00 2.0 Power Steering failed & now a loud rattling - daniel.bain
Hi

I wonder if anybody could help me please?

My car's engine management light came on about a week ago, but the car was still running as normal, until the other day when the car refused to start, i eventually got the car going but once it had started it was making a loud rattling noise which became even louder also it startid making a loud scraping noise, i went to start my car this miorning and the loud noise was there again but my power steering has now failed, i cant even move the steering wheel, well i can a little bit but its mega mega stiff?

Has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong?

Without lifting the bonnet and taking a look, I'd hazzard a guess that something has gone wrong with the power steering. Could be something as simple as a belt come off, or more serious such as a failed pump or drive pulley.

Without teaching grandma to suck eggs, the fault light came on for a reason, regardless the car still ran normally.

The fault light and PAS failure might well be unrelated. From your message it's unclear whether you still continued to use the car after it started making the noises. If you did, then the begs the question why?

im sure someone will be along soon, but in the meantime go to www.frenchcarforum.co.uk go to the citroen forum and there is lots of info re xantias and lots of experts.
