Hi there,

I have been having issue with my Nissan Qashqai 1.6dci 2015 diesel. Around 3 weeks back, while driving had battery light and Red EML appear, and soon after got s/s failure, forward emergency braking light and traction light. I stopped the car and called breakdown and they diagnosed the Alternator was not charging. Had to drive back home 35 miles on battery, luckily made it.

Took the car to garage, they also diagnosed the problem with Alternator and replaced it, however, all the dash light were still there. I checked the battery for few days and its voltage was on low side, so I replaced it with EFB096 battery (same as before), however, the dash lights still there.

Took it to Nissan Dealership today, and they couldn't specify the fault. They said it could be the IPDM/ECU, and gave me a quotation of £1,900 to replace these.

Current fault codes:
P0380 - Glow plugs (historic)
U0111 - Communication error
C1130 - Engine signal (I think this is intake air temperature sensor, because this is historic)
C1A26 - ABS (this may be Forward Emergency Braking or Traction)

Lights on Dash - S/S failure, battery light, Red EML light, Anti slip light and forward emergency braking light

I think the main issue is U0111 - Communication error. I have seen many posts on different forums where people had same issues, but seem to resolve this by replacing battery, but it has not worked in my case.

Help please, especially anyone with similar experience. Really frustrating!

Try another independent garage. Based on the thread below, I suspect Renault/Nissan dealers are under pressure to charge for unnecessary work and will just keep feeding you a line

Did they clear the codes after they'd run the diagnostics?

Maybe worthwhile joining a dedicated Nissan forum and looking to see if there are others with similar problems and hopefully a solution. While a dealer would replace the ECU, generally they can be reprogrammed if the power supply issues have corrupted the firmware.

U codes are related to network communication issues. It’s possibly an ipdm faulty or a wiring problem. Needs proper investigation, not guess work .

if the IPDM is faulty, is it possible for the car to run normal? All the electronics work fine.

Yes . The integrated power distribution module supplies voltage and signals to various modules. Is there actually a problem with the car?

There isn't. The car runs fine, all electronics work fine. Its just frustrating and annoying seeing so many dash lights, and no one seem to know whats causing it. Nissan dealerships was doing guessing game and said we can try by replacing ECU and IPDM, quoted £1900, are you joking.

Unfortunately main dealers generally don’t employ techs with enough knowledge or experience. It’s a guessing game for them for sure . Is there any Nissan or Renault specialist nearby ?

I was the foreman in a Nissan Dealer

PO380 and U0111 Both mean nothing so forget them

I would check that the DPF is not blocked and the valve in the exhaust is working this was very common problems the trouble is a lot of people look at fault codes and then try and sort out these issues when they are not the main issue. A good diag machine will be able to tell you what the soot level of the DPF will be. What area are you in ?

Thanks for your reply.

I cleared the exhaust pressure sensor last week. It was blocked but eventually when I cleaned it, I could feel burst of air coming out of it. Then I took the car on motorway and drove for about 40 miles at 70mph to clear DPF.

My main concern is that battery light is still on after replacing alternator and battery, and as per Qashqai's service manual the car throws red engine management light whenever there is a problem with charging system.

The new alternator and battery seem to be working fine and the battery voltage overnight is 12.6, and alternator provides 14.23 when the engine is running.. The car runs fine.

I am based in Walsall, 20 mins away from Birmingham.
