Now I don't want anyone to think I'm going soft but I think now would be a good time for us all to register our thanks to all those who have helped (both technically & otherwise), advised, amused and stimulated us here in HJ's BackRoom.*
Those who've offered advice to my current and past technical problems will know who they are and if I could buy them a pint I would.
For people like me who have no knowledge about cars, it's most reassuring to get opinions from far more knowledgeable folk who don't have a vested interest in the matter and stand to gain nothing. So THANKS AGAIN all !!
Also thanks to HJ, Mark & the crew for running this place - let's hope it goes from strength to strength.
* what does HJ use his spare room for ?

I will just echo your thoughts, Volvoman.
Same as you, the people who have helped/are helping me here, over various matters, (technical and especially non-technical), know who they are, so I don't need to mention names, and they know (I hope) how grateful I am to them.
This is a great place to come to, in times of need, for advice, and amusement, and just general enjoyment. I personally feel very lucky to have found this site.
Getting all dewy-eyed and sentimental now so will just say thanks to you all, and hope you have a very happy Christmas and New Year.

Perfectly put!
Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

Hi all,
Just like to say that I agree with Volvoman, not much I can add, this is a great site, with great contributors and I'd like to say thanks to everyone who makes it possible.
Hope everyone has a brilliant Christmas!

Well said, volvoman.
The season's greetings to all. Long may the Back Room continue.
|
Absolutely!
This place has been a god-send! If you guys hadn't been so generous with your advice, I wouldn't have bought a diesel, wouldn't know how to drive one to its full potential and most definitely would have spent a hellovalot more money on fuel.
Thanks! Lots!
Have a fantastic christmas and New Year, with lots of chocolate, booze and mistletoe ;-D

Couldn't agree more.
Three cheers for HJ, Mark and friends.
One day, I may find out what you all look like! Hmmmmmm maybe best if I dont! ;)
|
Can you imagine a back-room get together? Toads here, ALfas there, Volvos in the middle, 4x4s wheresoever they pleased?
Be one mighty big traffic jam.....
I've only been posting these last two weeks and have enjoyed every minute of the banter, advice and argu.... constructive discussion.
Seasons greetings to all.
|
Adding my thanks to everyone else's, thanks to HJ, Mark, David, Stephen, Martyn & all the people around here who've helped me while away many an hour.
Hope Santa brings you all the presents you ask for and that you become immune to hangovers for the new year!

Has Ian's virtual bar been given extended opening hours for the festivities? Mines a Speckled Hen...
You bet, Lee - mine will be Bass, of course.
Nice talking to you all, and sorry if I've occasionally slumped to the bar floor in a crumpled heap. I'll get better, one day.
Cheers and beers

If we're all off down the 'Drivers Arms' - who's driving us home ?
:-)
|
My thanks also to the back room staff and the mechanical & legal experts who've kept me informed and entertained in my quiet moments!
Merry Xmas to all & if someone's offering I will be drinking Directors.

These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads.

Thanks to everyone, great site, great people, great advice.
Hope you all have a safe and Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Thanks everyone for all the help and advice I have had with obscure faults on ancient German cars. Merry Christmas to you all.
P.S I'm driving my 20 year old Polo down to Devon for Christmas - a decision forced on me because the handbrake on my Audi has seized, it needs new calipers both sides and I don't have time to fix it.....

Good Luck Richard : Happy Christmas everyone else! Tim
Change of plan - the Polo developed fuel starvation problems on the way home last night. So I now have two useless cars. I amy have to rethink this bangernomics thing....
Local van hire place comes to the rescue - a diesel Escort van for ten days, £100 + VAT. I'll probably save about half of that in lower fuel costs.

Been there, Richard: used the 'T' shirt to wipe the oil off my hands. I was going to mention the fuel pump but didn't dare!
I'm only doing 100 miles in the £450 Gti (which passed it's M.o.T. yesterday) but am looking forward to the drive over the Wolds 'thru Malton.
Good luck to everyone else who is stuffing the car as well as the turkey!

Thankyou for all the technical and interesting conversations. Despite being a long time lurker I dont often speak up but enjoy most of what goes on here and have learnt a huge amount that has probably saved my a lot of money over the last couple of years.
Merry Christmas everyone, drive safely over the break, remember there will be loads of 'holiday drivers' out there on the dark and icy roads!

Hi Gang!!
...and thanks.
I've not been here long, but you are an absolute mine of useful information. I won't even pretend that I know half of what's going on, but hey...!!
I'll let you know what the Monkey buys in the New Year!!

