  • Skoda Yeti 1,2 TSI DSG - Skoda Yeti "skittish" driving behaviour 7 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I have a 2 year old Skoda Yeti 1.2TSI DSG with 10,500 miles on the clock -  mainly on rural roads. Recently the car has started to feel (what I can best describe as) "bouncy and twitchy/skittish" but with neither steering judder or other sensation nor straight line deviation even under braking - and less noticeable on motorways.

  • Volvo C30 - Volvo C30 61plate acceleration issues 9 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Please help. I purchased a 6 month old Volvo C30 with the new style engine from a local Volvo dealer in March 2012. I returned the car within three weeks due to intermittent acceleration issues. Over boost, halt over boost, flat or overly lively..
  • nissan micra 2006 S - nissan micra power steering 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The power steering went on my 18 year old daughters car a 2005 micra 2 weeks after she bought it 10 months ago.   At a cost of £900 we had the power steering reconditioned and refitted.   It lasted for 6 months, then just as she drove herself to her new Uni City 100 miles away it went again after she had to do a tight turn.
  • Stupid EU bike rules --- DAY GLO MAN 28 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hello I refer to the new legislation being drawn up in that good old euroland reference riders visability. I ride my bike with the compulsory headlight, on but if Euroland has its way I will become Mr Hi Vis man, with all my reflective clothing. If a car or lorry driver cannot see me with my lights on then they should not have a licence and surely by now the plea of 'I didn't see him or her' should be the first indication to the law that the driver needs  re educating with a driving test , which would include a compulsory eye test.
  • Death of the second hand petrol market? 2 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Hi, just wondering if my experience of the second hand market in northern Ireland is typical or whether things are different in Britain. I'm in no hurry to buy but I've been keeping an eye on local dealers for a 2-3 year old petrol engined Mondeo sized car. I've almost decided I'm wasting my time because all the local dealers' stock is almost exclusively diesels in that bracket. In fact most of the dealers near me don't even bother stocking petrols in any bracket except performance models or very small cars.
  • Ford Fiesta Encore 1998, (1.3 petrol Endura-E) - 1998 Fiesta 1.3 fails MOT on emissions 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Changing the spark plugs is a last resort, because they will probably snap when I try. It runs fairly smoothly, with no obvious misfires. This is a rusty 13 -year-old car, so if I can't fix it for under £500, I will probably replace it. Any suggestions on what else I should do?
  • Insurance renewal notice disaster 14 Mar 2011 (Forum)
My friend never received a renewal notice from her broker (who had handled her insurance for many years) and was driving at a roundabout when the car in front abruptly braked and she bumped into it. It then turned out that my friend had unwittingly been uninsured for a short while. The other driver put in a large claim to the Motor Insurers Bureau, mainly for alleged whiplash injury since damage to her very old car was minimal.
  • Ford Focus 07 - Headlight electrical fault 23 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I'm wondering whether this is maybe a regular electrical fault with our model or if we're just unlucky? I would have thought a 3 and a 1/2 year old car is very young to be developing electrical faults? We have the lights set auto generally so they are on more often than I'd probably do manually but that wouldn't explain the it being one particular side.
  • citroen xsara 1.4 2000 - engine and interior vibrating 7 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The car drives perfect and mpg is as expected, although from a standing start it does feel as if its missing slightly. It also passed the mot recently (no probs with emissions) where there was an advisory about small leak in the front exhaust but i cant see/hear anything abnormal.
  • Ford S-MAX - S-Max reliability and the alternatives 3 May 2010 (Forum)
A few months ago I posted a question here about the best family estate car for £18,000. With our 101,000 mile 307 needing a £1000 service, we are thinking seriously again about changing car and finally getting enough space for our young daughter and all the associated paraphernalia.
  • Vauxhall Astra H estate - Driving technique for a small diesel? 1 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Some weeks ago, I posted about my interest in retiring my old petrol Mondeo estate and replacing it with a 1.3 diesel Astra estate which had been run as a hire car by a good friend.  Well, I took the plunge and the Astra is now mine - or at least, it will be when the documents come back from the DVLA.
  • Audi A3 + S3 (2003 - 2008) - 07 2.0 Unusual throttle response 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
If I drive a little quickly into a bend it does not respond as I am used to in all my previous (Front Wheel Drive Cars) whereby I could lift off the throttle at the right time and the front end would bite in and I could steer the car round. If I try it with the new one when I back off the throttle the engine revs stay the same and I have to hit the brake to prevent me from overshooting.
  • FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - 3rd Gearbox on a 1.4 Sporting 11 Aug 2009 (Forum)
There are several posts on forums with the same problems and appear to be mainly the 1.4 gearbox. Interestingly I had an old style 1.2 punto 2003 and the gearbox did exactly the same by exploding and blowing hole in casing. I was main driver at that time and no way was car abused. I would be interested in hearing others comments or experiences.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.7td Anyone used cylinder head/block sealant?. 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I'm a bit concerned about what I might find on an engine that's done 212,000 miles, even though it loses no oil at all, and a 14 year old car that isn't worth anything now.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0tddi - no fuel in filter 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Ive got a 51 reg 2.0 tddi mondeo estate, the other day while driving it started to splutter and throw out loads of smoke and finaly cut out and would not start again,i had the car towed home and was told it may be fuel filter blocked and may needed changing ,so went bought new filter took old filter off and noticed there was no fuel in it,so before i put the new filter on i filled it with diesel connected everything back up and it started straight away i left it running for 10 mins then i cut out and would not restart so i disconnected the filter again and once more no fuel in it.Could it be the lift pump under the car near the fuel tank and also is there a relay that runs the pump.I know there not cheap is there any way of testing to see if it is the pump.
  • Good deal M. Benz ?? 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I know about the new model before anyone pipps up... my question is - at £10 k will it be too much still in this climate for a 4 year old car ? They are not smart at that dealership , cars shift slowly , when you text their mobile info line with a specific inquiry and follow the web link that appears , you just get binary codes .
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1995 1.4 PTE SEFI erratic misfire when warm 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It is now suggested that the ECU may be at fault and should be replaced, if this is done will the new unit require reprogramming to the car by a dealer, I am told that the coil unit will have to be replaced as well as part of the ECU system. Recently the car has started to show the symptoms within a few minutes of driving from cold and is becoming dangerous to drive.
  • Main Dealers gasping? long service intervals 7 Jul 2008 (Forum)
It seems some are now gasping like Carp in a de-oxygenated pond, waiting for the one-bite-at-the-cherry (courtesy of long life oils) new car to come back for its only service in the warranty period. Previously, the 12 month low mileage or 12,000 miles, had meant, with luck, three services, or bites at the motoring cash cow, before the car moves to Independents.
  • Modern diesels - is there really a problem? 26 May 2008 (Forum)
She seemed to be spilling quite a bit down the side of the can and then when she'd filled it, she re-fuelled the car with, as far as I can recall, the same stuff. My only thought at the time was that she was filling the can for the lawn-mower - and it was going down as 'expenses'! After paying, she drove away in the large Volvo estate and my wife said "hang on, wasn't that a diesel car - it was a D5 - what was she putting in the can?'.
