  • Passat TDI 110 Auto 8 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Was looking at buying the above motor. It's done 80000 miles and is a 1999 SE model. It seemed to drive fine but wondered does anyone have any thoughts, good or bad on these. Have owned a few Audi tdi's so know roughly what to expect. Also, is there an easy way to tell the difference between the S and SE model.

  • Socks and snow chains 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I often have to drive home very late at night on ungritted country roads. I don't really like snow chains, but I have heard you can now get 'auto socks' a kind of woolly thing you put over your tyres to give more grip on packed snow and ice (honest!).

  • Hesitant S60 15 Aug 2005 (Forum)
My 2.0T S60 has begun to stutter and hesitate for the first few minutes of driving from 'cold'. It can be quite jerky and just has no go at low revs. After a few minutes it improves and finally all is well again, until the next 'cold' start. It's not like the engine is missing, it's almost as if not enough fuel or air is getting through.

  • Reflective jackets 26 Jul 2005 (Forum)
It is now compulsory in some EU countries to have a refective jacket in in your car Austria and Italy for sure I think Germany later this year. One other unrelated subject the much vaunted German toll system for trucks that uses high end technology and cost millions {against the sticker in the window in Austria}does not work very well and does not pick up trucks that are driving without paying.
  • Road pricing per mile VOL I 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4610755.stm 1) So the French can drive for free on our roads? 2) Civil liberties? 3) I can't believe that the government will not vary the cost depending on how "green" your car is....although I do like the simplicity of the idea if not point 1 and 2.

  • X-Type spontaneous combustion? 5 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi all - a neighbour of mine's X-Type caught fire whilst parked overnight on his drive a few days ago. Apparently the Fire Brigade have ruled out foul play and it appears some sort of wiring fault in one of the rear light clusters may be to blame. Anyone come across any similar problems with these cars?
  • Mondeo Mk3 TDCI ECU reset 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Every time I have my mondeo serviced the MPG increases from 50 to around 54 for the same sort of motoring. I think the car has a ecu which adjusts the engine according to the way you drive, so i would like to know how to reset the ecu myself to save a few bob!! Any ideas?
  • Vauxhall astra temperature problem 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The current problem is with the temperature gauge. It flucates between the 90 mark and 80. This is more noticeable when driving around town. On the motorway the change is not as great. I have checked the coolant and I am not getting any oil in it and it does not seem to be losing any. It also never overheats. Any ideas.
