Golf 2000 Misfire on acceleration 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I then went on to think it was a fuel fault so added red-x to the tank and took it out for a 20min run and the problem seem to get worse. Whilst idling its fine but from just reving it causes it to splutter, and worsens under load (actually driving it) Help, Please!! Its our only way of getting to work and pray for an easy solution Thanks for your time Paul & katie -
Fiat Scudo misfire on warmup 10 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I'm having a bit of an issue with the Scudo during warmup. It's a 1.9d ( 1868 ) non turbo The van starts ok from cold, and generally runs fine, but when it's partly warm (gauge below 70) it has a 'misfire' at idle speed. The heater plugs have been changed recently. The cambelt has been changed recently. The sender for the temp gauge went faulty (reading overheating when cold) so I replaced that. -
Daewoo matiz strange putty smell 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Driving it this evening, i noticed a strange odour coming from the heater vents inside the car, which smells just like warm putty. It also smells the same when i lift up the bonnet. Any-body out there have any ideas ? The car runs perfect , and there does not appear to be any water on the dipstick at all, just nice clean oil. This is as strange as my water leak when it rains. I am just hoping any praying that it is not the head gasket.Any advice very welcome. -
Vectra Diesel Starting Problems... 31 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The car started first time as usual, but ran very roughly for about 5 seconds, then cut out. It then took 3 or 4 minutes of turning over to get it to run again - once started it ran very smoothly, no change from the previous two weeks. Starting from warm/hot is also fine. Leave the car for a couple of hours and your right back to square one. During the turning over there's initially a small amount of white smoke from the exhaust, and the engine doesn't fire at all for a good 2 minutes. -
Clio 2002 Starting Problem 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The car attempts to start but doesn't fire up, it can then take upto 20 minutes for it to start, then it seems to run fine till it happens again. This seems to be an intermitant fault. The car has had a Battery check and also checks on the Starter Motor, it also had a full service last week so the spark plugs etc are all fine. -
"Wrong" oil in an emergency? 11 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Any huge risk if I put in some Shell Helix synthetic 10W-40 to top it up instead? Surely not going to knacker the engine is it? (No more so than letting it run dry ;-) ). -
Good car drivers need cams fitted to car 29 Sep 2006 (Forum)
A few weeks ago I was watching one of thsoe 'accident' 'Police Stop Cam Action' progs when they showed footage from cabs and cars which had cams installed to cut down insurance costs and settle cases quickly! The hard drive cams run as you drive saving a certain amount and then delte and restart unless saved. The hard drive cams can have footage saved by a press of a button if a driver has seen bad driving or nearly in an accident. -
406 cooling fans not working bitron unit 27 Sep 2006 (Forum)
i took it to a garage and they said both fans need replacing with a quote of £300 to have the work done so i thought i would look on this forum i found a previous post on the bitrin unit and located it in the car. when i unpluged the brown cable the drivers side fan came on at high speed (only when the ignition is on) but the passenger side didnt on closer inspection the passenger fan is hard to turn so i think it has seised. do you think the reason the drivers fan only came on when i removed the switch is because the bitron unit is faulty. if so would the car run on 1 fan if i replaced the bitron unit? -
Yamaha YZF750F Overheating? 23 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I have an M Reg 1995 Yamaha YZF 750 which has started to overheat recently. On a long run with relatively few stops the problem does not present itself with the temperature indicating around 70 degrees. If however I have to go through town or ride slowly, the temperature increases to around 95 degrees (indicated) before the bike appears to boil all the water from the expansion tank through its overboard drain pipe. -
Toyota Aygo- Diesel or Petrol 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Its a wee bit over my budget but I am hoping it will last me a good 5 /6 years at least. So it will be worth it in the long run - I hope I've been on the internet trying to research on them and I see that Peugot has made the diesel engine in the aygo, and there are special offers on diesel aygo ( 1.4 aygo+) . about £300 cheaper than petrol However the boys I work with have told me bad stories about peugot cars , is this right ? -
Battery boiling - damage caused? 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, a description of my holiday motoring woes will follow in discussion (probably after being run past DD for naming and shaming clearance), but... The voltage regulator failed on my alternator, and was boiling the car battery, venting into the engine bay and (at lower speeds) through the ventilation system for about three or four hours of high speed driving on French autoroutes. -
Pug 405 XUTD Starting Issues 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
There doesn't seem to be air getting into the system as the plunger bulb stays firm even in the morning. Compresion seems to be okay - no lack of power when running. No sign of head gasket problems either. It's not using oil. No big puffs of black smoke when the turbo kicks in. It's driving me mad!!!! The car starts okay with Easy Start, albeit rather smokey. -
My 406 2.1td (again) engine hesitation 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, a 98 on 150,000m. Most of the time the car runs fine. However occassionaly and becoming more frequent it's as though the engine misses a beat and is then ok.It can be just once or continuous for 2-3 seconds, when this is the case,if I ease of the throttle and then accelerate again it clears it. -
Renault Scenic Expression+ 2001 Starting 28 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Here's one for you clever folk out there. 2001 Scenic starts fine from cold however after a good run (say half hour) if i happen to pop into a burger joint or visit a relative the car will NOT start (from hot). It tries god love it but fails dismally. Engine turns over (so dont think its 'starter' fault) but does not get the final kick to start. -
Hot Weather - a Warning 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Sitting up here half an hour ago reading the hottest July thread when Mrs B chimes up from downstairs with her alarm call. Strong smell of petrol round front of house she says, distinctly odd I think, as we run a brace of diesels. Then remember the mower fuel. Check reveal that petrol vapour has "blown" the container splitting the seam, fortunately only extent of a pinhole, but nonetheless shelf is well damped and paint bubbled. -
207 vs. Clio (and G. Punto). 16 Jun 2006 (Forum)
With the reported increases in size I don't think the practicality would be hit too hard. I'd want it to be cheap and easy to run as possible (cheap servicing, best residuals, most reliable). For that matter I'd also possibly consider the FIAT Grande Punto 1.3 M-Jet Dynamic (90). So apply the above to this one too if you have any knowledge... -
Hotrocks 14 May 2006 (Forum)
The rock formations we are targeting are not everywhere in the world but it does give us some options for the future as long as battery technology keeps improving. Project is being run by a company called Geodynamics, check out their site it's all good stuff. My kids think the old man is becoming a tree hugger - Heaven forbid! Cheers Jim -
Skoda Fabia VRS shuddering on idle? 8 May 2006 (Forum)
I'm to two minds whether to report this to the dealer or bear with it till I get some higher miles on it and put it down the car needing to be run in some more? Apart for that it picks up fine and is faultless. Comments appreciated. -
Are old cars greener? And if so . . . 14 Mar 2006 (Forum)
much of a car's "carbon footprint" is created during manufacture" - and hence it could be argued that it is greener to keep an old banger going, even though it belches smoke, than to crush it and make a new one. So - is it really more friendly to the planet to run an old banger and keep it going? And if so, is anything doing anything about it? I ask partly because I understand that some nations (Japan and Singapore are the places I have in mind) have regulations that strongly discourage the driving of older cars, on the grounds (I think) that these old cars are environmentally unfriendly. -
EGR valve - Vauxhall Astra 13 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The AA man said the EGR was stuck open (which he said he had seen loads of) and took it out and cleaned it (it took a few minutes)and said that might do the trick (in the longer term), it is now running fine. Being an elderly woman my MIL is very worried the car will break down again (she also often has her disabled mother in the car). The questions are: what exactly happened to cause the breakdown and should she just get the EGR changed (presumably the labour would be minimal but how much would the part cost)?
