  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 03 2.0 engine problems 18 Jul 2009 (Forum)
This was despite my wife pulling over quite smartish and me taking the keys out of the ignition and us running away and watching the thing seemingly about to self destruct - having taken the inlet tract apart it is oil impregnated - any ideas. Thanks
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001: Indicator Stalk Won't Self Cancel 18 Jul 2009 (Forum)
My wife's just bought a 2001 Focus Ghia Auto Saloon..lovely car with really low mileage, years MOT and runs perfect. Only problem we've discovered driving it home is that the indicator stalk wont self cancel as the wheel is returned...it has to be switched off by hand. I know its only relatively minor but its very annoying....just wondered if anyone knew if this was a common problem, and can it be easily fixed....is it just the stalk that needs to be replaced or has the steering wheel got to be removed.
  • Dipsticks...true oil level. 14 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I've measured the correct amount of oil in when changing and when serviced by Toyota it's spot on the correct (front) mark too...yes i've turned the stick round before you wags fire up..;) Wonder how many cars are running round with far too much oil in, and what if any damage is likely to follow.
  • Porsche 911 996 C2, C4, Turbo (1997 - 2004) - Second hand Porsche or a new Scirocco ? 8 Jul 2009 (Forum)
The garage also gives a 12 months warranty & 12 month AA Assistance - what is this. I appreciate the costs of running such a beast will be big, but can you advise me what should I also be looking out for when I go to inspect them. Cheers Stu

  • Reliable and sporting for £4k? 27 May 2009 (Forum)
My future DIL needs something better for her 80 mile motorway commute so I am tempted to let her have it cheap...it is a known quantity...she currently runs a tired '96 1.2 Clio. With my budget of £4k any suggestions please? I am getting married next summer when we plan to jointly buy a second hand folding hardtop MX5 as a wedding present to ourselves, but I need a versatile hatch/estate and cannot afford to lose much in depreciation in the next 12 months.
  • Toyota Aygo (2005 - ) - Also applies to C1 & 107 - water pump failure 27 May 2009 (Forum)
If you are running an Aygo/C1/107 check the water pump isn't leaking. Our Aygo (late 2005 build) pump has failed and is now at the dealers waiting for a replacement. There is a back order as the part has been redesigned to prevent further failures - first available date for a new one is 12 May.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 DPF failure 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
m assuming that the DPF is located as part of the exhaust system. Is it possible to fit a non DPF exhaust to the car to get it running again for less than it costs to replace the DPF? Any help would be most appreciated.
  • What is your avg. MPG? 21 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Mine: Toyota T180 41 MPG (official 45.6 MPG) Toyota RAV4 xTR 2.2d 40.2 MPG me 38 MPG mrs (official 42.8 MPG) It has to be your combined average for day to day driving, not your best 1 off run. I don't care that much about MPG but people are kicking up a stink on toyota boards and i've read a lot of reports that say new cars aren't getting anywhere near their official MPG figure. Even though all official MPG figures are calculated on a flat rolling road at an ambient temp of a typical british summers day and the tests don't take into account hills, stopping / starting or various acceleration points i'm now curious to see if any cars get their combined figures or better them.
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 97 1.2 - Turns over but will not start 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
    Any help or suggestions would be welcome - I have read a number of posts but most seem to be a problem with running rough or taking time to start - I cannot even get that far. {removed repeated words in subject header that automatically get included when you make your selection from the compulsory drop down menus and fill in boxes}

  • FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - Problem with Pirelli tyre 1 Apr 2009 (Forum)
We have got a 1.2 G/Punto which has covered about 15,000 miles and both rear tyres although they have plenty of tread left are showing signs that the side walls are collapsing and both front tyres have actually got a lot of wire sticking out through the tread patterns around the entire circumference. The tyre pressures and condition are checked regularly and have never been run flat or deflated. The garage have accepted there appears to be a defect in the manufacture of the tyres, possibly a 'bad batch'. I have never seen this on a tyre with plenty of tread left and I am curious if anyone else has.
  • Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - 1985 1.6 Supermarket Petrol 26 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Yesterday I drove my wife's Golf (which never had a knock sensor and was designed to run on 91 RON petrol) 10 miles to a supermarket with no problems. As the petrol gauge was on empty I put in 10 pounds of 95 RON petrol. Five minutes later I heard a knocking noise coming from under the bonnet only when the engine was under load.
  • Grounded by Parking Fines 18 Mar 2009 (Forum)
So we have reached the stage where an unpaid parking ticket ( and that could be one you are contesting ) would be used to prevent you from leaving the UK under the new border rules. Now I can understand wanting to stop some body suspected of being involved in say a Hit and Run or a fatal RTA where charges have been made. I could even handle it if it was because you faced charges such as driving with no insurance... but Parking Tickets ? How many of our London posters on here haven't felt the need to challenge what they think could be a wrongly issued ticket and yet for that, could be denied a business flight because it stands as an unpaid parking fine.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.6 Stereo Compatibility 18 Mar 2009 (Forum)
So, how can I be sure of compatibility when buying a stereo online? Did the connections alter on 6000/6006 units during the 98-04 model run? I though of using an aftermarket head unit instead (not my preference), but am concerned that I would have the same problem with a harness adapter, as they only offer one version to cover 98-04...
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - Looking to buy a Mazda6 2.3 Sport 1 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I've had a quick look to ascertain the service schedule mainly to determine when the cambelt should has been changed (think its at 54k). Any advice welcome on what to look out for/running cost issues. Cheers Jonathan
  • Changing my car, but which one? 23 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I'm getting expensed, which just about covers the cost of the fuel/oil but I don't think the RX-8 is the kind of car you put 500 miles/week on and run into the ground. It's an 04, done about 30k. I want a more fuel efficient car that I can put the miles on and don't really want to spend more than my trade-in plus a couple of hundred quid. Looked at a BMW 118d or Lexus 220d but I'm not sure they're quite in my price range.
  • 12 volts really 14 volts? - Just a query. 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
When ever I have tested an alternator the output has always read about 14-15v and I remember my dads Lada always used to read 16v (the bulbs were always blowing on it) now either my meter must be well out or cars must run on more than 12v. Why is this? I realise the battery is a 12v DC battery so all the electrics are rated at 12v, so howcome the altnerators always tend to read more? I thought the output was supposed to be heavily regulated unlike the old dynamos.
  • Peugeot Boxer (2000 - 2007) - 2005 2.8 Bitron Relay 46520419 16 Feb 2009 (Forum)
My 2005 Compass Castaway Motorhome based on a peugeot boxer developed a fault on the return trip from France . Although the engine was running fine and the the engine temperature was normal the Gauge was reading red hot ! After investigating in the engine bay and a bit of pushing i noticed a relay that was fitted with the prongs facing upwards and water had corroded the connections .When i tapped the relay the gauge flickered and returned to normal for a while .
