I recently bought the Mio 688 and like the superb picture quality along with all the extra safety features mentioned in Honest John's very informative review.
This really is a useful gadget in my view and well worth getting the 688. Although I'm not sure if touch screen on the 658 is a good idea as it may be tempting to fiddle with when driving. In any case, there is a warning telling you not to fiddle with such devices when driving.
Unfortunately after a couple of days of use the device froze and would not switch off.
I wrote an email to Mitac and got a superfast response. And I must add how helpful their team is!
It turns out that the 32GB SD card I had installed was not a compatible Class 10 SD Card! These dash cams are not compatible with Ultra, Extreme or high speed SD cards. Mitac do recommend class 10 for the 600 series and the following brands : Adata, SD, Kingston, Transcend or Sandisk as long as they''re neither Extreme or Ultra!
I'm also not sure how well these devices will stand up to long exposure in hot sun or if it's wise to leave on view when the vehicle is unattended.
