  • Ford Fiesta TDCI 7 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Could anyone tell me if the 1.4 TDCI engine in a 2002 Fiesta is belt driven or has a timing chain? I have looked all over the internet and have not had any luck. I'll be test driving one tomorrow that has 130,000 miles on it so, naturally enough, I was wondering about the belt/chain situation. The trader wants £3295 for it and it only has a partial service history. I had a look at it today and my gut feeling was that it was in a fair and honest condition but if anyone can tell me particular things to watch for during the test drive I'd be very grateful for the information.

I own a Y-reg ford Ka which has done just over 41k miles & is still on it's original system despite being used for a mixture of trips. -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
  • No more a Corsa-Driver 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Yep, thats it, Corsa that served me so well over the last 18 months has gone to a new home- a family who have bought it for their son to learn to drive in. Am now the proud owner of a 53 plate SEAT Ibiza 1.2 3-cyl and its fantastic- lots more toys and nicer to drive even though its a cylinder down on the Corsa. I have one question though- how much power should air-con sap?

  • too many different models? 10 Aug 2005 (Forum)
This, apparently, is causing difficulties for dealers because they may not be able to show the customer the model he is interested in, let alone let him test drive it. Any dealers (Blue Haddock?) out there want to comment on how they are finding it? (And how many people per year do you get wanting to test drive a Yaris Verso?)
  • speedo fault 635csi 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I've switched the speedo closk unit for another with no effect so I assume its is either the cable drive on the gearbox drive. Any ideas? Where does the cable meet the gearbox on this car? many thanks

  • VW Golf Mk3 Smoking Engine 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi ,my 1995 VW Golf Driver 1.8 is smoking from its engine after driving it for half an hour or so. I have taken it to a VW garage ,and they couldnt find anything wrong with it ,but after driving it away,it did it again. The smoke is grey/white,and seems to be coming right from the engine itself.
  • 1998 Megane - No Heating 3 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I don't seem to have any warm air coming in through to the cabin of my 1998 1.4e Renault Megane. A couple of days ago the air was a little warm if you let it come in on its own (i.e whilst driving without the blower on). Now there is no warm air at all and it's freezing cold at the moment. Can anyone suggest what it might be so I have an idea before taking it to a mechanic? Also after a long drive i have noticed a hissing from the colant bottle- the level is fine.

  • Learner Drivers 25 Jun 2004 (Forum)
First of all, I would just like to say that this is not a Learner Driver Bashing Thread! I was wondering if there is some sort of "standard" of driving that learners should reach before they are out on the road. In my day, we went to car parks and empty industrial estates until I had full control over clutch bite, changing gear etc. But nowadays I see Learners on the road that give the impression they are on their first driving lesson!
  • Astra speedo 18 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I explained that I was aware of him and the speed limit and even told him what side road he'd pulled out of. I offered to let him drive so his colleague could check the indicated speed. He was good enough to let me go without a ticking off which was appreciated but if you're driving an Astra take care!

  • Tell us something we don't know! 23 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Well Well Well It seems that the AA and the Police Force have told the country what most backroomers have known for a while. 500,000 drivers in the UK are driving vehicles that are not registered to them. 1,500,000 drivers are driving without insurance. Well, I'm just glad that legislation was passed to penalise the honest motorists should he or she forget to renew VED on time.
  • Transporting a frail OAP 30 Dec 2003 (Forum)

  • TrafficCops Programme 13 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Apart from usual entertainment from low life wasting Police time, why did the officer feel he should also add to this poor use of resources & create a potentially dangerous situation? I'm referring to the stopping & interviewing of the driver & salesman on a test drive. Commonsense would have said, it was it a good idea to hi-light the foolish practice of driving with obscured vision. But on a busy road, plenty of heavy traffic passing, filming it too, all adding to the risk of an accident.I don't think so!!
  • Vauxhall Fault Codes 8 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Hi Guys I have a W reg (2000) Vauxhall Astra 1.7 DTi with the Isuzu 16v engine. My engine management light came on whilst driving home from work last night and was wondering if there was any DIY test to read the fault codes rather than being stung for a price of a diagnostic by the dealer. I am still driving it as I don't have a choice with no alternative transport until the weekend, but there is no apparent loss of power.
