More Buyers Than Cars at Auction Today 3 Jan 2003 (News)
With only one car hall running at Blackbushe today, it got pretty crowded and there was some almost feverish bidding from private buyers hoping to nab a New Year bargain. And there were a few. How about a 2000W Chrysler Neon 2.0LX with a/c and leather and in silver sold for just £2,925? -
SMMT Calls For Licence to Trade 18 Sep 2001 (News)
Take, for example, the case of John Green who e-mailed today about a steering rack problem on a five year old prestigious German car. He purchased it from a franchised dealer, covered by the manufacturer's used car warranty, which lasted for 12 months. After 14 months, the power steering failed. The franchised dealer quoted £1,210 plus labour and VAT to fit an entirely new steering rack and would not countenance any 'goodwill' payment despite the fact that the car was only two months out of warranty. -
A Grand Monday: Saab 900 14 Nov 2016 (News)
It comes with a massive history file, showing it has been well-maintained for all of its 236,000 miles. And yes, you read that right – for any other car, 236k could be enough to put you off. For an old Saab, it’s barely scratching the surface. The body is good, with no signs of rust, and the cabin looks fantastic – the only thing that really goes wrong with these is droopy headlining, and this has been attended to by the car’s previous owner. -
A Grand Monday: Peugeot 106 XS 31 Oct 2016 (News)
Once the darling of first time drivers, ridiculous insurance premiums for the Under-20s, coupled to schemes from new car companies to provide inclusive insurance on hire purchase deals, meant there was a surplus of old, unfashionable superminis around, and 106s have all but disappeared overnight. Now, then, is the time to save one. -
A Grand Monday: Saab 99 7 Apr 2014 (News)
Full stainless exhaust. Headlight wash wipe system works fine. New headlining fitted. Very sound car underneath. Engine is very smooth and quiet and the gearbox works fine. New fuel pump and fuel pipes. Overhauled brakes with recon calipers and new pads.' The question is - if you bought this car, would you be tempted to respray it and make it look mint again? -
Ford sells 12,000 on Scrappage 3 Jul 2009 (News)
Independent analysis of Ford's registrations by www.cleangreencars.co.uk shows that the average CO2 of a new Ford sold under the scrappage scheme is 134.9g/km, while the average for a 10-year-old car was 188.4g/km *. These figures mean that each new Ford is emitting 53.5g/km less than the car it is replacing. Assuming national average mileage of 8,400 miles for private motorists **, that equates to 8,736 tonnes of CO2 saved annually by the 12,000 new Fords registered. -
A Grand Monday: Rover 216 14 May 2018 (News)
It is more than passable for a 20-year-old car and the price I'm looking for,’ says the advert. It’s also not one for the purists. Inside, the cloth interior is gone – replaced by full cream leather one. It’s currently sitting on MG wheels and has blue-tinted rear Lexus lights. -
A Grand Monday: Volvo 480ES £995 4 Sep 2017 (News)
Inside there was a futuristic cabin and underneath it boasted front-wheel drive – the first of the car maker’s model to do so. Built in the old DAF factory in the Netherlands, the 480ES came into being partly to keep the factory operating until a new generation of Volvos came along to replace the ageing 340 and 360 Series. -
A Grand Monday: Alfa 33 13 Jan 2014 (News)
The stack of history in the advert, and the fact it has been written in plain English certainly gives me a warm glow about the prospects of the car - although I think we'd all appreciate a longer MoT. But that's splitting hairs. It's a 20-year old Alfa, a sure fire classic, and far more interesting than the million Mk2 Volkswagen Golfs out there - what's not to like? -
Citroen Launches £2,000 Scrappage Scheme 1 Apr 2009 (News)
Rather than wait for a possible Government Scrappage Incentive Scheme, Citroën is rolling out its own value-for-money deal. Citroens deal promotes the replacement of older cars with cleaner, safer and better equipped new ones. The Citroën Trade-In Incentive Scheme gives customers even more reason to throw out the old and save on the new. Under Citroën’s Trade-In Incentive Scheme, the Company will pay the following, in addition to any existing cashback offers : £2,000 - to customers with a vehicle registered before 2000 (vehicles will be scrapped via an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF).) -
52 reg Moving Out of Warranty 5 Oct 2005 (News)
Although some manufacturer’s like Hyundai offer extended five-year warranty protection, the majority will only provide cover for the first 36-months of a cars life. With recent research uncovering the cost of labour rising to an average of £65 - but as high as £150 - an hour, the typical repair bill for a 3-year old car now hits £308.25, escalating into the thousands for any major mechanical failures. -
The MoT Files: MoT Test Results By Year of Registration 6 May 2014 (News)
The year of registration and MoT pass rate data gives an indication of the point when cars turn from being 'old bangers' to classics. The pinch-point is 1999: cars registered in this year have the worst pass rate of any since 1980, which points to this being the year when owners either scrap their cars or invest in maintenance. -

Classic cars to take over Chelsea 5 Jul 2011 (News)
Held a stone’s throw from London’s King’s Road, many of the displays at the show will feature cars, events and fashions from the 1960s. There’ll be tributes to the Jaguar E-type, celebrating its 50th birthday this year, and to another 50-year-old, the Mini Cooper. “We have reserved some Showground places for unusual Minis and Jaguars. -
A Grand Monday: Saab 900i 11 Apr 2016 (News)
The tyres also look good, with a new set fitted to the rear recently. So it could justify its £1375 price tag, especially as demand is growing for these cars. While Saabs are pretty strong mechanically, they can rust just like any other old car if they're not looked after. -
A Grand Monday: Yugo 311, £999 18 Jan 2016 (News)
‘Yugo – I’ll stay’, so went the joke when my old college mate Keith used to offer people a lift in his 1988 Yugo 45. Back in the Nineties, as an impressionable late teenager, anything bearing the badge of the former Yugoslavia’s national car brand was game for a laugh. -
Only Fools and Horses E-type for sale 18 Aug 2016 (News)
This was, of course, a staged accident with no damage caused to the car itself, which has been lovingly looked after by its owner for its whole life. This Jaguar has been known ever since as ‘Boycie’s E-type’. Finished in Old English White with a blue leather interior, it comes with its own die-cast model signed by both David Jason and John Challis, presented in a frame with mounted stills of the car's appearance in the episode. -
Success for 'web only' car club 23 Sep 2014 (News)
The basic aim is that the group is fun, friendly and free – with no marque bias or membership fees to worry about. “I suppose if we had a motto at all, it would be that if you like your car, then so will we,” Ian told us when we met at his most recent gathering. His regular venue is The Old Waggon and Horses, located on the A451 roughly midway between Stourbridge and Kidderminster. -
