    While Beetlemania occurred when someone paid £8,000 for a 58k mile 2002/52 VW Beetle TDI. Yet Monday’s Top Car price of £12,400 for a 56k 02 reg BMW 320dSE Compact looked a bit excessive compared to today’s of £11,300 for a 41k mile 2002/52. At least cars are now coming though in quantity.

    Once again every trader I spoke to was muttering doom and gloom. Showroom business is so bad they were taking more calls from punters wanting to sell them cars than from punters wanting to buy cars. Yet auction prices remain rock solid. Even this 2002/52 reg FunTech 50cc three wheeler buggy with no keys, no V5 and a dubious past sold for a substantial £1,700.

  • Electric classics ‘must not be considered historic vehicles’ says FIVA 21 Oct 2019 (News)
    Classics that have been converted to run on an electric powertrain should not be considered historic vehicles, according to a group that aims to protects the heritage of old cars. FIVA (the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens or international federation of historic vehicles) says it cannot promote the use of modern EV components (motors and batteries) to replace a historic vehicle’s powertrain to owners or regulators.

    A 1995 Porsche 993 Turbo Cabriolet once owned by the Sultan of Brunei is going under the hammer. The car is one of only 14 993 Turbo Cabriolets produced by Porsche - and the only right-hand drive example in existence. It is estimated at £500,000 to £700,000. It is one of 80 classic and sports cars in Coys’ Spirit of Motoring auction, which takes place at London’s Royal Horticultural Halls on 17 October. This 993 Turbo Cabriolet, which has been part of a significant European collection since 2009, has covered just over 9000km and looks set to be the star of the auction.
  • Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Spyder heads to auction 12 Oct 2017 (News)
    A 1960 Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Spyder looks set to be the star of Bonhams’ inaugural Italian auction. The car, which is estimated at €600,000-€700,000 will go under the hammer on 28 October at Auto e Moto d’Epoca - Italy’s largest classic motor show. The 3500GT drew on Maserati’s competition experience, and is one of their sought after 2+2s.
  • ‘Flat nose’ Porsche 911 breaks UK auction record at Salon Prive sale 5 Sep 2017 (News)

  • Bugatti that survived WW2 target practice heads to auction 4 Jul 2017 (News)
    The Vanvooren saloon body began life on another T44 that was supplied new to Jean Jacques Peugeot (of the car making dynasty). Damian Jones, H&H’s head of sale, said the car was ‘…beautifully detailed with unusual triple-hinged doors and among the most delightful Vintage Saloons we have encountered.’ The started with the Peugeot family but was then drilled with bullet holes when German troops took up residence in the French chateaux where it was garaged.

    One of the more eye-catching lots is a 1996 Aston Martin V8 Sportsman estate. Ordered by two Swiss brothers, the cars left the factory as standard left-hand drive V8 Coupes in July 1996, were homologated, and then returned to the factory to be modified as shooting brakes. Finished in British Racing Green with matching upholstery, it had an engine rebuild at 9626km.
  • Opec deal could push up fuel prices by 9p-per-litre 1 Dec 2016 (News)
