  • Ford focus engine warning light 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi everyone, My dad's ford focus was recently serviced by a local mechanic. After the service the engine warning light came on and the car was running badly. He took it back and it turned out one of the spark plugs was cracked. The mechanic also mentioned that he'd "washed the engine" . The car ran fine for a while but now the engine warning light is coming on again.
  • Forgotten how to read ohmeter 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I know how to check resistances using my analogue meter. If anyone has got a moment to give me a quick run down on checking resistances and getting the point in the right place I would be grateful as I have forgotten how to do this. At least you dont have to zero a digital meter. Its just that I dont quite understand what the above numbers mean.
  • Problem Golf 25 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The mechanic at VW said maybe I should drive it harder, but it already using more fuel than I think I should!! Im at a loss and my warranty runs out this March!! Ive even put Fuel Filter, its done under 70,000 miles. Not due for plug until 80k. Maybe it needs another Throttle Body!! Any advise welcome.
  • 306 HDi - sooty exhaust 20 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Other data: oil consumption not measurable between changes; fuel has been up to 60mpg but is falling; starting and running are normal; temp gauge normally just below 80° but went up to 95° in a traffic jam recently. Just had its 36K service, with fuel and air filters, and things have improved (cloud not seen so far), but indie says it's not quite right and he would need the Pug diagnostic to sort what he believes is an electronic problem.

I've had a look on Autotrader but there is only 3 matches, and they are all older. The specs are - R Reg (August 1997) Rover Metro Ascot 1.1 in Aqua Blue (or like that kind of blue!)
  • Help replacing my Mondeo 27 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I've decided to replace my 98 Mondeo ST 24 but have already run into a problem; too many choices! I started looking at Audi (A4 and A6), VW Passat, Volvo, Saab, Mazda MX6, Honda Accord, Nissan Primera... not too keen on BMW's or Jags, just because of the type of person who normally drives them -(;0) I've got about £10k to spend, if I get a good trade in on the Mondeo and also shift the Shogun - I've been looking at Diesels for fuel economy, performance isn't too important although I've always loved the V6 sound -(:0).
  • nissan micra - starting problem 25 Dec 2005 (Forum)
L reg (93/94) 1.3 cg13 engine. no start, have good spark, seems to have too much fuel. new plugs, will fire fuel if removed and placed over plugholes. engine may then start & run ok when hot. next morn cold same thing. Have tried new ect sensor, injction fuse out & spinning over 30 sec, and have read the blink codes in ecu which is 55, (ie clear)! You mentioned a resistor from the main dealer, I queried my local dealer who said it was for 1tr engines only, unless you know different. this started 2 weeks ago (cold & damp) now pulling my hair out and friends who own it being very patient.

  • Recommendation for working vehicle? 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
A 4x4 would help in getting up/ down the steep hill in poor weather but is likely to be more expensive to buy and run than a transit or other car. All comments or suggestions welcome please! A rough estimate on trade in value for the Omega would be very nice too! It's a Nov '94 2.0 litre petrol auto, 115k miles, a fist full of service history and all MOT certificates.
  • Daewoo Matiz interior light stays on 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
The alarm is a standard Daewoo dealer fitted one, and the car has no previous history of problems like this. Which ever way I switch the switch on the interior light the battery is going to run flat. At the moment the car is safely in the garage with the interior light switched off. Any suggestions on what to try next or should I take it to a professional?
  • What have I done? 10 Sep 2005 (Forum)

  • Cheapest insurace without no claims 7 Sep 2005 (Forum)
And secondly which car - At the moment the cars we are thinking of are Fiat Siecento/Cinqucento, Seat Arosa considering we only want to spend up to £1000 - do you suggest would give the lowest insurance, and general running costs. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated - along with any other ideas to reduce the cost of insurance. Many thanks in advance to you all.
  • M40 Junctions 9-10 4 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I think a lot of people are using the M1-A43 (recently upgraded)-M40-A34 as a kind of outer M25, linking the West and the South Coast to East Midlans, Yorkshire and the North East . The danger is that wehn people joing the M40 at 10,going south they don't realise it's a short run to 9, where they are leaving again .There is a dedicated lane to exit at 9, and if you miss it it's very difficult to get into it before the exit ; hence the accidents , from people cutting in. I reckon what could be done, includes better warnings at 10 to keep letf, or even widening to 4 lanes for about 2 miles before 9
  • 2000 Vectra 2.5 V6 CDX Temps/Coolant 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I'm wondering if it gives a warning when there is too much coolant in? Also, are the temps too high or is it normal for the Vectra to run at 95C? Finally, should I be worried about the 'coolant level check' message? Perhaps I shouldn't be driving it at all until I get it checked out?
  • Punto 1995 diesel MOT failure 21 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Car is run for daughter to use during her royal visits from Uni in Summer. Failed MOT as both rear sidelights were u/s. I recalled I had noticed one faulty 4 weeks earlier, and as she dropped me off for holiday had given her £20 and told her to take it to local garage to have bulb renewed.
  • Darwin, again 27 May 2005 (Forum)
I winced as the "responsible teenager" ran out, dragging young girl with her, nearly being collected by a van in the process. They then reached the middle of the road, nearly got run over by a motoribike overtaking down the crown, got cold feet, turned round, and crossed back directly in front of a truck with unladen flatbed that locked all six wheels in the braking process. Last seen stood at the kerb having an argument with each other...
  • Odometer problem 15 May 2005 (Forum)
The only solution is a replacement speedometer. However, it's an 8-year old car which I intend to 'run into the ground', the speed indication and all other instrumentation is fine, so given the cost of a new speedo I propose to ignore it. I can live without an odometer -- it rarely moves much anyway, now that I'm retired, and service intervals are no problem since I never reach the mileage anyway and service by the calendar.
  • Astra 1.4i auto L reg water problem! 13 Apr 2005 (Forum)
The problem is I am sure the hoses are not leaking I have no water puddles under the car or around the engine/bay but yet for no reason I will find the water filler tank empty of water after a few days. The engine runs well and has a slight misfire at idle. I can not trace the misfire as it is not a symmetrical misfire it seems ramdom and I am under the impression that it is coming from the timing side? any ideas Thanks Mike
  • vw passatt misfire 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
hello ,i have a passatt 1.8 20v non turbo 1997 adr engine code mileage 72000. full vag history. i foolishly bought the car at auction and since i bought it about 5 months ago the car has been suffering a loss of power/misfire between 2000 and3000 revs. it doesnt always happen but usually by the time its warm ,it starts to play up although it can be rough when cold. when the car reaches 3000 revs and beyond it runs superb no problem. ive renewed maf meter, fuel filter, plugs and leads airfilter all to no avail .before replacing maf a friend with vag software plugged into the ecu and the reading was "knock sensor exceeded upper limits" he hadnt seen this before and suggested new maf .no joy ,can anybody throw some light on this as i am going crazy as the car is so lovely otherwise cheers steve
