  I have a 1997 Vauxhall Omega 2.5V6 Auto, and up until now it has been fine - but over the weekend I got the 'Coolant Level' warning on the trip computer (and I had filled it up just the day before). I looked at the level later that evening and it was full. Driving the car on Monday, I had the same message come up several times, and I also noticed that the temperature gauge went from zero to about the halfway mark in about 10 minutes (while my BMW takes about 20minutes or so).

  Four days ago I detect that the hose that goes from the radiator to the engine was disconnected (I was driving at 50 mph and hear an extrange noise from the engine and then I pull my car out of the road and smell an horrible odor (coolant) ). I wait for the hose to cool then I reconnect it and refill the coolant. I started my car and everything seems normal. Since that moment I note that the engine generates an extrange vibration, like it is working in 3 cilinders or something like that.

  Was sitting waiting for SWMBO to meet for lunch when I noticed some steam coming from the engine. Opened the bonnet and found it was mostly white where coolant (I assume) has squirted all over the engine bay. There's a small fracture in the rubber pipe that is on the top right of the engine and this is where it's escaping from. I've posted a picture of the problem click here . or http://www.btinternet.com/~harkis/help.html I just need to know what the pipe is (it seems to end up at the radiator) and how much I could expect to pay to have it repaired at an independent.

  Hi to everyone! I have a '96 1.9TD, over the last couple of days the coolant temp has started fluctuating quite fast between 80 and 90 on the gauge upon acceleration/swifter driving at any speed. Returns to 80 at more constant speed/standstill within a minute or two. Rad/pipes are hot so I assume the thermostat (~1yr old, opens at 83?)

  Previous owner (family member) kept topping up with water..............:( I have replaced the radiator via the manual but noticed the new coolant stayed in the resevoir. So, I changed the thermostat, still no joy. I admit to being an amateur, but need to know what else I can check. Coolant pump? Sensors? How do I test the system? Your help would be appreciated.

  Hi, noticed corsa was loosing coolant the other day, checked it over found coolant running down front of block from head gasket. my question is are the head bolts reusable, and does the cam carrier have to come off, the head bolts seem to be on the outside of carrier. also does the water pump rotate to tension the cam belt or is there a seperate tensioner.

  I just recently changed the thermostat in my freelander and parked it up for a while. I decided to start using it and filled it with coolant, as the engine gets warm, pressure starts to build in the headertank and as it gets hot the coolant start to escape through the cap, but the radiator is stone cold. The top hose that goes into the rad is piping hot and the bottom hose is cold as well.

  Overheating. water & steam from exhaust, steam bubbling from radiator immediately on starting....compression down on 2 cylinders....removed head....gasket surprisingly intact but obviously leaking between 2 of the combustion chambers and the coolant channels....pitting corrosion in head in these areas...questions are: Should I just replace with a reconditioned head or would it be cheaper to dismantle the head and have it repaired in a local machine shop and then rebuild and why has this happened at only 140,000 miles when I have had the car from new (petrol 8v 1.2) and changed the coolant every two years?

  I know it's a perennial thread, but I would be interested to learn any latest experience of Backroomers with parked car heaters, whether of the Kenlowe variety (in-line coolant heater powered from the 240V mains), or Webasto (burns the car's own fuel in an auxiliary heater). As I understand it both types heat both the coolant and vehicle interior, but the Webasto unit is stand-alone - doesn't need a mains connection and can be remote controlled or even phone controlled.

  I have been going through about a lire of oil every 800-1000 miles, and Havr recently noticed that my coolant level has dropped, COuld this be a head gasket problem? There is no white gunk around the oil or coolant caps, but it does get a decent motorway run (150 miles) most weekends. The car is a Y reg Punto MK2 1.2 8v and has covered 24000 miles.
