Seat Leon Mk 1 TDI - Puff of white smoke on cold start-up 9 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I did wonder if perhaps the glow plugs were suspect but the car starts pretty much immediately even at subzero temperatures. Could it be a leaking injector or another issue? I've used BG244 fuel system cleaner and Millers Diesel Power Plus in the car previously but I guess it did nothing for the smoking issue. Has anyone else here had experience of this issue with the VW 1.9 TDI engine? -
Mitsubishi Carisma - Intermittent misfire/hesitation at low revs 7 Apr 2013 (Forum)
It also can appear (but not often) at lower speeds and lower gears again in the same rev range with low-mid throttle application. The car drives fine 99% of the time and is quite willing. I havent notice any drop in fuel or oil consumption. .I have checked the air filter, intake box and flexi intake pipe for signs of leaks and read the codes of which none show. I guess it could be the spark plugs and leads but I thought i would check here for expert advice on what to try first. -
2002 Ford Focus TDCi 115 - Lumpy idle after injector recode 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
After the 30 seconds from starting, the car runs and performs perfectly. To note, I cleaned and blanked the egr a few months back, the fuel filter is changed every year (last in december) I use super (non supermarket) diesel, the cam sensor has already been changed and the glow plugs are only about a year old. Anyone have any ideas???? -
Volkswagen Golf IV TDI - Golf TDI shopping Dilemas 1 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I've driven shoping trolley's of cars for years untill they fall apart. so even a low priced Golf is going to feel like luxury to me. So is this a good plan on fuel costs (12,000 a year mostly country lanes or motorway)? Is buying a mint S Reg 180K IV with proper service history, and recent cambelt for £1500 too risky on other big stuff going wrong? -
Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - 2000 1.8T - Shuddering/misfiring - Help! 23 Feb 2013 (Forum)
He was so sure of this that he never charged me for any of his lenghty tests, and I duly chugged to the dealership...Not looking forward to that conversation in the future... I run the car on good fuel, V-power, and have done for 6 months with no problems. Plugs replaced 10k ago with last service. Any thoughts? Help? Thanks for listening, Clach -
Nissan Micra K11 - Car Shuts off Immediately. Cannot start properly 20 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I turn the key to On, and the car starts up and starts as it should, but as soon as you take your hand off the key, it just shuts off immediately and the key goes back. I'm pretty sure all my fuses are OK and I have half a tank of fuel! I have not checked the spark plugs, would it be something like that? -
Ford Fiesta - Fiesta 1.4 TDCi won't start 22 Jan 2013 (Forum)
The other mechanic changed the High Preasure pump and it still won't start. He told me to try a different diesel fuel - I live in Hungary - because we have some -25C at night here and the regular diesel is so bad here, it will get frozen or something. So i did. The next day it started up hardly without pumping and the same day at night but 2 days later this morning it did it again! -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.4 Mad Electrics and Cutting out 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
On starting the other morning I drove away and could feel a misfire, a short distance later the temperature, fuel, rev and speed gauges started dancing all over the place, I had the lights on, and they went out, and eventually she cut out completely. On trying to restart she wouldn't even fire at first, but after a few mins standing she eventually fired up, still with misfire but kept going long enough to struggle back home with plenty of revs! -
ford focus 1.8 Tdci 2003 - Poor restart lack of power 20 Nov 2012 (Forum)
It has just been serviced by myself new oil, air filter, fuel filter cam sensor with upgraded wiring and new crank sensor. The crank sensor was fitted by just taking out the old one and replacing with the new. Should I have set top dead centre? Any info would be greatly appreciated. -
Volkswagen Up 2012 3 door - TakeUpreview 10 May 2012 (Forum)
If you do not cover many miles, then the Polo might be a better proposition as the interior is a step or two up in terms of quality, but since I do 60 miles a day (30 miles each way), fuel economy is a must. And I do like small cars, as they are more fun to drive, and easier to park in cities. VW have made a few compromises to reduce the build cost, and some of these might be a turn off. -
Volkswagen Golf - Help sought from someone more knowledgable than me 27 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I took a 2002 Jeep Chevrolet for a drive the other day it was really nice I was suckered in by the leather interior and American styling. However I've been advised against as parts will be expensive not to mention fuel. I like the Mercedes A class But my local mechanic says they can be a nightmare with the need to take the whole engine out to get to parts. I don't know what to go for! Many thanks for reading this gigantic and very Boring post!! -
