Audi Q3 - Car on order with all the things Backroomers hate! 15 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Obviously, for us, it's not an issue, as it's a contract-hire agreement, including servicing, insurance, VED, breakdown cover, tyres etc. A really good deal. Picking it up Friday 10th. I'll keep you posted on whether we have any issues over the coming months. -
VW Golf - Used car dealer - insurance question 28 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Yesterday we rang our insurer and switched over the cover and then drove down to the dealer to collect the car. We had another look at it, cool. We then sat down presuambly to sign the log book and GTFO of there. We then had to sign a half a dozen forms to say we didn't want anything other than the car thanks (finance, gap insurance, breakdown insurance blah blah). -
Car keys 18 Oct 2003 (Forum)
During the summer I went to a car boot sale in the countryside, about 100 miles from home. When we returned to the car (X-reg Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8valve), I discovered I had lost my keys. Naively, I thought a call to my breakdown service would quickly sort this out. -
Repair receipts 29 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I asked for an itemised bill and received a receipt stating; Replace complete cam belt kit + water pump Oil + filter change Repair inlet manifold And a price. No breakdown, parts cost, VAT, brand of kit. I am not in to cars all that much but I trust that some people are however if I found that receipt as a person buying the car in the future I would be skeptical. -
Convince me! 18 May 2012 (Forum)
Of course, if you have any other suggestions, please let me know, and if there's anything in particular you think I should look out for when looking at the Avensis, please do let me know. I've had a quick look at the car-by-car breakdown; very useful, and informative. Sorry for the long post! Many thanks in advance to you all for your help.!! -
Citroen C5 - What would you do in my situation? 18 Nov 2014 (Forum)
The breakdown mechanic looked at the engine. He stated in his opinion the turbo did not look new. The car is now at the main dealer, I have an appointment to test drive a Citreon Berlingo and Renualt Kangoo on Monday. -
landrover discovery 3 56 plate - problems 4 weeks after purchasing 2nd hand car 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
The dealer said the only comment from his friend was that it did need topping up with oil regularly, but on checking under the car there appeared to be no oil leaks. My husband said that he had read that these cars did guzzle oil so that was probably normal. We have driven the car on a couple of uk holidays over the summer and have done about 1000 miles in the car, which had about 70,000 on the clock when purchased. -
Any. - Reasonably priced reliable commuter vehicle. 9 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My main requirements are a car under 4 years old that has 5 doors, air con, ESP, a full array of airbags and a reasonable boot. This car will suffer dents etc due to parking arrangements in loading bays so looks not too important. -
Tales of revenge. 3 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I was looking at or reading a story where a builder got revenge on a non-payer. It brought to mind a nice little episode of mine many years ago. As well as doing club breakdown work and moving classics I also ran a 24/7 advert in the Yellow pages. I got a call one day from a guy who couldn't start, I quoted him the standard fee, about £25 then and went out to him. I thought it a bit suspicious when I saw him with his car, rather than waiting in his house. -
Jeep Cherokee - Consumer rights with used car? 14 Feb 2015 (Forum)
They informed him that it would be covered under warranty but it was our responsibility to get it back to the garage. My partner contact his breakdown service which did not cover this as the would only take the vehicle to the nearest garage unless we upgraded. We took out further breakdown cover at an extra cost of £101.49 to have the vehicle recovered back to the garage where it was purchased from. -
Jaguar X-Type 2.0d 2004 157k - Sod's Law Strikes Again 23 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Cooled down quickly (outside temp 5 deg). Belts in place and working. Called my breakdown and very impressed by them (contractor was Civic Motor Services Swansea). Turned up within 30 minutes (this was 11pm) and guy was personable and knowledgeable. Diagnosed b*****ed thermostat (seemed reasonable to me, but I knew much more about cars when I was poor and ran a M1000) and car quickly recovered to my home. -
Volkswagen Golf V - Mk 5 Golf GT TDI 140BHP Engine Problems!? 8 Jun 2010 (Forum)
