  • Stinky Widscreen Washer fluid 24 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Among my cars, I have a Hyundai Coupe 2.7 V6 (03 plate) and the washer bottle is causing me grief. After a long hot run (I commute from Kent to Paris each week) the washer fluid (inserted by the Hyundai agent) seems to render down to a gel and gives off an odour reminiscent to the most dire case of flatulence that any camel has ever had!!
  • Vauxhall Meriva 1.7CDTi Chirruping ! 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I've got a 1.7cdti vauxhall meriva. The car is fine except for a strange noise, and as the warranty is running out I need to get it sorted. When accelerating hard in a high gear, from 1400 to 1800rpm there is a load "chirruping" noise from the engine compartment directly in front of the driver. The engine isn't labouring - it pulls well - but this noise doesn't sound good.
  • Mini Flat Battery : o ( 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I suspect the alternator or wiring even though the red warning light doesn't come on while driving and it is working. Is it correct to assume that if I put a volt meter across the battery terminals with the car running and get a reading of 13.5 ish volts the alternator is charging ok or is it not that simple? Thanks, Stuart
  • Enterprise 7 Seat MPV? 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
They agreed and are providing a car through Enterprise. Has anyone had a full size people carrier through them, and if so what do they tend to run? Tried asking them, but they were very vague and just said you will get what we have on the day! My interest lies in the fact that I quite like the new Galaxy so view this as an oportunity to get an extended test drive............
  • Is it worth getting rid of rust? 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I want to hang on to the car for at least 3 years. It's reliable (touch wood) and fairly cheap to run. It has various other scratches and dings that I'm not too bothered about but the rust bubbles concern me as they are slowly spreading round the wheel arch. Do I need to get this sorted - ie, will it lead to MOT failure down the line?
  • Fiat Seicento - Sticking revs 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Usually after a hot run, my Seicento tends to hold onto its revs when you change gear - it takes 3-5 seconds before they die down if I just dip the clutch and dont go for the next gear. It doesnt happen that much in local driving but its very consistant when the car is warmed through properly.
  • pug 306 dying clutch/gearbox prob? HELP! 30 May 2007 (Forum)
hi i own a t plate 1.9td meridian 306 with approx 109k on the clock, yesterday while driving i noticed my car started slipping out of gear, but then it got stuck into 4th gear and would not budge, i got a mate to help me tow it back home, but when i took my foot off the clutch despite being in 4th gear the engine was running as if in neutral, i have tried to get this looked into but so far i have been told seperately the clutch has gone, the gearbox has gone and everything in between, i appreciate the problem may need to be looked into further but would be grateful for any advice as i feel like i might be being taken 4 a ride. thanks in advance.
  • Save my 306 from Arson!!! 27 May 2007 (Forum)
Peugeot charged me £110 to say they didn't know, two other garages don't know...my mate works for the RAC and has replaced the lambda sensor and cat and still not happening! It's running badly and just will not go past 3000rpm...where the engine tone dips then struggles.... It's got a rattle somewhere and after I put oil in it, it turned the water like chocolate milkshake..although it hasn't lost compression or over heats at all????
  • Hornet or Bandit or SV650 - views? 22 May 2007 (Forum)
I want something interesting, quick enough (without being mental!), a decent all rounder, decent build and running costs. Won't be burning up the tracks or appearing on You tube! Suggestions/feedback welcome. Cheers Baz
  • Worst excuse from a mfr/dealer/tech 17 May 2007 (Forum)
They called me the next day, and I quote "We've been working on it all day, and managed to get around it for you this time, but if you run it out of fuel again, it'll definitely need a new ECU" Eh? Cheers DP
  • Nissan Micra Idling Badly and Stalling 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
We had the distributor replaced as we initially thought it was the ignition coil. However, while this has made it run better, it has not solved the problem. We have also checked the lambda sensor, throttle pot, mass meter, idle control valve which all seem to be okay. The only thing we haven't checked is the coolant temperature sensor but the gauge in the car seems okay.
  • Just picked up new car 22 Apr 2007 (Forum)
And the engine is a thousand times better even with less than 100 miles on the clock, the pick up from 2000 revs is impressive ( it has caught me out once though off boost at 1500 revs- not much happens then all of a sudden woosh). As for running it in, the hand book says take it steady for 600 miles which I've taken as keep it below 3000 revs, but other people have mentioned drive it normally as if you pamper it things won't bed in as they should.
  • Aircon efficiency over time 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have placed a quality mercury bulb thermometer about 2" into the the central face level vents and run the aircon at 1500rpm with all the air directed through these vents and on 'recirculation' and have obtained a minimum temperature of 4ºC - this with an outside temperature of about 18ºC. I was wondering whether this value was typical and in the right range for a system in good working order?
  • Primera GT Lost all drive 30 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Or, ideally, the gearbox linkages coming off? There was no warning of this happening at all and i'm pretty sure i didn't hit anything/run anything over. Clutch and gearbox are both original at 163k but neither was particularly ropey. Any idea of cost to fix, whichever problem it may turn out to be? Thanks in advance Steve
  • Kia Pride EGR 28 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It didn't have an air filter when I got it, presumably because it would clog up with carbon. It's also got a carburettor. I'm quite happy with its performance and running, but I wonder what would happen if the EGR pipe was, err, inadvertently blocked. I presume the air filter would stay cleaner for longer, but I'm thinking less exhaust gas equals more air, more air equals leaner mixture, leaner mixture means lambda sensor makes mixture richer (goodness knows how), more air plus more fuel equals more performance?
  • Peugeot 407 Coupe (2006 - ) - Mine has arrived 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The ride is excellent (although moving from 19" alloys to 17", that's to be expected) and it's very, very quiet inside. Decided against the BMW because of the awful run flat tyres (and there's so many around), Brera came close, but the dealer was truly awful and practicalities won over. The 407 does everything I need it to do and there isn't one parked in every other space.
  • Should I buy? 6 Mar 2007 (Forum)
They informed me today that they couldnt get it started and were sending it to a VW garage to go through a full diagnostic check and get it up and running. I am now having second thoughts about buying the car as it may be a fault somewhere that is draining the battery somehow. Any advice on what I should do? I really like the car, but this is making me a bit jittery, as I have suffered from a car with electrical problems before and it was never out the garage.
  • Mitsubishi RVR 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
anyone any experience withthese - do they drive well, or are they like most 4x4s, slow, thirsty, wallowy and expensive to run ? Does the load area go flat with the seats folded down or do the seats come out to give a "van" ?
  • Get Fleeced as you drive 20 Feb 2007 (Forum)
. £62 billion (yes, billion) to set it up - which given this Government's track record on estimates means it'll probably end up being nearer £200 billion 3. Nearly £7 billion a year to run (including setting up a "debt management" and debt collectore to make sure you pay I'm finding it hard to find any redeeming features to this whole plan. Think or what that £62 billion could do to the entire transport network in this country.
  • Will Road Charging be a vote loser? 15 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Yes, road charging is just one issue, but it affects so many people and if the charges are as predicted, it will hit a huge majority of people very hard, esp those of use who run small businesses and cannot go to our customers homes on the bus! What opinions does the BR have on how much weight a political party that doesnt support road charging will gain? Are we going to see some serious back-peddling in order not to loose votes?
