  • Sat Nav 4 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I just need a UK, pretty basic model.  The tomtom all seem to have 3 months free speed camera updates and the garmin have life time updates.  I'm not sure how much this will matter.  Would welcome opinions for a novice sat naver!
  • "The Joy of Motoring" BBC2 7pm 29/11 3 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Tonight at 7pm - "Tristram Hunt shows how motoring has gone from allowing us to explore the beautiful English countryside to the present day of speed cameras, congestion charges and environmental issues. Along the way, he looks at different cars through the ages that define a decade and a generation."
  • Google earth - Opel Astra? 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/cu9qv7 The picture on this link shows an Opel badge on the front of a Google earth camera car with a UK registration. Is it possible to buy a RHD Opel Astra? An acquaintance had an Opel Corsa, but only because he got his rellies in OZ to send him the badges. I suspect the V5 said Vauxhall.
  • CCTV has its uses 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
from the BBC website A car thief who had his name and date of birth tattooed on his neck was caught after CCTV images of him were used to track him down. The car had been left by Avon and Somerset Police officers with a covert camera concealed inside Not the sharpest tool in the box!
  • Speeding ticket in EU reg car? 28 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hi Can the UK police / DVLA pursue speeding tickets from 'safety cameras' when they flash a car from another EU country? Are they able to hold a driver until they pay a fine like the french if plod pulls them in person? I am specifically thinking of a German reg car.
  • How long to get licence back? 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
As some will know I got nabbed by a camera at a traffic light for alledgedly jumping a red signal. I took advice, did not contest it, paid £60 and posted off my licence. This was two weeks ago now. How long is it reasonable to wait for its return (with the 3 points added)?
  • Insurance and penalty points 6 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Surely once you have 3 or 6 points from speed cameras ( for like 34mph in a 30 limit ....) you are a safer driver than before? Because you'll drive a bit more carefully, So why the extra insurance premium? Are there any insurance companies out there targeting this market?
  • Anyone used Cyclops DSafety system? 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Apologies if this may have been covered before, but I was just wondering whether anyone has had much experience of using the Cyclops GPS-based Driver Safety system? It appears to be a new way of "discovering" speed cameras and is all above board. Does it do the job well and realistically? Thanks. RB
  • Big brother on the M3? 17 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Arrgh! Does anyone know what those cameras are for on the M3 southbound at Winchester? One set just before the junction, one set on the junction (pointing back down the slip road) and one set approx. 200m after the junction. I was going a little fast - a momentary lack of concentration (does this sound familiar?).

  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - 09 1.6 Audio Unit 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)
In the Handbook (8M2J-19C 104-DA 05/08) there are 9 audio units displayed on page 4,5 but none represents the one in my car and there is no indication of any model/name anywhere on the unit. 1.Does anyone know what it is and how to find a correct manual? 2. Before, I used a Tom Tom 500 with speed camera detection program, but I don?t want to carry the bulky TT500 around anymore, could I use the same SD card in the Ford?s navigation system? 3. Or, will I be able to install a Speed Camera Detection program to the Ford SD card, which came with the car?

  • Have I Got My 3 Points? 15 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Ordinarily, I don't over speed with speed camera around or not. This afternoon while on an outing with my family with some interesting discussion, I unwittingly increased my speed to between 36 to 37miles per hour on a 30 miles per hour on a dual carriage road.
  • Dealing with speed traps - GPS gadgets? 15 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Always on a busy dual carridge way rather than near a school, and always when your going down hill. Anyway.....I have TOMTOM5 on my pda with the camera database on it but I only tend to plug that in when doing on a long journey or a new place. Most of my journeys are in the local area. Therefore I am looking for some sort of GPS gadget that will alert when I break the limit.
  • The irony of it... 19 Dec 2006 (Forum)
On my way between here (Hemel Hempstead) and my girlfriend's house near Oundle a week ago last Saturday, I was using the "scenic" route that consists, roughly, of M1, Olney, Wellingborough, Thrapston. As I left the latter, heading north, I noticed a mobile speed camera van parked on the verge on my right, back towards south-bound traffic. I'm normally pretty comfortable about obeying speed limits and my first thought was for the unfortunate guy hurtling south towards me and the camera.
  • Head-on collision: video clip 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
In my case, the other driver was on the wrong side of the road and had no insurance. The police weren't interested; and it was in the days before I had a flash camera phone (which I could have used to photograph the other car on the wrong side of the road after the accident). Has anyone got any thoughts on the feasibility of installing grille-mounted (or dashboard-mounted) video cameras?
  • Fast cars - why bother? 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Most of the time we suffer from a 30mph dawdle along congested routes; and when the roads free up there seem to be cameras all over the place. Even in France the Police seem to be getting stricter on speeding. Maybe this is a good thing but it seems to make fast cars a bit pointless.
  • Britain's Worst Road 15 Feb 2005 (Forum)
In another case in the West Midlands the Council's suggested answer to assist children crossing a major dual carriageway on their way to school was to install speed cameras, not a crossing as the accident stats suggest this is not what is needed - how does a speed camera stop traffic to allow people to cross? When the reporter asked the highways engineer to cross the road they were asked to stop filming!
  • Red Light Offence 19 Dec 2004 (Forum)
i went through a red light." Now i heard from a friend that maybe if they dont have a calibration certificate for the camera they are not allowed to prosecute me. (This would also mean that the camera may have made a mistake) So, i sent a letter to the traffic criminal OCU (London) asking for a copy of this certificate.
