  • Cayenne Diesel S - Ultimate soft roader 13 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Supposedly almost 35mpg combined. All for £58K. Must be cheaper than a RR Vogue-and you won't need to tow a spare car around  for when the Rangie breaks down. No hybrid system or having to sit in parsimonious silence at the lights. Does it come without privacy glass? I think i want one!
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso - Engine re-map 28 Mar 2012 (Forum)
The main reason I am considering this is that I recently bought a caravan (boo, hiss) and I could do with a little extra power when towing. I plan on keeping the Picasso as it really suits me and the family. Any thought would be appreciated. Cheers Alan

  • Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - 05 2.2Dci Restricted Power 8 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I tow a caravan with my deisel XTrail and when accelerating hard with a heavy load on the car suddenly loses power-as if the fuel flow is being strangled. No mis-fires, no juddering, just a power constriction.
  • saab 9-5 2.2 tid 2004 - clutch and/or dual mass fy wheel? 22 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The car has done 90,000 miles. It has never towed. It does do a lot of steep hills! the clutch has started slipping occasionally. Worse in wet weather. Phoning around for prices, some garages say I will almost certainly need a dual mass fly wheel as well.
  • honda crv es 1999 - honda crv 1999 4WD 7 Oct 2010 (Forum)
If on ice, it can happen that the front wheels lose grip and the 4WD propells the car in a straight line.  On grass, towing a caravan, if a front wheel slips, it tears up the grass, not to the amusement of the site owner.   Does anyone know whether it is possible to fit a switch to override the "intelligence" and lock the 4wd in active mode?
  • nissan micra 1997 1L - fault code 11 9 Apr 2010 (Forum)
hi everyone, not posted here before and know almost nothing about cars so please excuse my ignorance. I've just been towed home by the AA. There diagnostics machine came up with FAULT CODE 11 - crankshaft position sensor.  I've no idea what that is myself but the AA guy said its built into the distributor (and that I will need to replace the whole thing) whilst a DIY mechanic friend thought it was elsewhere on the engine.
  • New clamping regime for unpaid Traffic fines(GOC) 29 Dec 2009 (Forum)
If Road Traffic fines remain unpaid the Scottish Courts can now Clamp, tow away and add these costs to unpaid fines................ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/8433618.stm Large Fines are now imposed for most traffic offences and many go unpaid............losing your car to clampers and towaway may improve the cash flow to the courts.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 00 2.0 Upgrading an HDi from 90bhp to a 110 15 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi all I am currently looking to replace my 180k plus Hdi with a lower mileage one. I have found several possibilities but they are only 90bhp and I need the extra power for towing etc. What are the main differences between the 90 and 110, eg intercooler & ecu remapping and what are the possibilities of a competent diy upgrade. I would consider using my 110hdi as a doner vehicle.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2001 1.8 LX - New engine 17 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have been experiencing a number of problems with my car for the last few months, with the engine rattling very badly. Last week the car wouldnt start so I towed it to a garage whom have said it has something to do with no compression when starting (?) as far as I understand. He has been unable to get it started so has suggested a new engine as the best option.
  • Lexus IS/Toyota Altezza 23 Mar 2007 (Forum)
But doing an autotrader National search there are no estate Altezzas - were the estates only made for the european market or people just don't bother bringing the imports in ? (B) The towing limit of even the IS300 is only 1200kg - why so low for a 3.0i car when even a 2.0 mondeo has 1500kg ?? . Is it a transmisson/enngine strength or bodyshell strength issue, or are Ford overoptimistic.
  • how to replace a ball joint? mk3 Fiesta 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I'm thinking I'm gonna have to hammer it out from the top but the drive shaft is in the way to get anything to it. Help would be very much appreiciated, as I'm now stuck with a car in bits that can't even be towed to a garage cause I can't get it back together...
  • "Friendlier" parking rules? 12 Jul 2006 (Forum)
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5170898.stm "Wheelclamping for only the most persistent offenders More transparency and information for road users Dedicated training for those involved in civil parking enforcement A more motorist-friendly appeals process More powers for independent adjudicators when procedures have not been followed properly Regular reviews of parking policies by local authorities Persistent parking offenders targeted through a national database The proposals, which affect England only, are expected to come in by the middle of next year. " Will be interesting to see how it develops... doesn't mention "towing away" though. Tim{P}
  • Audi A4 V6 2.5 tdi starting prob's 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
If the temp's above 30 deg the car won't start the next day, it turns over at the normal speed, but just doesn't fire. This symptom started last summer when it happened a couple of times. On each occasion the car is towed the the Audi dealer where it starts and runs perfectly, with no fault codes logged. It's just done the whole winter without missing a beat, but just started playing up again with the recent hot weather.
  • FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - Garage stripped engine - do I have to pay 12 Dec 2008 (Forum)
During my break, I call another garage (further away, but seem more trustworthy) that I have used and ask for a ball park figure and they tell me it might be as much as £300. I can live with that and tell them I will tow the car down. I get a lift from college to the first garage, (buying a tow rope on the way), when I get there they tell me that my car is in bits the guy looking at it is going to lunch and can I go back for it at 2pm or they can do a bare fix it job, by changing the gasket only if I am just scrapping it and that will be 270.00, they also tell me it is illegal to tow a car with a rope and that I won?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 TDCi - will not start poor fuel delivery? 1 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Been on before on this - for 7 months now, once in a while my Focus 03 plate only 24K miles 1.8TDCi 115PS refuses to start -RAC men says it fuel delivery its been into Ford Dealer had £2000 (yes 2000) of parts fitted new PCM, new fuel pump system etc crankshaft sensor yet still plays up. Then in November it got towed in yet again this time Ford Dealer say 'its fixed' it was a chafed wire under the gearbox, wire part of fuel delivery they said. I battle with Ford Customer relation centre and got £1200 refunded a few weeks ago. think Ive got it sorted then Then it starts to play up again reluctant to start , tonite 28/12/07 had to abandon it at work hope to get it towed to Ford dealer tomorrow.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCI Zetec - Lack of knowledge about engine cover and under tra 3 Sep 2024 (Forum)
Not sure if should have posted this or in general discussion, however, am looking to purchase used model of above car for towing a caravan.  On checking MOT history, this has been a recurring theme over the years. My question then is, when coming across this issue on MOT tests, could this be hiding a significant issue for the car going forward in respect of possibly costly repairs.
  • Citroen C3 Picasso - sudden power steering failure at speed 8 Oct 2021 (Forum)
during this week suffered sudden steering failure on above vehicle , towed to garage confirmed electric steering motor failure, now it seems this component failure is a problem across the PSA Group and Citroen will replace free of charge , so far so good ,..now the main dealer wants to charge me £380 because they cant undo the bolts and need to remove a subframe to complete the work, any advice as to where i stand as i really dont see why  a fully equipped workshop cannot complete the job how it should be done and see fit the charge me additional cost for what is basically incompetence
  • 2003 Ford Focus1.6 auto - Jump starter/battery charger 3 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Yesterday I had started and stopped my car a couple of times and then the engine would not turn over, a garage towed me and fitted a new starter motor. All is working fine now. Although this would not have helped me yesterday I am looking to buy a jump starter and battery charger in case I am away from home and need one.
