  A stellar line-up of 60 first-rate has been confirmed for the 2013 St James' Concours of Elegance, held on the Royal lawns of St James’s, Central London from 5-7 September 2013. With more than 20 cars coming from the UK, 16 from Europe, 13 from the States and the rest from as far afield as Argentina, Mexico and Russia, many of these car have never before been seen in public. The event aims to raise money for a number of charities working in the field of cancer care, support and research.  The principal partner is Marie Curie Cancer Care, the charity which gives people with terminal illnesses the choice to die at home, surrounded by the people and things they cherish.

  1963 Peel P50 makes £49,500 at Brightwells Classic Car Auction 22 Jul 2018 (News)
  A 1963 Peel P50 single seat microcar (similar to the one driven through the BBC offices by Jeremy Clarkson) sold for £49,500 at Brightwells Classic Car Auction a Leominster on 11th July. With 119 vehicles on offer, bidders came from as far afield as Australia, Israel and Saudi Arabia. Top price of the day was £135,500 paid for an early ‘flat floor’ 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster, recently overhauled by CMC and with the benefit of a later 5-speed synchromesh transmission.

  Despite the 15-year-old renovation, the car presented well and came with its original numberplate. Third place went to a Maserati Merak (£71k), which was once owned by musician Andy Leek of Dexys Midnight Runners. A Rolls-Royce 20/25 (£31k) and a fully-restored MGA £27,500) rounded out the top five.

  No, it just wasn’t for me because my commute involved a motorway and there’s nothing quite like being overtaken by lorries in a blizzard to focus the mind. For me, the right car for winter is one of Swedish origin. I’ve been lucky enough to own a few of Scandinavia’s finest, but one of my favourite was my beloved Volvo 740 Turbo. A Mk1 pre-facelift car, there’s very few of these left now.

  He founded the BTDA – later the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association – built and raced 500cc racing cars, was chairman of BRM, an active member of the RAC Competitions Committee, and one of a trio of businessmen who bought the remains of Aston Martin from the receiver in 1975.   Among other cars on offer at the Bonhams Goodwood Festival of Speed auction is the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 in which five-times Formula 1 World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio won two grands prix on his way to his second World Drivers’ Championship.
