Skoda Octavia 1.6 Elegance Estate - Fault Code 16706 5 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The latter code seems to be causing following problems:- Car starts fine from cold. However, car difficult to re-start when warm after filling with fuel. Also occasionally stalling at traffic lights. Usually re-starts, but I get EPC light and car then runs lumpy. Once cold again and/or reset codes, car starts and runs fine. Recently, car stalled and wouldn't re-start and towed to garage who replaced starter motor, but codes still appearing and car still running lumpy after 'warm' restart as above. -

economical car recommendations? 13 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I'd be really grateful for some guidance on getting a new car. My criteria are: diesel good fuel economy automatic I would prefer: cheaper end of the insurance bracket 1.6 - 2l engine (I assume that's reasonable? Don't want it to struggle on the motorways) I'd also welcome advice on leasing vs buying. -
Death of the second hand petrol market? 2 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I know my personal situation is skewed by living in a rural area near the Irish border (diesel is significantly cheaper in Ireland compared to the UK). But I know that's not the only factor e.g. tax legislation and percieved fuel economy. I was wondering if the situation is similar elsewhere in the UK? On the plus side, whenever they do have a petrol in stock the saving vs the diesel tends to be pretty significant, so as long as I plan to drive it until it's worthless I should be able to get a good deal. -
You tell me! - Another what car thread! 17 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I'm currently driving an '03 Focus TDCI, lowered and remapped, but after 5 years I'm considering a change and would like something a bit sportier and more responsive to drive BUT also want decent fuel economy (i.e: 40mpg+), a car with enough space to put my bike in or which can take a towbar for a proper bike rack, with a high enough top gear for relaxed motorway cruising. I also don't fancy a diesel with a DPF, so have been looking at older diesels pre-05 and those without filters. -
Suzuki Grand Vitara 2/0 TD XL-7 - Accelerating problem 28 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I am hoping that someone could give me some guidance, I have noticed that when I try to acclerate, when the car gets to 3000 rpm, it starts to struggle to get past 3000 rpm, it is as though the car is not getting enough fuel. Sometimes, when I try to put my foot down on the accelarator pedal there is what I would describe as a dead spot, when I release it slightly it starts to accelerate again. I went to try another XL-7 which was slightly older and had more miles on the clock but it seemed to have a lot more power than mine and had no difficulties in getting past 3000 rpm. -
Honda Jazz - Ta very much! 22 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Here are the details for any who are interested: 2006 (06) Honda Jazz 1.4 DSi, 38k on clock 1yr mot 6m tax full tank of fuel 1yr warranty 1 yr AA 2yr Gear box warranty (as onTSB mentioned by GreaseMonkey) 2yr Rear roof/boot seal warranty (again I used info from here to secure this) Full service before collection Cost: £5,500 Whilst I think the styling of this car is a bit OAP for my tastes it certainly fit the bit for the practicality we need with a small child and should hopefully cope with the mileage demands we place upon it. -
Volkswagen passat - Passat 2006 1.9 TDI engine won't start 20 Jun 2011 (Forum)
After that I can't start the engine at all, I get towed to vw centre, they made diagnostic with scanner didn't find any false only 1 glow plug not working (i do believe it not big effect on my problem), later they made wiring loom and they advise me to change the turbo, but they not guarantee that after changing turbo the engine will start, also i don't believe that turbo not working because before the engine stops it works perfect. I'd made few investigation's, check cam-belt, fuel pump so on everything is working, I' tried atoday to start engine, few times it's started for the 5 sec, and cut again. I'm lost don't know what to do, also considering to change engine speed sensor, what do you think, or any helpful options will be appreciated, many thank you -
Electric cars 13 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Also, if you had just about got home and plugged the thing in, what if you needed to go back out? Car's dead, and you can't just walk to the garage to get a can of fuel, you've got to wait, or have lots of extra batteries for it. The author doesn't quote the range; he only says that with extra batteries and motors it could do 250 miles on one charge. I do over 75 miles a day so it'd be absurd for me to buy a car like this to have it conk out on me halfway home. -
Mile-munching estate 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
An estate format is the most practical for both dogs and shopping, and of course mpg as I'll be spending more on fuel than the car. I'll want a mid-high range diesel for drivability - nothing underpowered as the mpg is rarely worse for the bigger diesel engines in any case. Reliability is important... that that rules out anything French. -
Fiesta Mk4 1.25 Zetec 1999 - Fiesta power loss under acceleration 27 May 2011 (Forum)
I'm not 100% but my impression is that it only starts happening after the car's warmed up, and not when it's cold just after starting. Could it be something with the fuel mix that gets hidden by the auto choke? After a bit of googling I thought the problem was down to the MAF sensor, but turns out the car doesn't have one! All the little hoses coming off the engine appear to be attached and intact. -

Volkswagen Golf III - ABS Engine Code, Running SUPER rich. 1 Mar 2011 (Forum)
So far I've only replaced the Lambda, to no avail. I'm not new to VW, but I am new to the MKIII, so fuel injection systems (besides Bosch CIS and Digifant II) are new to me. Could someone please point me in the right direction as to what I need to start troubleshooting? Before I start guessing, and replacing parts that don't need it. -

ive had an auto electrican around with his laptop, joined it up, it did not display a fault, there is fuel being pumped. he messed around for a while, and strongly thought that it is the ecu. could it be anything else. i have the ecu, but need him to fit it as its not obvious which immobiliser is with the car. it has no keypad it runs fine aside from this problem -
Ford Focus - LPG system failure 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
It then stopped working nearly 2 weeks ago and has not worked at all since then, however I must add that i'm running the car on petrol at the moment, with no problems apart from the huge expense, doubling my fuel costs overnight! I've filled up the LPG system to the brim in the hope that it may help increasing the tank pressure, but the same problem occured. I don't have any real knowledge on this LPG system and don't know about them in general. -
Clio dCi 65 - Lots of black smoke and no power 1 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Also, if the turbo shaft had snapped it would not be delivering the required boost so the boost sensor would prevent the injectors from delivering the excess fuel which is producing all that black smoke. * No engine light has come on. Can you kindly advise? Mnay thanks in advance and Happy New Year! -
Ford Mondeo Mk3 2.0 Duratec - Cylinder 1 misfire 25 Nov 2010 (Forum)
On starting the car it seems to still have a misfire on this cylinder as I can hear it missing and when I take the spark plug out of cylinder one I can see moisture, I think this is fuel, from the misfire, but cannot be 100%. I am completely out of ideas, can anyone help? -

Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0TD stuttering/jumping/kangaroo & grey smoke 1 Nov 2010 (Forum)
(Great fun when pulling out of junctions/roundabouts!) No warning lights on the dashboard. I had the fuel filter changed as i thought it might be a supply issue. Cured it straight away. However the problem has returned in the last 2 days. The Ford dealer in Hove cannot see me until next monday but there is a garage right behind me (who did the filter) who will do the repair but are not able to do diagnostics.
