• Mobile Speed Van detection - settle arguement 12 Jan 2015 (Forum)
  A friend reckons, in the same scenario. The camera is fully automated and can detect each vehicle on approach. Been to "motordefenceteam" site which explains all camera's used by various police forces. But not enough said of the their functions to settle our views.

  Any idea's of what distance a Mobile safety camera van on the road side starts to measure your speed and over what distance to get a reading on an open roadway from a lay-by. I saw one approx. half to three quarter of a mile away, at the time I saw van I was doing 53mph (digital) on a 50mph limit dual carriageway.

  However, good for them because this is a bit of 30mph dual carriageway in a residential area just where folk cross from Asda with their shopping so it was acting as a safety camera not a revenue collector. Any way, I digress. After seeing this van I realised how much they look like ambulances and even more so like Autoglass vans. Not a criticism, just an observation.

  These fall off the windscreen anyway (the sticky pads cannot take the extra weight). But in these days of small covert cameras and Nissan Primeras with reversing TV images (she doesn\'t want as big a car as the Primera), does anyone know if such items can be sourced and retrofitted on cars?   Just a post to say more SPECS cameras have appeared on the M6. I noticed them today between J6/7 northbound on the "roadworks" that are allegedly occuring. There is no warning of cameras as you approach the raodworks and no camera sign so I dont know if they are working yet but they appear just past the J6 bridge with another about 1/2 mile short of J7.

  Just on the off chance! A big thankyou to the Astra driver who flashed me yesterday to warn of a mobile speed camera in the Buckinghamshire* area! I was doing a little bit naughty 50 in a 30! The camera was well hidden by trees! * Not saying the more acurate area due to obvious reasons!

  For all those who thought an in car camera was overkill & paranoia I have just had an excellent result! Driving thorugh a town late at night some holigan thought it would be an excellent idea to try running at my wifes car & kung-fu kick the doorswhilst i was driving ( 20mph) !
