  • Mazda CX-7 - Let down by Mazda customer service. 19 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I drove for Christmas to Poland and all was good but there was one think I wasn’t sure about… Mazda put castrol magnatec oil instead dexelia dpf. I already knew  about customer problems with dpf engines. I rung Mazda garage in Poland and they advised me to come and change it. So I went and after 20 min I been told that timing chain needs to be change!!
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi (08) - Ford refuse to help charity - turbo failure warning 18 Feb 2021 (Forum)
After much toing and throwing, Ford Customer Relations said that they were not prepared to help the charity as their technical team believed it was a servicing issue (that the likelihood was that oil starvation due to poor servicing caused the turbo failure, which caused the dpf failure and then engine failure).   This is not what the Ford Service Centre told me, which was that the foreign body that caused the turbo failure could have been from anything and it was impossible to say what the cause was.
  • mazda 6 2.2 sport - madza 6 engine failure under warranty 30 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Apparently when you get your car serviced with mazda they are told drop the sump and check the strainer as part of the service, this alone tells me that mazda know that there is a problem with there diesels. Every time the DPF filter regenerates it releases some diesel into the engine which again changes the oil and affects its properties, which means it can't keep the metal parts of the engine cool enough, so what happens with the heat and the friction is that the softest part of the engine gives way.
  • How/Where to report a scammer? 24 Dec 2018 (Forum)
He came equipped with a laptop & dealer-level diagnostic software, asking all kinds of HIGHLY technical questions about the car, most of which I had no idea what they even were. As a result of the diagnostics, a major problem with the turbo was found, as well as DPF and glow plugs, as a result I sold him the car for a big discount (£5200) sold as seen obviously, as there was quite a few quids worth of repairs to be done. Sure enough when it came time to sign over the V5 he wanted it signed over to him as a trader with the yellow slip.
  • Mazda 3 - Car sold with no service history. Advice/Feedback 21 Jun 2017 (Forum)
About 4 weeks ago some lights came on on the dash - Tyre pressure malfunction, Engine malfunction, DSC malfunction, DPF malfunction, Smart Brake assist malfunction. In addition the istop stopped working, and the dash section that shows you current gear and suggested gear also stopped working. I booked the car into Mazda (as advised by Stoneacre since it was under warranty), but when i took the car to Mazda I was told that I may not be covered for the work, as there was no service history with the car so the warranty could be invalid.
  • Toyota Yaris - Problems with Yaris bought recently from dealer 24 Feb 2017 (Forum)
This was followed by the engine management light. I took it to motorline bromsgrove. They said that the DPF needs regeneration and initially, they were going to charge me £101 as they said it should be covered under toyota warranty. Then they called back an hour later and said that they called toyota and toyota would NOT cover it under the warranty.
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 (1985 - 2000) - New Motor - something for the weekend 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Thankfully that shouldn't be too hard - around here garage rates are a whopping 27 euros an hour and every workshop is teaming with old men that have all grown up with these cars. Plus, with no DPF or DMF to worry about, I don't think I'll be losing much sleep. Heidi is now asleep under her protective cover. She may venture out and take the kids to school one day this week, but only if it's not raining...

  • Buying advice - family car for three in rear 30 Oct 2023 (Forum)
My main issue is that the petrol engines are far too thirsty but I'm concerned with the shorter journeys being an issue for the DPF in the diesel. Especially as the budget is looking at 70k 10+ year old models where issues are looking to arise as the mileage increases. I've mainly been looking at the 2.0 TDCi as I think I've read about issues with the 1.6 (please correct me if wrong).
  • Ford Focus - Ford TDCI limp mode issues 8 Jul 2021 (Forum)
So I have a 2008(58) Mazda 3 1.6d - using the Citroen HDi/Ford TDCI engine all mechanics seem to know and hate. Its Euro 4 so it has the EGR but no DPF. About a month ago it went into limp mode. It still drove but really struggled to get above 3k RPM and was very sluggish to pick up speed when driving. The weird thing was when the car is first started it drive perfectly for about the first 15 -.20 seconds then straight to limp.
  • Kia Ceed Sportswagon - (another) time to change? 21 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Oh, there was an MoT advisory of lower suspension arms wearing out which probably would cost 300 pounds; and the service is due in two months which will probably cost 180 pounds though I had only done 5,000 miles last year.  The Ceed has none of the usual things that honestjohn doesn’t like - DPFs, DMFs and belt cams, so the main bits should be all good. But the MoT advisory, and the fact that the a/c condenser was perished highlights the fact that nothing lasts forever and things do wear out.
