  • What hapens to the Lemons? 19 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The two cases I know of is a backroomer who got an 85% refund on his VW, and a friend of ours who managed to get his Y reg Fiat Multipla swapped for a 51 Reg vehicle by Fiat because of all the trouble he had with the Y reg one. What happens to these cars when they are taken back? Do they simply get fixed then pushed out to some unsuspecting dealer through an auction? Do the main dealers get to sell these cars on as used or do they get reduced to produce for spares and the bits sold though car breakers?
  • Buying/Selling for Profit 22 Apr 2004 (Forum)
    b) How can I check on what rates of tax, national insurance and VAT I'd be liable for? c) How does the DVLA or the Inland Revenue detect if you're buying and selling cars for profit? d) What's the best solution for insurance? e) Am I obliged to offer some form of warranty, or can cars be "sold as seen"? f) Any useful sources of advice/info out there? Really appreciate any help.
  • MINI Clubman D - Difficulty Rejecting Mini 19 Jul 2024 (Forum)
The car was back with MINI and they were arguing about whether this should be covered under the warranty or if they wanted to charge me for it, at which point I told them I wanted to reject the car. They told me I shouldn't make rash decisions like this and to wait until after the repair work was done before we talk about that, I was quite insistent about this but was fobbed off with a promise to look into the warranty side - at which point they very promptly repaired the car.
  • Audi Q2 - Audi Q2 clutch failure & left on suspension blocks 14 Feb 2022 (Forum)
They are blaming the audi approved garage that carried out our service and saying its not upto audi to pay the £1100 to fix this.   So we are facing nearly £4000 in repairs for a 14 month old car, which we have been driving around with the suspension blocks on and a clutch gone and not under warranty due to drivers fault? I just wondered if anyone is able to assist with this as the suspension blocks is nothing to do with us and the car was sold to us like this.

  • Honda CR-V - Car Servicing 25 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I recently bought a CRV, .2 diesel auto, 5 years old with full Honda service history and Honda Warranty for one year. IT was serviced by Honda just before I bought it. On inspecting the car I found the cabin/ pollen air filter to be filthy and long overdue for replacement. I then checked the engine air filter and that too was filthy, the worst I had ever seen.
  • Having paint work scratches repaired 7 Dec 2009 (Forum)
So I was wondering the following: 1) do any of you recommend Chips Away or the such like? 2) If I was to use a non-Audi workshop would this invalidate my paint or bodywork warranty (car is less than 3 years old)? 3) could I get Autoglym out to reapply their polish after an independent place had done the work?
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - What to follow a 2005 Focus with? 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
We're considering changing my wife's 2005 1.6 Zetec Climate 5d Hatch (petrol), shortly (next couple of months). The car will be 3 years old in Sept, and we usually keep our cars within warranty periods therefore <3years. I thought this would be easier than it's turning out to be. I liked the look and idea of a 57 Astra 1.9CDTI Design in Motorpoint, as the price was within budget (about 3-4K on the Focus).
  • 2003, BMW 320D - Smoke! 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
My only point of reference is a Merc C220CDI ? it felt as if the 320D is both faster, and definitely far more economical. The car is still under warranty (till Aug 2006). Should I take it to a dealer to check it out, or is the smoke a 'characteristic' for a car that has sat still for some time? I also have a sneaking suspicion that the former owner has installed a tuning box ?
  • Audi Cabriolet 2.6e 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I am planning on travelling 180 miles tomorrow morning to buy this car. I would be hugely grateful to anyone for anything to look out for on these cars and problem areas. If you have any experience with these cars please let me know what they're like and whether it looks like I've found a good deal.
  • Mazda 6 - Help! Mazda 6, petrol or diesel? 10 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I found a red Mazda 6 2.0 Takuya 2011 that I really took a shine to. Good price, local garage, 3 year warranty thrown in (1 year Mazda, 2 Ford Gold Protect). Now.. I test drove it, and it felt a bit sluggish lower in the rev range. I figured this was just due to me being used to a TDI (1.4 polo 14 years old.. still felt nippier!).
  • 53 Vectra SXI Servicing 22 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, they have refilled the sump with semi synth 10w40 and I queried this with them as it doesn't seem to mention this oil grade in the handbook. The service manager I spoke to said that they use this oil as "in the past" they have had warranty problems with customers topping up with incorrect grade oil.He also advised me that this oil would be perfectly ok to use for up to 1 year or 20k whichever is first.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.6 Advice please on buying this car ? 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have seen a 2003 (53) Ford Focus 1.6 zetec with 37k miles on the clock. It has 2 previous owners and Full service history and 12 months warranty from a Ford garage. However I have a couple of concerns about it. The trouble is the car was first registered in December 2003 and by June 2004 the car had already covered 12k miles and then by about the same time in 2005 the car had then completed about 21k miles.

  • Suzuki Vitara - Should have followed my own advice 17 Sep 2024 (Forum)
This is probably not untypical of main dealers. Even then that’s only to assess it and raise as a used car warranty issue with Suzuki. We will need to take it back a couple of weeks later for the actual repair. Courtesy car is chargeable for both days. In theory I could take it to another Suzuki dealer but we’re in a bit of a Suzuki desert and the nearest one is still 30 mins away.

  • Landrover Freelander - Consumer Rights Act 2015 10 Feb 2017 (Forum)
In October last year I bought a 6 year old Landrover Freelander from a registered car dealer for £15,600. The car was serviced, MOT'd and had a 6 month basic warranty. 29 days later the car broke down on the motorway. From the AA van I called the dealer and asked if I shold get it revovered to him and he told me I could take it to any garge, so I had it recovered to a Jaguar / Landrover specialist that I have used previously.
  • Upto £8k for a new'ish car 28 Aug 2011 (Forum)
[endif]--> Hello everyone just thought I would pop along here and ask for the advice of the forum seeing as I’ve read the reviews and watched the videos on various cars.   I have recently passed my driving test and now that I’ve passed my parents are looking to get a half decent car for me to use and also for my brother to hopefully learn to drive in as well.
  • Garage problems - legal advice needed 14 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Within 2 weeks of us having the car it developed a problem starting. It would take anything between 4 ? 10 attempts to start it. We took the car back to the garage (Independent Renault Dealer) for them to look at. They played around with the car for a few days and claimed to have solved the problem.
