VW Polo 1.4 TDi 03 plate - P1556 fault immediately following accident 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I find it unbelievable that this can be coincidental - the car was running perfectly immediately before and then badly immediately (not after 10 miles or 20 miles or 100 miles, immediately) after. Could an accident cause damage that results in this fault and if so what could the cause be? -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 01 2.0 Heater blower running after car locked. 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Weirdness today. Went out to the Volvo after it had been parked for about 25 mins. Could hear a fan running which I thought was the rad fan, but on closer investigation turned out to be the heater blower. Unlocked the car, and sure enough, the fan was blowing away merrily. The fan was completely unresponsive to the control on the dash (manual air con, not climate). -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 02 2.0HDI Cold start problem 27 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The fault code was cleared and the glowplugs replaced. Result - still fires on what sounds like one cylinder from cold with lots of smoke and lumpy running. I can drive away and within 100 metres it's running cleanly and once fully warm seems to run as it should. I've looked back over some earlier posts on the 2 litre HDI and found in Screwloose's experience they are ---"Without doubt the most difficult engine to diagnose - bar none". -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 2000 2.0hdi - fuel pump 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
we have a 2.0 hdi x reg xara and it has developed a fuel pump fault. It starts then drives about 100 metres then stops. wait a few minutes and it will start then run about the same distance the stop. The garage said its the fuel pump and that it could need the whole fuel system changing. We found fillings in the fuel filter. when the car runs it runs well and same as it has for the few months we have owned it. -

Hi I have a 2000 306 Hdi, she has been running fine for the last while after a few problems, one being changing the low pressure fuel pump in the tank. But she has been running great. At the weekend i put £20 of maxol fuel in which is 5% biodiesel. then after a trip of 80 miles i refilled the car to the neck, this was 4 days ago. -

Audi A4 cutout when hot 28 Jul 2007 (Forum)
It is a very nice car but has one annoying fault that is getting worse and I cannot understand it. It starts well from cold but when warm may start and run for a few seconds and then cut out. When it gets hot it is worse and it may take several attempts and several minutes before it stays running. It always starts but initially cuts out after a few seconds. -
Astra 1.7D overheating Problem 15 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I recently purchased a 1996 Vauxhall Astra 1.7 Diesel turbo GM engine, which is suffering rapid engine overheating. Basically after a cold start the engine overheats within 10-15 minutes running stationary, the top hose is red hot and bottom hose cold, no circulation. The gauge is in the red and water boiling in the tank. It previously had a head gasket fitted due to overheating, the water pump has been checked, not worn and free running, and the thermostat renewed. -
Mondeo running costs (for saddos) 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Well, if anyone ever wondered how much it costs to run a car, in this case a 2l petrol Mondeo estate, I can give you chapter & verse. If you aren't asleep by now: It is an ex-company car which I ran from new and bought off the company when it was 3.5 years old. -

Tipo fails MoT on emissions 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Gave it a treatment of injector cleaner, still no improvement, so put in in for early test to see what else it failed on, with a view to fix if cheap. It starts and runs fine, except it's doing 25 mpg driven sensibly, on medium runs. Is there something I'm missing here - say ECU failure? Seems unlikely that the timing is/was incorrectly set (by a professional), given that it's otherwise running acceptably. -
Hit and run 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hello all, When drving home from work today I was hit by a Fiesta - awful driving on his part. The driver made a run for it. I got his number plate and told the Police immediately. No witnesses, though, as I tried to chase him! What are the chances of: 1. The Police tracing him 2. Him having any insurance 3. My car getting fixed and me not losing my no claims There is superficial damage to the front driver's side and the tracking is out +++. -
coolant dissapearing - VW Polo 26 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi My daughters K reg Polo 1.1 has started to use/ loose coolant about 1/4 pint a week.cannot find any leaks around hoses, water pump radiator ect. oil level not increased and looks ok. took off rocker cover very clean inside apart from a very small amount of mayonaze around oil filler cap, thought this could be condensation due to short runs (8 miles per day)and cold weather just recently.Engine runs fine starts ok, runs at same temporature as always has.Noticed a lot of clean water from exhaust, but again could be condensation. So am I worying over nothing or are we heading for problems? -
Tipo Injector Warning Light 5 Dec 2004 (Forum)
My N reg Tipo 1.4 has been a station run stalwart for a few years now, with the odd long run every month as a treat. In the past few weeks the fuel injector warning light on the dash (red with a symbol that my wife thinks looks like a baby's bottle) has been coming on. -
Mondeo 1.8 Zetec engine dies? 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
When starting from cold or hot the engine often hunts around the idle rpm or may simply start and die. This can happen several times before it will run properly. When it does run properly it occasionally hunts around the idle rpm otherwise it runs perfectly. The garage have not been able to find a problem as the problem never manifests itself at the garage. -
Which oil for Mondeo Zetec-E engine? 14 May 2004 (Forum)
I have a slight concern with which oil to use on a 1997 MK2 Mondeo with the 1800 115bhp Zetec-E unit. It is currently being run on 5-30 Semi Synthetic oil made by Shell Helix. The Ford dealer recommends this as it meets basic Ford specification. It is an API SJ oil. I am considering running the car on 5-30 Mobil One Fully-Synthetic. -
Fully Synthetic Oil for Diesels? 17 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Folks, I picked up some synthetic oil from GSF in Sheffield yesterday. At a good price. I intend to run a fully synth in my XM 2.5 as a "life-prolonging" exercise (there have been hostoric issues with cam lobe wear on this engine, so I understand), to make life on the short runs a bit easier, and for the simple fact that Mrs G. is not always as sympathetic as she should be on short runs from cold. -
Cost running petrol v diesel 7 Sep 2003 (Forum)
This may have been covered before but has anyone worked out the costs of running two similar cars - one with a petrol engine and another on diesel. I am interested in two scenarios - buying new and at, say, three years old. What sort of milage do you have to do each year to make the diesel viable?
