  • 1.6 Petrol 2004 8P - Rattling Exhaust Like Noise Audi A3 8 May 2013 (Forum)
There are no obvious sign of problems with the brakes and the vehicle steering feels OK,  and the engine seems to run fine with no warning lights.  I'm thinking maybe a loose baffle? Or wheel bearing maybe. Heres hoping someone else may have experienced similar with even with and Octavia, Leon or Golf 5?
  • Various - Mercedes Used Parts 27 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend a good place to obtain Mercedes used parts?  The day running light on my Merc SLK has gone and I need to replace it.  The part number is the same as units fitted to C Class, E Class and a couple of other models as well as the SLK. MB want £106+VAT for a new one and I've seen a few on Ebay for around £80 but the sellers won't confirm the part number to me so I'm not buying unless I'm 100% certain the part is correct.

  • Commute around M25 - advice please.. 5 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I have been offered a good new job BUT it will involve a commute around the M25 for about 30 miles - from M40 (J16) anti-clockwise to Leatherhead (J9) each day for a 9am start ...  On a clear run 50 mins and for the interviews it took me an hour either way.  However I want to try and get my head around what kind of journey I could expect if joining at around 715am and coming home around 6pm.
  • Dying from carbon monoxide poisoning 11 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Since the heavy snowfalls in the US there have been two deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning.  http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57568565/mass-boy-dies-of-carbon-monoxide-in-running-car/ Initial reports suggests the tail pipe was blocked with snow.   If that is the case I don't understand how it happened.  There is only one place where the exhaust gases can go and that is through the exhaust pipe.
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate - Instrument panel gone blank 9 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I got this advice from anther page on this site, can anyone confirm it is safe and worthwhile attempting? "Disconnect the earth(negative/minus sign)lead only and run a jump lead > from the detached earth lead to the positve/plus terminal of the battery > and leave it attached for 5 mins. Under no circumstances allow the > detached earth lead to touch the vacant earth terminal of the battery" I have checked the fuses and to the best of my limited knowledge they look OK.
  • Volvo s60 2.4 D5 - Hot starting problem Volvo S60 2.4 D5 4 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Left it for another couple of hours, hooked it up to jump start it and it eventually started again, let it run for 10 minutes or so, stopped it and then it wouldnt start again. The seller is also not being very helpful. Any ideas on what it could be?
  • Volkswagen Polo III - 2001 1.4 Petrol - Temp gauge drops and raises 4 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Is there a temperature sender and if so where will it be located?  Could a faulty sender also cause the engine to run too rich? Your suggestions / thoughts are appreciated.
  • 2006 Citroen BERLINGO 1.6D enterprise - Engine power loss with a warm engine...... 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi there,  We have a problem with our newly purchased 1.6d Berlingo.  When the engine has been running for approx 15mins we have a very annoying fault that is getting worse, we loose power in the engine once warm.  We have changed the air filter, fuel pump, fuel additive to clean.  When put on the computer nothing seems to come up although the garage has now decided that there is an electrical fault and disconnected the 'Muff'.
  • Ford C-MAX - Ding'ed by neighbour, what to tell insurer... 7 Jan 2013 (Forum)
However, what, if anything, do I need to tell my insurer. I'm not making a claim but could I run into issues if, for example, I'm not using a bodyshop on their approved list and I later need to make a claim and haven't told them about work being done?
  • XANTIA HDI 2.0 DIESEL W REG - Warning Light In Temp Gauge + Stop Light 30 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Over the last couple of days the red light in the temp gauge keeps flashing along with the red "STOP" light. After about a minute the flashing stops. the cooling fans also seem to be on constantly when engine running, even with the weather being quite cool The car is not overheating,i have recently changed the coolant and all levels are correct. After trawling the net on this subject i understand its more than likely a bad connection between the brown sensor in the themostat housing & the bitron controll unit (controlls the cooling fans & warning lamps)?
  • Ford Focus Estate - Ford Focus Mk1 - Petrol or Diesel? 27 Oct 2012 (Forum)

  • FIAT PUNTO 2005 - FIAT PUNTO AIR LOCK 16 Oct 2012 (Forum)

  • Daily Telegraph advice - Honest John 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
It will very shortly need a need a diesel particulate filter (£1,000-£1,500), then a dual mass flywheel and clutch (£1,000-£1,500), possibly a turbo (another £1,500) and probably an exhaust gas recirculation valve (£500). Diesels can run reliably and cheaply on a fleet for three years, but contain many potential pitfalls for whoever buys them next.
  • Toyota Aygo - Avoiding insurance claim pitfalls for my daughter 8 Oct 2012 (Forum)
My daughter has just rung to say that someone has run into the back of her car at a roundabout. She has the other drivers details and car reg. and has now continued on her journey, having rung to say that, althoug damaged, the car is still driveable ( it was a low speed shunt, sounds mainly bumper damage) I just wanted to be forwarned about the claim process as I have heard stories about dodgy claims handling companies etc and want her to be aware of any pitfalls.

  • Chrysler Voyager 2.5crd - Car Loses Power 6 Aug 2012 (Forum)
We have a problem with the barrel in the car in that you can remove the key from the barrel and the car will continue to run. This can be done at 3 positions on the barrel. Iwasn't sure if the fault could be related to barrel affecting the immobilizer? If it is, does it mean a new barrel and will I have to go through Chrysler for this.
  • BMW X3 - BMW X3 self started 27 Jul 2012 (Forum)
BMW X3 (wonderful car) , 6 weeks old, was parked, engine stopped (stop/start function), we locked the car and went to an event about 200 yards away.  It was announced at the event that the car engine was running and please return to the car.  The car was still locked when we arrived.  We unlocked the car and stopped the engine. We had the car checked by local agent (very helpful) but they could find no fault.
  • Just when you think you've got a good 'un... 13 Jul 2012 (Forum)
A whine from the timing belt saw me back there today to have the tension reduced, and while he was under the bonnet he noticed the belt is riding off to the side again and the head has been off at some point. Something is out of alignment somewhere, I'm thinking the best option is just to run it for three/four years and replace the timing belt early, and if it lunches itself then it's probably cheaper to fit a second-hand engine than start dismantling the existing one.