, I went and bought a 56 plate (07) Golf GT TDI with 84k on the clock from an auction. It is an ex-company car with full VW service history. I have had to already change the 'Flap' on the Golf (mechanic said something about exhaust gases), which cost me £350.00. There are three things that are worrying me about this car and I need your help as I have a newborn baby and I am worried the car is going to breakdown! -
Nissan Qashqai 1.6dci diesel 2015 - Nissan QQ - multiple dash lights 17 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Around 3 weeks back, while driving had battery light and Red EML appear, and soon after got s/s failure, forward emergency braking light and traction light. I stopped the car and called breakdown and they diagnosed the Alternator was not charging. Had to drive back home 35 miles on battery, luckily made it. Took the car to garage, they also diagnosed the problem with Alternator and replaced it, however, all the dash light were still there. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 TDCi Diesel blown twice - cause / incompete 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Help me please! My wife was driving the Focus down the M5 when she lost all power. She called our breakdown service, which recovered her to a local garage who diagnosed a blown turbo. 5 days, £1000 and a hire car later, we picked up the car and six miles down the road the turbo went again. According to the garage, the new turbo has also blown, and isn't covered by Garrett's warranty because they didn't do the 5.8 1 hour test that is required??? -
Volvo S60 (2010 - ) - Direct injection petrol engine - a good idea? 17 Dec 2008 (Forum)
From HJ's breakdown: "The engine that Volvo Cars has chosen for the Volvo S60 Concept is a four-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol unit using high-efficiency GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) technology and producing 180 horsepower. -
Mondeo corrosion problem 31 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Quite simply, my brother is amazed that Ford can claim that seven Mondeo's can all have corrosion in an identical area, and nowhere else and that a stone could squeeze under the door, right up into a tiny corner and chip the paint, and on both sides too! Now the question is, is this a known problem on Mondeos, certainly there is nothing in the Car-by-Car Breakdown, and have any of you out there experienced the same. Any feedback would be useful as brother is not going to let it lie and I get the feeling he feels a campaign coming on, not for the first time! -
Fiat Punto diesel 2 Nov 2002 (Forum)
OK, so I bought one for the daughter despite HJ's description in the car-by-car breakdown. I had always thought Peugeot diesel was noisy when cold, but the Fiat makes it sound like a sewing machine. Then I discovered you can't drain all the oil out of the engine, as nearly a pint is held in the oil cooler. -
Peugot 306 Air Conditioning 3 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Thinking that it might be wise to renew the short pipe at the same time, as it might not be far behind, they did not have one in stock, " Sell a lot of those mate, got 13 on back order, like rocking horse s..t, don't know when they will be in." I would have expected the pipes to have lasted longer than they have! HJ might be useful for your car by car breakdown. Before I start pulling out pipework has anyone changed the long pipe? I am mystified as to how it joins under the engine mount. It appears to be some form of sliding fit. I hope so because there aint much room to play about in. -
LV Britannia Rescue 14 Nov 2023 (Forum)
The gist of it seems to be saying if one has a flat tyre, flat battery or siezed brakes while the car is 'at home,' dont phone us, use a webform to contact us and tell us what's wrong. Bear in mind, this applies to anyone with home start which is included in the comprehensive cover. So now I wonder just how long will one have to wait for acknowledgement and assistance when requested via a webform that will go to a mailbox for call centre staff to trawl through between actual breakdown calls? -
Honda Civic - Honda service, how to annoy a customer 16 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Then when I took it in, the service manager himself booked me in. He said that the MoT would "only" be £35. I had to point out that, having bought it from them, my car gets free MoTs, as long as they service it. This is in writing as part of tbe sales documentation. On collection the receptionist went through all the paperwork. No free breakdown and recovery cover had been provided even though its part of Honda's long-running service offer.
