In 2006, they were approached by the London Development Agency to once again run motor sport in the park. The date for the first event is 30/31 May 2010. The plans for the event are to make it a very special day out for the family in the heart of South London, taking the park back to its heritage while supporting two local charities. -

Young Motoring Writer of the Year Competition 22 Sep 2001 (News)
Well here's his chance (and anyone else's for that matter). None other than The Daily Telegraph is running a Young Motoring Writer of the Year Competition. You've got to be 17 to 25, you can't already be a professional writer and you have to write a 1,000 word feature on 'The Future of Motoring'. It must not be more than 1,000 words (and if you can make it EXACTLY 1,000 words, then that's good practice for the editing discipline you will need). -
Full Bi-Fuel Range from Volvo 23 May 2001 (News)
Volvo calculates that even taking account of poorer economy with LPG, because the fuel only costs 38p a litre at service stations, at current fuel prices the saving on fuel costs alone over three years and 45,000 miles in a 1.8 litre S40 would amount to £2,769. Owners of cars running on LPG also report engine oil remaining cleaner for longer, providing yet another economy. Prices of Bi-Fuel Volvos, together with CO2 ratings are as follows: S40 1.8 S LPG 168g/km CO2 OTR Price £17,020 V40 1.8 S LPG 168g/km CO2 OTR Price £17,870 S60 2.4 LPG 191g/km CO2 OTR Price £20,695 S60 2.4 CNG 161g/km CO2 OTR Price £21,495 V70 2.4 LPG 193g/km CO2 OTR Price £24,460 V70 2.4 CNG 164g/km CO2 OTR Price £25,260 S80 2.4 LPG 193g/km CO2 OTR Price £22,840 S80 2.4 CNG 162g/km CO2 OTR Price £23,640 More at www.volvocars.volvo.co.uk -
Real MPG challenge: Range Rover Evoque covers 530 miles on a single tank 5 Jul 2016 (News)
Diesel exhaust fluid, or AdBlue as it’s sometimes known, has become a common requirement in many cars to ensure they achieve Euro6 emissions standards. And all of them will shut down the engine if the fluid runs out. The fluid, a solution of urea, water and other chemicals, is injected into the exhaust to help reduce NOx emissions. It’s used in direct proportion with the amount of fuel burnt, and as this was a press car and had most likely been driven hard over many of its first 8000 miles, the fluid had run low. -
Happy Birthday: Alfa Spider 9 Mar 2016 (News)
It was a combination of safety legislation, emissions control and the emergence of an all-new Spider, based on the same platform and running gear as the Fiat Coupe and Alfa Romeo GTV that finally killed off the classic model. By the time that happened, in 1993, The Graduate’s Benjamin Braddock would have been 48 years old, or roughly the same age as Mrs Robinson was supposed to be when she famously seduced him. -
Motors Live TV Race Day, Castle Combe, 7th May 27 Apr 2012 (News)
Both ancient and modern have two bites of the cherry, with the added excitement of the 'Miglias' and 'Se7ens' running together. In the 'Se7ens' are Gloucester drivers Darren Thomas and Roland Parsloe and from Coleford in Somerset, Julian Proctor, his car running in the 'S' class. Peter "the Mini legend" Baldwin will be a favourite, fresh from his 'Miglia' pole position and a win at Donington Park. -
Radicals to Battle at Castle Combe on 1st October 20 Sep 2011 (News)
The man who has benefitted from Di Claudio's skills in 2011 is Newbury's Nick Clark whose Suzuki Swift has been transformed into a front running Class C car. Clark has enough of a lead to make it almost impossible for Russell Poynter-Brown to pick up another title, especially as Weston Super Mare's Will Burns and Ditcheat's Charles Hyde-Andrews-Bird are around to steal those valuable points. -
Roaring Start to Cholmondeley Pageant of Power 15 Jul 2011 (News)
With so many cars, and approximately 75,000 visitors expected over the weekend, the Pageant of Power organisers have taken on over 500 race stewards and marshals to help keep the event running smoothly. The most expensive and perhaps most famous of the race car entrants is the Auto Union D-Type, a legendary 'Silver Arrow' Grand Prix car from 1938 believed to be worth more than £9million. -
Goodwood celebrates record Festival of Speed 6 Jul 2011 (News)
Goodwood staged a memorable tribute to the centenary of the Indy 500 race with 42 significant Indianapolis cars present, 33 of them lining up on the ‘grid’ outside Goodwood House and running up the Hill, driven by a host of famous Indy drivers and accompanied by some suitable pageantry, including a marching band, the singing of the traditional Indy song ‘Back Home Again in Indiana’ and guitarist Jeff Kollman playing the American national anthem up on the roof of Goodwood House. -

Classic Italian Car Auction in April 11 Mar 2009 (News)
The car was originally owned by Frederic S Bennett, the Englishman famed for reversing the fortunes of Cadillac 100 years ago by winning the Dewar Trophy in 1908, and for completing the Bennett Run in 1903 and 1953. Bennett acquired the Nash new in 1930, and owned it for 26 years. Believed to be the only remaining example, it is quite outstanding, having undergone a comprehensive, nut and bolt restoration over many years, including a new, hand-built, American ash frame. -
The Mot Files: What does the test involve and why is it important? 18 Feb 2019 (News)
Headlight washers on vehicles first used from 1 September 2009 (if they have them) and daytime running lights on vehicles first used from 1 March 2018 (most of these vehicles will have their first MoT in 2021) will also be checked. How much does it cost? The maximum fee for a car is £54.85 and £29.65 for a standard motorcycle, however many MoT centres and garages offer discounted prices. -
Mansell’s F1 Williams to be auctioned at Festival of Speed 6 Feb 2019 (News)
He sealed that memorable year’s Drivers’ Championship at the Hungarian Grand Prix in mid-August, with five qualifying rounds still to run. Mansell became the first Briton to win the World title since James Hunt in 1976 and, in parallel, Williams-Renault won the 1992 Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship. Overall, this car contested 13 World Championship-qualifying Grand Prix races, winning five and finishing second twice. -
Warm up to winter 28 Feb 2018 (News)
Heroic, committed, stupid… call it what you will but I’m a big fan of running a classic over winter. Of course, it needs to be the right kind of car. I’ve run all kinds of stuff during the darker months, including an MGB that never demisted and a ‘never again’ Morris Minor. -
A Grand Monday: Mercedes-Benz E220 W124 29 May 2017 (News)
It'd repair easily enough at a good bodyshop, and not too expensively, either, but an insurance repair would have factored in an entire rear quarter panel, which would have run into thousands. Critically, there are no nasties on the MoT history, suggesting the all-important rear subframe is still sound as a pound. And at 173,000 miles, it's barely run-in. We're sure it won't be perfect, and we can practically guarantee there'll be stuffing hanging out of the driver's seat bolster, but in pricing terms W124s are on the up, and you'll struggle to find better for £850. -
Five Grand Friday: Chrysler 300C 21 Aug 2015 (News)
We remember the launch of the Chrysler 300C very well. Mainly because it seemed to go on for about two years. It became a bit of a running joke that every few months there would be another invitation to drive the 300C, despite the fact there was still no UK launch date and no prices either. Still, we did get to see a lot of the South of France.
