  • Toyota Celica (1991 - 1994) - Incredible engineering 6 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Caught up with an all too rarely seen petrolhead cousin at a family gathering yesterday. He's currently smoking around in a 1991 Celica GT-S Japanese import. All history is fully documented and here are some staggering statistics: 244,000 miles on the clock (he bought it with 195,000) Original engine, gearbox and clutch In his ownership it has been serviced four times and has had the rear suspension rebushed and a pair of CV joints.

  • Mini One - Joke lasts about 5 minutes 28 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Performance decidedly lacklustre and fuel efficiency nothing special and being inside the thing made me feel like I was at a family party where one of the children does a magic trick - initially quite charming, but two minutes in and the grin is becoming a little fixed and after five minutes you're thinking "don't milk it sonny". I was half thinking of buying a Cooper S a couple of years ago and now I'm so glad I didn't.

  • Citroen - C15 Van Bulb question 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hello The C15 I am currently (still) driving has n R2 bulb O/side and H4 N/side, advisory on the MOT last was change O/S bulb as alignment was out (it is, bulb is a tad wobbly inside), I duly bought a new R2, which lasted 5 minutes (probably/maybe bad handling on my part). To get to the nitty gritty. This is a bulb question, the H4 fitted is the same 'fitment' as the R2, but looks a very different bulb but fits the same headlamp hole, can I just buy any H4 (any bulb from any company), or do I have to specify which vehicle?
  • Portsmouth scientists reinvent the wheel 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Scientists at the University of Portsmouth, UK, have developed an A rtificial I ntelligence system to build the world?s first thinking car wheel. The steering wheels use microcomputers which perform 4,000 calculations per second and communicate with each other. Then the wheels use AI to learn as the car is being driven, making calculations and adjustments according to travelling speed and road conditions.
  • Citroen Xsara HDI heater fan fault 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
By adjusting the various dials and noting their actions, I have come to the conclusion that apart from the fan losing speed control, the overall system is working correctly. There are more than two chassis and power connections to the fan and I?m guessing the fan has it?s own built-in speed regulator and that it might be faulty. Does anyone know anything more? The fan is a Valeo unit.
  • Volvo S40 16v 2.0 - Spark plug thread? 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have a S reg Volvo S40 16valve 2.0 litre, coming back on the M25 yesterday a spark plug went, sounded like a chinook helicopter in my bonnet! Had the RAC out & the thread has gone, they tried to put a new spark plug in but it just spun around...they advised me to get a new thread cut or a helicoil fitted...I've spent the entire day phoning around & no-one seems to do this....the couple of mechanics that will do it can't for the best part of a week but I need it done asap...one of them suggested to get a kit myself & do it...no idea how easy this would be.

  • twin motors wipers. Any feedback? 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The Bosch system is already being fitted to the new Ford Galaxy, the Citroen C6 and the recently launched Mercedes-Benz S-Class." More info at http://www.bosch.co.uk/content/language2/html/3492_4530.htm Any feedback from users? it seems a good idea but I hope the the electronic controls are " robust" Having experienced a mechanical linkage failure ( in a thunderstorm) , a wiper arm fall off onto the bonnet, the motor burn out and finally smoke belch from the dash, the Bosch approach would avoid this risk.
