  • Shock absorbers - Nissan Primera 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I think my 1995 Primera is running on the original dampers. It has covered 95,000 miles. I have owned it from 65,000 so I can\'t be 100% if they have been replaced or not. The car no longer feels \"right\" and I suspect the dampers are to blame.
  • Focus TDdi owners ................... 11 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I'm looking to see if the 2nd one from the top of the 2nd column is fitted or not. This is actually called the engine run relay. Its important that its a TDdi/Endura engine NOT a TDci - and it MUST have a heated front screen. Thanks in anticipation. Robert
  • Peugeot 306 Problem 10 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Having trouble with my 2000X 306 1.4 (45,000miles) Both problems may be related: One is that the car is running hot very early. Turning on the rear heated windscreen makes the temperature gauge shoot up nearly to red from 90. Turn it off and it drops immediately. I am not sure whether this has anything to do with the wire that has appeared in the footwell at the drivers side.
  • Laguna Engine cut out 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have an L reg Laguns 2.0 RXE in very nice condition for age of car but suffers engine cut out. The car starts and runs very well but will cut out completly without spluttering or warning. After being stationary for less than a minute the engine will start immediately and then cut out again a couple of hundred yards up the road. due to age and mileage 147K it does not justify spending a fortune and would be a shame to send it to the scrap yard due to its overall condition.
  • Almera Auto weird fuel economy 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
However, the fuel economy, even for an auto, is weird. Can someone please shed some light .... On motorway (or on a run) the car is remarkably economical, doing 40+mpg. However, around town it only does about 15mpg. I have checked by refilling and recalculating several times. Around town you can virtually see the fuel gauge drop.
  • 306 TD - unexpected white smoke 24 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The cars' a 306 xrdt (1.9 td) '94 with 85k, It's used daily on a 60 mile round journey on m'ways & dual carriegeways. It's been running ok except this morning when I accelerated hard in 3rd up a hill past a slower vehicle, it pulled ok but for the next 3 to 4 miles it was chucking out white smoke as I drove at a steady 60. This cleared then the rest of the journey seemed ok although I did keep to a very steady speed, Am I likely to have blown something or was it just clearing it's lungs so to speak, I don't normally push the revs above 3000 or so as I let the torque do the work.
  • Civic R-Type 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Yesterday on his way to work the engine siezed and the Honda dealership recovered him and have given him a courtesy car. The garage rang him today to tell him the car appears to have run out of oil so it wouldn't be covered under the warranty and they will ring him tommorrow with an estimate for repairs. He has explained to them that he only picked the car up on monday and was told the car had had a thorough check.
  • Problematic VW Golf 1.6SE 2002 13 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The faults are: 1, Water leak from both front doors, bottom left hand corner. 2, Squeak and creaking noise from steering colum whilst on the move. 3, Rattling trim from drivers door panel and panel below headlight switch. 4, clutch pedal banging noise when released from fully depresed. 5, hesitation under acceleration between 4,000rpm and redline. 6, Low oil pressure warning light coming on for no reason. 7, Exhaust emissions light coming on and rough running of engine. Most of these faults after a few visits have been fixed and the car is in the workshop today hopfully for the last time.I would be interested if anyone else has suffered these problems.
  • Rover 600 coolant loss 27 Apr 2003 (Forum)
i have a (95)Rover 620 si Auto that has a coolant loss problem. i am having to top up every couple of days as the expansion tank is empty and the radiator itself also needs a top up..There is no evidence of an external leak and the system has been bled (point near thermostat).. there is no sign of water in the oil, a compression test has also proven ok..The engine runs smooth and does not overheat even when the water in the radiator is down...could there be a fault with the pressure cap that allows water to be drawn out from the expansion tank but will not allow water to flow in as the bodywork near to this point gets very hot??
  • Main Dealer Haggling 12 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have pointed out various marks on the bodywork and an odd tyre, but he says these will be fixed and a new tyre will be supplied to match the other three. Any ideas on what approach I should take when I go tomorrow for a test run? I will be paying cash.
  • BMW V MB v Rover 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Ideally it should not be more than 4 years old and 60,000 miles. I know these cars aren't cheap to run but something of this ilk wouldn't be too bad on the pocket. I only do about 11,000m/yr so a two year old, 40,000 miler wouldn't be so bad as I'm planning to keep it for at least four years. Would the auctions be a good bet for me maybe?
  • Audi power steering/hydraulic system 1 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The auto-check system displays the symbol indicating a problem with the system (low fluid level or lack of pressure), and the pump makes a bit of noise that wasn't there before. If the steering is moved (engine running) it also makes an unpleasantly painful noise. My assumption is that the system is failing to build up pressure as it should, but I don't know why. Any ideas/similar tales of woe (with happy, inexpensive endings) appreciated.

  • Nissan QX don't go 3 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Hi, A neighbour has a Nissan QX and due to visitors he had to shuttle his car out of his drive so the engine was only running for 30 seconds. No Prob, but the next day the car just would not start. It took the RAC two sets of big jumpers wide open throttle and 60 seconds of cranking and she fired up. RAC guy says this is a common fault with Nissans if it’s a bit cold and you start the car for a short time the management system falls when you come to start it again.
  • Fiesta - how easy to fit CD/radio 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
How easy would it be to fit it myself? Would I need any additional wires/harnesses/whatever? And the speakers... How/where do I run the wires to hide them? Quick answer would be much appreciated as the offer starts tomorrow...!!! Oh, and does anyone know what it might cost to get it done? Argos have the same radio for about £70 more but with free fitting (radio only).
  • Cooling System Prob / Head Gasket 14 Jan 2003 (Forum)
My own thoughts are a possible blockage in the radiator, but I'm not too familiar with the cooling system. Many thanks for any help given... Nick PS No water in oil, no oil in water, runs sweet and doesn't misfire at all.
  • Dealer with no stock? 7 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Passing a Mercedes Benz dealership every to and from work I noticed this morning instead of the normal 20 + cars it normally has I could only count 1 c class and as I was passing and a few A class tucked away at the back of the forecourt. Is it normal practice at this time of year to run stock down or something peculiar with this dealer who are by the way Woking Motors on the A3? Whilst I am at it, a few weeks ago popped down to Blackbushe auction as had some time to kill and many years since been to car auction.
  • The thank you thread 26 Dec 2002 (Forum)
For people like me who have no knowledge about cars, it's most reassuring to get opinions from far more knowledgeable folk who don't have a vested interest in the matter and stand to gain nothing. So THANKS AGAIN all !! Also thanks to HJ, Mark & the crew for running this place - let's hope it goes from strength to strength. * what does HJ use his spare room for ?
  • Free 1965 Rover 3 litre 1 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I've put this in Technical matters because it will only interest the technical minded. The car is near Winchester and has been standing 18 months. The engine runs fine. The body is a bit rusty but not too bad. There is starring on the bonnet. The rear bumper is rusted through. The inside is very poor due to a leaking windscreen seal and is very wet. Some of the leather is splitting apart and the varnish all gone.
  • Audi 100 s4 fuel consumption 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone with a similar car get fuel consumption this low or does it point to a fault with the car, the car runs well and I use Shell Optimax unfortunately I cannot afford to only get 250 miles from a £55 tank of fuel. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