Happy Christmas to you all, and thanks to all those who contribute, in one way or another, to making this one of the most constructive and least cliquey forums i've come across in six or seven years of surfing

The best motoring site/forum there is (IMO). I just wish it wasn't so addictive!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Backroomers. I will raise my virtual glass (and many real ones)to you over the festive season.
Cheers
Pat

Yep, I'll add my thanks and best wishes to all the helpers and helpees out there! Not had much chance to get near the computer this week, pressure of work and all that...
Seasons greetings and best wishes to one and all, and if you're drinking - we're really not as expensive as you think! ;-)

Hear hear to all the above, this has become my motoring site of choice. In fact, I bought a car based mainly on the store of knowledge available here. Well done to everyone concerned for making it an entertaining and informative site with far less of the hostility I sometimes see elsewhere and much more intelligent comment and interesting content.

Superb website, absolute "mine" of information and enjoyable discussions, the technical contributers have saved me considerable expense recently. Must be the best motoring site around. I know of nowhere else where such informative, unbiased information and advice can be found.

Merry Christmas to all.

Thanks to HJ and Mark, and all posters, from north of the border. It certainly is addictive, but great source of info recently, especially the search facility!
All the best for Xmas and New Year

Merry Christmas to everyone on the site. As a new member I appreciate the warm welcome I have been given and the tolerance I been afforded when talking rubbish.
All the best for the new year.

Loads of thanks to everybody, Management and Contributors, for a great site which has probably cut my productivity by ten percent.
|
Ditto, ditto. Thanks to HJ.
I bought a Mondeo estate, largely on your advice for SWMBO to ferry the kids around. No regrets after 18 months which, I am embarrassed to admit, is a first in 20+ years of driving. I owe you a drink or two.
I saw you at Blackbushe, but didn't like to interrupt. You seemed to be working harder than anyone else in the sale-room, including the auctioneers.
Thanks also to Mark and all other forum regulators and the many contributors for the entertainment & knowledge you've all donated.
Happy Christmas

Seasons greetings to one and all.
Thanks to Honest John, Mark, Stephen, Martyn along of course with all the regular and irregular backroom posters for making this a friendly and enjoyable place to come. And of course a fantastic escape from work/the wife/miscellaneous toils and troubles (delete as appropriate!).
Special thanks to all those who take the trouble to stump up technical advice and help when it's required by others less knowledgable whether it has been for me or anyone else - you know who you all are whether you admit it or not!
A prosperous 2003 to one and all and safe driving over the wintering period - motoring link ;)

Well you've all given me the perfect excuse to start on the wine and drink a toast to all posters!
I will mention a name because although I have enjoyed reading (nearly!) all the posts and have received help from many, Adam Going is top man for saving me spending £600 on my son's car and suggesting a £22.50 (+ scraped knuckles as usual) alternative which cured the problem (see "Clio Starting problem")
Cheers Adam, and all

From a long-time "member" but infrequent poster , many thanks to you all for the entertainment . Long may the forum continue .Merry Christmas and the very best for the New Year . DeeJay.

It's always a pain coming in at the last gasp because everyone else has already said all there is to say (that serves me right for having a million and one other things to do and no time to do them in). But it doesn't mean you shouldn't say anything so I'll keep it short and sweet and say: ditto.
|
I'll shecond the above thanks to HJ, Mark (Royal Life Boat Service) et al. Hic. Leif.
|
THE place for THE answers and friendly too. It's like the nice borg encyclopedia of cars. Happy Christmas everyone...god l feel a manly crushing hug coming on.

Happy Christmas and all the best for 2003.
Try and keep out of trouble.

I only discovered the site a month ago but now visit all the time for useful info!
Cheers to all.

Dear All,
Many thanks for the time and patience you have all shown and the knowledge so willingly imparted. To the stalwart regulars many thanks especially, BrianW and FIF who have helped demystify any number of arcane points.
I have learnt a lot from this site.
To HJ, Martyn and all the team that make this site work so well, I hope that this venture goes from strength to strength. Live long and prosper.
Merry Christmas one and all and a Happy New year.
regards

Many thanks for the advice and information about vans.
I also felt very supported with respect to my anti litter post (This may sound Petty But.....) Thanks guys.
Have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Charles - don't forget that card with your new address!

I'd like to thank you all too.
I like to think I can also contribute in terms of buying advice, valuations and so on, although I recognise that my technical skills are limited and I hope I appear to be willing to learn.
I feel that it is a community and we all have something to give, as well as many opportunities to benefit. So thank you once again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, although I will be putting maybe unjustified prices on obscure cars for the next few weeks and beyond anyway.
(Actually I'm good at that, I've gone to acutions and generally get within £50 of the final value of the car before the bidding has started).
|
Thank you for all your kind thoughts and wishes, and apologies for not being here sooner.
- I have recovered from flu just in time to deal with the rest of the household developing it.
A Happy Christmas to you all, lets hope Santa brings you all something nice.

Yes - this is a great site - it has been both useful and entertaining for me.
Thank you one and all and a Merry Christmas.

Was going to thank the threadees on the last thread I've been helped on but this seems a perfect place to sew a little happiness and weave a web of thanks to the chaps who've come up with some christmas anti-hump (of the speed variety) suggestions.

Respect to all the dudes and dudettes here who provide so much info!
Thank you all.
