Insurance (Lack of) Question 5 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone help with the likely outcome of the scenario below. My son's mate is 22 years old. He has his own car which is insured fully comp. He was at a 'do' with his parents last week and agreed, once there, to drive his dad's car home so his dad could have a drink. Although son is not named on Dad's insurance, they both (son and his dad) thought that he would be covered third party by son's insurance. -
Volkswagen VR6 20 Dec 2024 (Forum)
As these are the lifeblood of the internet, I thought I would share: Some Porsches (maybe other cars too, I think it was a first generation Cayenne in this case) have an engine with 'V6' stamped on the cover. Underneath is a VW VR6. This has triggered a squabble with three opinions: 1. -
Vauxhall Astra MKV - Wingmirror Fitment 4 Jun 2018 (Forum)
My car recently failed its MOT due to not having a wing mirror cover (amongst other things). I thought this would be an easy fix but this is proving to be an absolute nightmare. When entering my Reg number into popular online buying sites the replacement part it shows me simply doesnt fit my astra although it fits others that are the same make. -
passat 2.0 2003 - crankcase vent pipe 18 Jan 2011 (Forum)
After topping up i took the plastic cover which sits over the coil packs and found that someone had severed the crankcase pipe at the point where it joins the engine and where it joins the air pipe, at this point they had wrapped insulating tape over the opening.Could any one tell me why they would have done this and would it be the reason why it has used all of the oil , i should also say that the car had a oil change before it was handed over to me. -
Will this damage my tyre? 6 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I started to fill up but found that the pump was running very very slowly, I seemed to be standing at the pump for ages when suddenly fuel started pouring out from the car's filler pipe, I stopped filling immediately but diesel spilled out all down the bodywork and covered my rear tyre/alloy. The nozzles auto cut off hadn't worked for some reason, I told the staff in the station who said they would close the pump and cover the spill with sand. -

Norwich Union recovery quote 3 May 2005 (Forum)
My RAC cover came up for renewal, so I thought I'd look around for other quotes. At the NU site, you have to fill in a lenghty form (for the marketing boys, I guess), and even though I wanted 'personal' cover, it still asks for type and age of car, and annual mileage. -
VW Golf TDI Gearbox fault or Clutch? 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I managed to drive it down to the dealers in 3rd gear but their first diagnosis was 'Sounds like the Clutch' . Is that possible? I hadn't had any slippage before or now & the car does go into 3rd & 4th OK. I hope it's not the clutch because that may not be covered by the warranty. Any ideas? Regards Mike L -

Cycle Carrying Idiots 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I just love the idiots who drive cars with about four cycles tied on the back. With all these cycles wheels staggered they do a wonderful job of obscuring all rear lights. Regulations lay down the size and position of these lights only for them to be covered up by cycle wheels. -
Volvo C70 - Advice RE used car dealer 14 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I collected it on the friday afternoon and drove it home from Birmingham to Coventry, then I took my partner out for a quick drive, I had covered a total of 41.8 miles and had the car for 3 hours before the cam belt snapped. i contacted the dealer who cam straight away to collect it and promised to get it repaired. he has now had the vehicle for three weeks and has apparently had to remove the head and replace all of the valves, valve seats and seals etc and has now said that as there warrenty does not cover cam belts i will have to pay £195 towards the cost of the repair and a further cost for new oil filter and oil.I would welcome advice on what to do now, i will have to pay for now as i need my car as i have been unemployed for a few months and start a new job on monday. Thanks Madguy -
I'm a dealer and need some advice re: problem car 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi guys Wondered if you can help regarding a problematic vehicle. I recently sold an 8 year old car in august that had only covered 36k miles with a full service record. I sell all of my cars with what I consider to be a decent quality warranty through a third party company and made sure this vehicle was no exception. -

I am thinking about buying an early 90's MX5 as a weekend toy (though might use it for commmuting to work sometimes). It will be garaged, be a 2nd car and only cover about 3000 miles a year, so will it quallify for classic car insurance ? Also, any advice on what to look out for on an early MX5, would be gratefully received. -

Mazda CX-7 - Let down by Mazda customer service. 19 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I wrote letter to Mazda customer service in UK about problem I got as well as RECAL for those engines with same problems. Mazda refused to cover the cost of 700 pounds and reason for that is the services weren’t done on time! It shouldn’t matter as this is ENGINE FAULT and mazda should cover it! Decided to go ahead and After paying 700 pounds I went back to Mazda Tamworth and hit them with bill and complain that they didn’t check properly my car. -
Alfa Spider - dead car battery after purchase of second hand car 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Does anyone know if the sale of Goods Act ( i.e. the car being not fit for purpose) covers buying a second hand car from a dealer, when the next day after the sale, the battery had to be replaced because it was at the end of its 'life' and would not start the car following a frosty morning?
