Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.9 TD Engine blow up 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Just had the engine blow up (con rod through cylinder block) on this car, wondered if anyone any idea what could have caused it. It was lumpy and smoky at start, been like this for a month - thought it was glo plugs and was just about to change them - is this the cause. -
Legacy Electrics Susceptible to Interference 1 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi-my car sudddenly doesn't like where I park it. The key fob won't open the door and whilst turning the key lights up the dash and air-con etc work fine, I can't start it. Had the RAC out and using a hand held device of some sort he found something was interfering with the signal from the fob. We rolled the car about 1o metres away and it started fine. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 2002 2.0 Electrical gremlins? 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Had this 406 HDI since August 2008, Model = Rapier Estate HDI (110), Recently it has had a tendency to switch on the front fog lights on it's own and if I do not switch them off it will also switch on the rear fog light, The air con is ok whilst in motion but not when stationary (I think that the A/C colling fan is not working) looked at the relays and a gave the terminals a clean but no change. Latest thing is the hazard lights activated when braking heavily to avoid a side road pull out. -
Motor Show 2008 exhibitors 20 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'm considering travelling up to Docklands to attend Motor Show 2008. I was quite impressed with the 2006 show, although in the summer heat, the air con/ventilation was struggling badly. Reviewing the list of exhibitors on the official site, there appear to be a few notable absences. For example: BMW (they had a large outdoor stand in 2006, but I believe had previously not got involved at the NEC). -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2007 1.6 Zetec - query about dash warning light 23 Nov 2007 (Forum)
As the car came with no owner's handbook I have no idea what this light signifies. I thought perhaps it may have something to do with the air con but I'm probably wrong. Can someone help please? -
Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - yr 2004 - Diesel Fumes inside car 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I've had the car in at the garage for the last couple of days but they can't find evidence of any leks etc. Cleaned out the Breathers? and treated the air con - but still smells. Goes away when moving but returns when sitting in traffic. With the bonnet up there is a really strong smell in the engine bay - off side close to bottom of windscreen. Anybody got any ideas what I can check? -
Pug 306 engine removal 9 May 2007 (Forum)
I have a 1995 306 turbo diesel (no air con) that needs the cambelt renewing and all the advice is that it is a bit of a fiddly job requiring engine mounts being removed etc. Ideally I would like to renew the water pump at the same time but that would probably make the job even more difficult so I am considering removing the engine and gearbox altogether, fitting a new belt, water pump and clutch whilst I'm at it. -

Very noisy Power steering Mondeo help 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Just had a look and when you turn the wheel it makes a loud groining noise. Also it sounds a bit rattlely under the bonnet coming from the front left side under the Air Con pump where i have the belt and pulley I'm guessing for the injector pump. Now would i be right by guessing the Steering pump is knackered?. If so any idea what it's like to fit or worth it? I only paid £250 for the car a year ago but until today it's been great. -
306 coolant fan with aircon 15 Nov 2006 (Forum)
on a motorway journey in traffic i noticed my temperature rising to over 100 degrees and the fans would not work so i put the heater on full blast until i could get off. The car has air con but at the minute isnt working as it needs gassing after the condenser is replaced. (dont know if this affects it or not)? I was wondering what tests i could do to test. I know theres a briton sensor involved in the aircon and coolant fan but i dont know much about it. -
Ideal used car for me? 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I'm looking for some suggestions on what to buy next year - around September/October time. The budget will be around £7500. Has to be an auto as that is all I can drive, must have decent air con and needs to be an MPV. Although there is only two adults and 1 child we really struggled with our luggage fitting in the boot of the Scenic this year, we will be joined by more children next year! -
What constitutes an insurance mod 23 Jun 2005 (Forum)
With German cars, BMW, Merc, Porsche, no optional extras gets you a very agricultural vehicle so you end up adding bigger alloys, air con, metalic paint, leather et al. Are these "factory fitted" options considered by insurance companies as "modifications". I'm not talking about 12ft bat wing spoilers and 27 inch alloys the max power boys do. -
what to buy with £11,000 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Warranty Direct points towards Mazda (we have one already but too soon to judge its reliablity) but are they to be trusted ? I want at least 1.5 engine with air con. I thought a Mazda 3 or a Civic be best. Any advice ? -
Toyota Yaris or Nissan Micra 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The Yaris seems to get the best reviews for small Automatic car, but at near £10K for the 3 dr 1.3 T Spirit, this is very steep. The new Nissan Micra 3dr 1.2S auto seems to have all the kit and can be purchased for £7660. Air con and alloys don't really bother me. Is the Micra a good car in general and is the new auto any good? they have done away with the CVT box, which needed costly repairs after 40-50K? For a normal 4 speed unit. -
Cost To Change? 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Experts, I'm shortly going to be attempting to do my best impression of a Wrong Car Right Car contestant. Wrong Car - Ford Ka3 '98. Metallic silver 15k miles. Air con, alloy wheels - standard Ka3 spec etc. all in very good nick. Right Car - Seat Leon Cupra June '02. Metallic blue 11K miles. Southampton main dealer Seat. Main dealer warranty etc.. (won't tell you the forecourt price as thats spoiling it) What should I looking to aim for as my target cost to change (i.e my car + £???). -
Auction Success 10 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi all I just thought I would let you know that after ceaseless searching I have finally managed to secure the bargain that I wanted. I have just bought a 98 'R' Mazda 626 with 103k (warrantied) with air con, cl etc for the princely sum of £1650 at auction today. the car itself is filthy, so needs a good valet. I will also change the oil, filters and timing belt asap, but otherwise is a good car, with no sign of bodywork or paint jobs and no big scratches or scrapes. -
Overheating 30 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Still having trouble with my 306. After driving for between five and six miles on a morning, with air con & internal recirculation both turned on and the heater on full, the car temp gauge is almost hitting the red bar. If I'm on the motorway and it goes up to the red bar I can bring the temperature down by braking sharply, or speeding up!! -
New old-shape Vectra 1.8LS for £8100 OTR 19 Nov 2002 (Forum)
There's a reputable vehicle wholesale company (I'll not mention the name for the time being) offering brand-new old-shape Vectra 1.8LS 5dr hatches with metallic & air-con for £8100 OTR inc. road-tax. I presently own an aging Vectra 1996/P 2.0GLS 16V 5dr with 67,000 miles. A trade-in value has been offered at £2100 for my car, which I think is pretty good. Question is, is it worth buying an old-shape model (I can't see how it can be worth paying £6000 more for the new-shape over the older model?) -
