Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Next-gen Kia Sportage launched

Published 15 September 2015

Kia has unveiled the fourth-generation Sportage at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new Sportage gets bold styling and a redesigned cabin and improved economy. Expect to pay £18,000 when it reaches the UK in early 2016.

While the new Sportage retains Kia's traditional styling cues, including a ‘Tiger nose’ grille, the new model is radically different to the outgoing car, with a bluff nose and large, bold LED running lights the most obvious changes. Wide rear wheel arches and a tapering window line lead to slim LED tail lights, which are linked together by an illuminated strip.

Inside, the cabin gets a complete overhaul with more high quality materials and a new infotainment system, with a large colour touchscreen dominating the dashboard. The Sportage gets a new steering wheel and centre console, with large buttons and dials for the heating controls and media. Depending on which trim you choose, the Sportage will be available with leather sports seats and ambient lighting.

For the first time, a new ‘GT Line’ specification will be available, with sportier body kit and more power. As with previous models, the Sportage will accommodate up to five adults, while the boot will offer around 500 litres of storage with the rear seats in place.

Kia hasn't released any details about engines yet, but expect the line-up to include a range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, offered with two-wheel or four-wheel drive. Rumours are also circulating that the Sportage will get an all-new powertrain, which might indicate a hybrid of EV option.
