course (which she said was well worthwhile). I spoke to the enforcement office of the police (PSNI) and they are adamant that this is not a conviction and should not be declared to the insurance company.
  • different dates on NIP and photo evidence 16 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I received a NIP today stating that I was speeding on the 19/03/2012 at 03:28. I have viewed the photograph online and the camera states 20/03/2012 at 03:28. I have no defence on the 20th as I was on the road at the time stated and in the area but on the 19th  I was in bed and the car parked miles away from the offence.

  • motoring in france 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
i.m going to france in 10 days time via dover/dunkirk. been looking at the regulations over there and noticed radar / speed camera detectors are strictly forbidden. not in the habit of exceeding speed limits but have disabled the warnings on my tom tom. i was wondering what is to stop some bolshie cop from assuming my sat nav is warning active and fining me anyway?
  • New DVLA Inititaive of just new to me? 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Walking home from the shops today I saw a DVLA liveried van driving thru the estate, together with signage on how to report an untaxed car. It was a Transit with a big roof-rack on it and what was clearly an ANPR camera mounted at each corner, at 45 degs to the fore-aft axis of the van. I hadn't seen one before. Are they new or have I just missed them?
  • Red Letter Day at MIRA 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi All, I've got a drive of a Ferrari at MIRA soon (Birthday present from the wife) and the accompanying letter says that for security reasons no photographs are allowed and all phones, camera's etc must be left in the car. A colleague at work reckons that's a bit of a scam so they can sell their own photo's! To be honest I can understand there being an issue with photographs at MIRA but has anyone got any experience of this and advice please?
  • 50 speed limit past the Belfry (A446) 13 Jan 2009 (Forum)
For those who use the road noticed a 50 sign this morning, swear it was not there yesterday. There is a camera there as well - you can bet they have changed the speed it is set at. Now why would they do that, at rush hour (or so) you cannot do 40, in the evenings it is dead, in summer the bikers use the A38 going the other way.
  • ANPR at filling station 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Maybe I've been unobservant in the past and this is usual practice, but on the pump at my local supermarket yesterday there was a sign saying that my number plate was being scannned by an ANPR camera. Is that usual? What if my number plate was illegal (it isn't!)? Who gets the info? Who acts upon it? Do they keep the info? Or if I am legal and I pay for my fuel do they delete the info? Is it legal for Tescoburys to record my plate like this?
  • Road Deaths Up 9 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Tucked away at the end of an article in today's Times about how the Driving Test is to have more emphasis on saving fuel/reducing emissions is the little nugget that road deaths have gobe up 33 in the last year. Nice to see those 'safety cameras' are doing their job so well! Unless of course you consider their job to be to tax motorists, in which case they are doing their job very well. (Just missed 20,000th topic! :-(
  • Oh yes there are! 18 Dec 2006 (Forum)
In fact Eastbourne is trying tocharge motorists L R @ centre by having parking meters at places of natural outstanding beauty ...like the top of Butt's Lane on the Downs and the Beachy Head area etc. Add to that the prolific speed cameras and the 20p charge for a gent's public loo on the seafront and Eastbourne shows its policy of fleece the tourist...shame on the place.
  • French clampings solution 21 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Instead of complaiing to our beloved HJ and their Mps they simply filled the locks on the clamps with superglue, this was not just the victim but people who happened by one with superglue to hand. Clamping is eliminated I hear........what do they do with speed cameras? according to J Clarkson these were invented by a rally driver to gauge cornering speeds of his cars.
  • Car Damaged thanks to Pot-hole 4 Dec 2005 (Forum)
When I arrived home, checking the car over revealed one of the wheels has suffered rim damage but because its an alloy it will need replacement. Since the damage was caused on a public road and I went back out with the camera and took a picture of the damaged road. Would I now have a claim against the roads department or council? Cheers Rob
  • April cheer & the M4 1 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Three lanes are present but for four miles the speed restriction is down to 40mph, backed up by permanent speed cameras. Does anyone know why such a low limit is in place bearing in mind that last year's project involved a 50mph restriction? It was rather galling to run along at 40mph being overtaken by HGVs doing 50+.
  • Mobile phone - Radar Detector 23 Jan 2005 (Forum)
There is a well known software hack on certain brand of mobile phone (inappropriate to go into detail) which will allegedly allow the telephone to alert the bearer of the phone to the imminent presence of radar devices such as speed detection cameras. Has anyone tried this and found it successful? Have tried a couple of forum searches as this has been rumoured / known for some time, I could not locate any previous reference to anything similar.