  • 1.2 TSI vs 1.6 CR 105 - Skoda Fabia - advice to a colleague 6 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I asked her "How long are you going to keep it?" About 10 years. I immediately told her about the DPF and DMFs and what they do and how much they cost and how long they last. "But the tax is cheap and it does 67 mpg". I further explained that any tax savings would be gobbled up by maintaining the vehicle and one will not get anywhere near 67mpg - the VED system is based on totally inaccurate data" I asked her why the dealer did not persuade her to go petrol?
  • MPG Petrol & Diesel Figures/Car Economics 17 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Are the servicing costs higher on a diesel car? What about consumable items I assume they are the same either way ? There is also the dreaded DPF/DMF/EGR issues, or are they overrated? I should add, not in a ULEZ zone. What I am therefore asking is; where does MPG rank in the overall costs of ownership? Is a diesel as economical as they sound for MPG?
  • VW Passat - Scammed by (deleted) 15 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I paid £2000 for a recon engine in my passat and regretted it badly, the car came back with endless problems which ultimately lead me to trade the thing in for a big loss on what i could have got for it because of all the fault lights up on the dash- DPF filter, glowpugs (engine management), i count myself lucky to have made it to the dealer without breaking down AGAIN!!   The thing kept going into limp mode and cost me loads of money as i kept having to go to my local garage to have the thing seen to.
  • Advice on a future used car purchase 31 Jan 2017 (Forum)
I did consider buying another car last year, but after suffering 'paralysis through analysis' decided to stick with my 07 plate GTD Golf (no-dpf). Sadly the Golf's electrics/central locking is playing up and I'm concerned it may lead to a more serious, show stopping issue. I'm caught in two minds whether to buy something roughly 10 years old - petrol, FSH, maybe 1 owner, a brand/model thats generally considered reliable or go for something like a 3 year old Auris (maybe a Civic) and keep it until it dies - I've always kept my cars a long time, better the devil you know!
  • Dilemma of dilemmas of dilemmas 2 Feb 2012 (Forum)
After all, if my situation continued for 4 years, I'd have added a further 100k miles onto whatever I started with. A QUESTION: Does the Toyota 2.0 D4D have a DPF? Do the Hyundai and Kia 1.6 CRDi have a DPF? And then I found the the thread about Ethan Edwards's Nissan Note 1.6 petrol that he'd had converted to LPG by a reputedly-reputable firm. Seems as though if you can get a decent installation, there aren't too many drawbacks, and if the LPG system goes wrong, unlike a complex diesel going bang, you can usually just revert to petrol operation until it gets fixed.
  • Ford C-MAX - C-Max 2016 - 1.5 TDCI, 1.0 Ecoboost or 1.6 Ti-VCT 24 Mar 2019 (Forum)
We are not going to use the car inside big cities. Pros- Low consumption, low tax. Cons- I'm afraid of the DPF regeneration. My current car doesn't have it, I don't know if driving on the motorway on weekends will regenerate properly or will drive me mad.   1.0 Ecoboost 125HP? I think there is some other version of power, but honestly, the power or tri-cylinder I don't care a bit if it takes me from A to B.
  • Help with replacement car choice 16 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Has anyone (other than HJ) tried a 1.2 PureTec 308 and like it? Perhaps I should be looking at diesels- we have had two with DPFs and had no emissions systems problems and I will be getting rid at c. 75k-80k miles perhaps before any problems would emerge? The Hyundai has been generally reliable with only two faults fixed under warranty, a failed propshaft bearing and failed reversing camera.
  • Ford Focus Saloon 1.6 TDCI - Stumbling whilst accelerating or Cruising - Help 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
It has a brand new (12 months or so) DPF and I run it regualrly about once a month in 4th gear to burn of the carbon, because most of its werkly 2xdaily journeys are about 7 miles each. I know, I know. LOL  (Wifes work car). Should have got a Petrol one etc for short journeys.
  • mazda 6 diesel 2000cc sport diesel - mazda 6 2008 2000cc diesel noisey engine 13 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Went to buy some stock from Cheetam Hill approx 13 miles from where I live which is Partington as I got near deatination the DPF light was flashing but car was driving fine so wasnt overly concerned.     On the return journey I came off the m60 was in 2nd or third gear when the car began to accellerate on its own at maximum revs looked at my feet took foot off accellerator and the car was still accellerating put clutch down and coasted to a set of lights approx 800m down the road revs still at what I recall as being maximum, Forgot to mention the clouds of thick black smoke pouring out of the exhaust.