various - VAG CR diesel maintenance costs 23 Feb 2012 (Forum)
The VED for a VAG 2.0TDI in a Golf is £30 per annum, against £130 for a Golf 1.4TSI, so a £1000 saving over 10 years. Whilst diesel pump prices are notably higher, a diesel is approx. 30% more fuel efficient than a petrol of comparable power output. Diesel belt-cam changes are £500 a pop, every £60K or 4 years. So budget £1500 for the 10 years Is it the DMF that will be the big expense then? -
BMW 325i May 2010 E90 3.0 litre - BMW 325i (E90 3.0) - noisy at idle 22 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I took it back to my local dealer a week ago and they said the coil was OK but gave it a software upgrade which has made no difference. Not sure if this is relevant, but as well as being noisy the fuel consumption is pretty poor - I realise any 3.0 litre petrol 6 pot will have a bit of a drink problem but this averages less than 20 mpg around town (my 6 cyl IS250 was more like 25). Any advice on the noisy idle? -
VW Passat 2.0 sports TDi - Help with next service button AND multi-functional 7 Aug 2011 (Forum)
(ii) I also have a large mutli-functional display screen on the dashboard which shows the warning lamps in the upper part and miles left in the fuel tank and temperature etc in the lower part (when the ignition is on/engine off in Position 2). However, following the manual's instructions, I have tried using the extra buttons on the wiper and rocker switch to bring up the menu and settings for things like winter tyres, next service, coming/leave home functions, etc in the upper display. -
Ford Focus TDCi "03" Reg. - Engine Management System 10 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I restarted the engine, the EMS light went out and I was able to drive 35 miles to a Ford dealership with no problems. The dealership did a "diagnostic" on the car and found that the fuel filter (replaced in the previous 2 years) needed to be replaced and they did this. I drove a further 450 miles including motorway driving hassle free. On a later journey at high speed, the car gave a large stutter and the EMS light came on again although the engine did not cut out. -
Whats the right car? 27 May 2011 (Forum)
I currently drive a ford mondeo ghia x 2.5 V6 and to be fair even though its lovely to drive it is murdering me on running costs. I am 22 so insurance is stupid, fuel prices are on the rise so you cant afford to have a heavy foot which is what fast fords are made for, and the government are tight fisted so road tax is stupid. Simple solution you might think, get a small car and/or diesel. -
Vauxhall Tigra - 1998 - Large amounts of grey / black smoke from the exhau 13 May 2011 (Forum)
Anyway the issue im havin now is when I start up the car alot of smoke comes out of the exhaust (greyish colour), it seems to clear slightly once im going but as soon as I stop in traffic etc its blowing out again, which is pretty embarrsing and no doubt choking the people in the car behind me :-(. The smoke doesnt have a strong smell really and I dont get a fuel smell etc in the car. Please codul someone advise me if they think this is an issue with the repairs I have had done or if its likely to be further work? Also if this is further work would you know approx if this is going to be a procey issue? -
Hyundai ix35 - Ecomony Figures 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
After about a week I went for a run and the car was indicating 42mpg, however since then the next 2 tanks full of fuel have both only averaged 34mpg. Hyundai UK said the engine needed 500 miles to bed in, while the suppling dealer said 2K. The Aftersales Manager also said he was getting the low 30's in his company IX35. -
2006 GT TSI 170BHP - VW Golf Mk 5 ABS ECU Pump Light On! 21 Apr 2011 (Forum)
They were bugging me all over the Winter and I have finally got around to getting them seen to. Anyhow, I got one turned off that was to do with the fuel and air mixture in the exhaust. The second one is to do with the ABS Control Unit. Yes, I have read up on all of the other forums...seems to be a very common problem indeed. My car only has 50K miles on the clock since new. -
BMW X5 - compensation 19 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Not long after we had it, things started going wrong, battery, electrics, catch on boot, etc......this soon lead to major things like, gas suspension, drives, fuel pumps etc. After investigation we discovered it had been clocked, and that it was an ex police vehicle. All of which we did not know when we bought it. To cut along story short, after attempts to have the car dealer rectify the problem, which he did not, we took our case to trading standards, after just over 3years, our case was heard in court and we won our criminal case against the car dealer.
