  Could this be an Ecu problem. Is it recognising there is no lift pump? If so why did I drive it for an hour previously? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks. Steve.

   I’ve a Fiesta Zetec Mk5 on an 03’ plate, low mileage, and ever since I’ve owned it, I’ve had this niggling problem with the steering. Hard to explain, but if you drive over things like cats eyes, or small cracks, imperfections in the road, then the steering wheel twitches from left to right. Not great amounts, but it’s enough to drive you bonkers, and know it’s not natural.

   This time however I was able to jump start the car OK and the error message went away.  The only issue I've noticed on the rest of the drive was that my driver side windo would only move in small movements and wouldn;t shut automatically when the car was locked.   the AA checked the alternator, which was fine, and just suggested I get a new battery which I will do today.

  I have also had a look at a  2010 1.6 petrol Suzuki SX4, which I tested but found I needed to get used to the higher driving position. Is the quality of the 2010 SX4 similar to the 2010 Lancer and  would you say the 2008/9 Mazda 3 is higher in quality and reliability than the other two?

  the van seems to drive fine at high speed,even though the light comes on at approx 50mph? i have booked the van for a tech2 fault test this week,but was wondering if any of you guys could give me some advice before the dealer starts saying it needs a new ecu etc.

    Again, thanks to what I learned here, I knew a diesel would be wrong.  I really had the drive to experience CVT - apart from diesel related noise, it seemed fine to me. An unrelated thought was how much of main dealer prices go to support plush premises and receptionists making coffee for customers - nice but not needed.

  Start Rant Is it just me, but if I had a very modest budget, I would be thinking budget brands.   There are peope in the Back Room who drive very nice cars, but one assumes that they can afford to buy/lease and run them.  I can afford to drive cars which cost a lot more than my S-Max, but it suits my purpose and at the moment, I can find better things to do with my money.

  132K miles, gently driven at 60 - 65 mph for fuel conservation, on cheap diesel. Got a few fault codes recently which are apparently typical of my boring driving style. I examined an identical but younger engine in the scrap yard, and I expect mine, like it, has a coked up intake, EGR valve etc. etc. We reap what we sow. On advice from this HJ and my mechanic, I have already started (a) using BP Ultimate diesel (b) redlining it when I can to blow it out (c) accelerating harder and (d) generally driving faster.

    I have not noticed any issues in performance and it has been driving fine.  My main concerns are that sometimes there is a faint car smell of something burning its very faint and goes away quickly.

  Its almost a "harmonic balance " thing - bit like when you can get pipe hammer in your house copper central heating pipes at certain water pressure/flows. She's not even aware of it (and I wont tell her) and I suppose it may disappear in time when a drive belt or something settles down but I would like to further my education if anybody has any ideas.   Isn't there any obligation on the pick up driver to be going at a reasonable speed, particularly at a 90 degree bend, and paying sufficient attention to driving conditions and other road users to avoid scraping the sides of a car parked in the street?

  Hi, Just wanted to get some advice about my car. Recently had an issue with my cambelt. The glow plug light came on while driving and so I turned the car off but it wouldn't start again, just turned over upon inspection it seemed the cambelt cog wasn't attached properly and worked it's way loose, eventually mangling itself and breaking through the cambelt cover.

  Can anyone help me as to what it maybe??? The light comes on and the car appears to lose power but will drive very slowly ....   Should I be looking for something with low mileage to ensure optimum reliability, or opting for a higher mileage vehicle because I know I won't be adding too many extra miles to the total over the next year or two? Also, are there any advantages/disadvantages to automatic transmission if it will be used to drive through water- and snow-covered lanes?   This CRV will essentially be a 'functional workhorse' – but it would be nice for it to be a comfortable and relaxing drive too...

  The garage have now taken the car back for inspection and I suspect they are going to  fix the ball joint under the part warranty but may charge me for the drive shaft. Could you advise me on my rights here please Thanks in advance Steve

  I then got a tow bar fitted at another garage and when I collected the car they told me that the new spring was unsafe to drive with as it was not original and had only 3 coils, where as the original Nissan spring has 5 coils. They pointed out that the car was not level so would be even more dangerous if I was to tow with it.
• Honda Civic - Honda Civic sloshing fuel in tank 27 May 2013 (Forum)
  While I am generally happy with the car, I have one major gripe: when the fuel tank is over 2/3s full, I can hear the fuel slosing around in the tank! This isn't a problem when I'm driving on the motorway, but is quite annoying when driving around town, as I speed up and slow down the fuel sloshes and clumps around the tank. My wife certainly wasn't too pleased to hear this after spending over £20k on a car!
