Smartening up my car 9 Jul 2003 (Forum)
As I've mentioned I have a Honda CRV ES auto with all the bits. I love it, but it's coming up for 6 years old and has had a very mucky winter. Just had it serviced and MOT'd so it's mechanically sound, but now I'd like it valetted (interior isn't too bad really - thanks to other half have got mats on top of mats where the kids sit, and it's immaculate) What I want is a good scrub underneath, polishing up, waxing whatever, and something to smarten up the wheels, black bumpers and trim and the alloys need some attention too. -
Saab 9000 Auto.. Buying advice ??? 27 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I have noticed that most of the vehicles on the 2ndhand market have done enormous mileages. Is this a problem with these cars ?? The depreciation also seems quite steep on them. Does this mean they just become money-pits once they are 4 or 5 yrs old, or are they good value 2nd hand and generally reliable ? I have had japanese cars for the last few years so am used to trouble-free motoring...... -

Double event 28 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Cars were relatively expensive due to less being available. In 1964 I only paid £624.00 for a new VW Beetle. I imagine that if you worked it out cars today would be relatively half the price. Were these the good old days of motoring..... -
Jaguar XF 2009 - Restricted Performance warning persisting 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
I wouldn’t have thought the fuel level was low enough to cause any problems as I often drove my old car with much lower levels with no issues. Any insight and advice welcome as I am still trying to get to grips with learning all the foibles Jaguar seems to have, including the battery going flat if it’s not taken for a long run every week which I can’t always do. -
2000 Citroen Xsara 1.4i (manual) - Citroen Xsara - No AC 28 Jun 2024 (Forum)
He went back and they said there's a leak and that the condenser needs to be replaced, but because the car is too old, manufacturers no longer make that condenser model. I was able to find these two sites that supposedly have replacement condensers: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/condenser-10455/citroen/xsara/xsara-n1/8803-1-4-i? -
Honda Jazz 2013 - Cambelt versus Chain, but why? 12 Dec 2023 (Forum)
The other day I happened to be speaking to a family member who owns an 18 plate Civic, bought new from a Honda dealer. He told me that he'd just had the cambelt in his car replaced at Honda's expense, though I can't recall exactly why. That got me thinking about my car because although the mileage is low, its now over 10 years old. So I did some research and discovered that the Jazz has a chain rather than a belt, which was a big relief, but also made me wonder why the presumably much more expensive Civic has a more fragile belt Is it common for manufacturers to vary the use of belts and chains across their ranges? -
Do your research - Electric cars 5 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Just had an interesting weekend with a couple of old friends, one of whom has a shiny new Audi Q4 E-tron. He normally charges at home or at work, so when... -
Chevrolet Matiz - General advise about lack of power going uphill 27 Feb 2023 (Forum)
He also said the alternator needs changing and that would stop the battery charging, but again I’ve had no battery/warning lights on the dash. I know I don’t know much about the mechanics of a car but confused how the clutch would make the car sluggish uphill. Any thoughts welcome. -
Toyota Yaris - Best fuel grade to use... 4 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Wife and I split our time between UK, Spain and Thailand, and have a car in each country. Right now I am in Thailand and, on a bit of a whim, decided to get rid of my old Toyota Vios and order a new Toyota Yaris. The car is being built right now and I will be collecting before the end of the month. -
Peugeot 306 meridian (S) misfire 15 Apr 2021 (Forum)
In addition if a new ECU is required is it particularly unwise to try and pick one of these up from a scrap dealer? I hear they need to be initialized for the specific car they are to be installed in. Is this true and if so can it be achieved without the assistance of a dealer? -
Honda Jazz/ Ford Ecosport - Could be time for that change... 19 Jan 2021 (Forum)
In particular I've been looking at the Ford Ecosport. Brought in as a replacement for the dear old B Max, it looks attractive and if you go for the Ecoboost engine seems to have decent performance. But that's all I know about the model. They're not cheap, but an Ecosport would be affordable if I get a reasonable part ex for the Jazz ( not a secure assumption as things stand in the second hand car market). -
Smart Motorways?!?! 25 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Just to note, i know you lot will be interested, both vehicles were RangeRovers, yesterdays was disgracefully, new model unknown cos they all look the same to me, todays was an ageing P38 and that old warrior is entitled to the odd hiccup. -
Hybrids and Starting Trouble 16 May 2020 (Forum)
In current scenario folks in our road are using their cars far less than normal. One neighbour intended to go shopping last week found his 18 month old Toyota Hybrid wouldn't start. The AA came out and jump started it and he took it up to M16/19 and back. -

Q5 CR-V - Audi Q5 OR Honda CR-V 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Need decent sized boot space, comfortable and reliable. I don't change my cars often (I've had current Honda Accord for over 9 years). Either would be auto and diesel. Budget is between £20k - £25k. A 2 years old, low mileage CR-V is almost £5k cheaper than like for like Q5. -
1.6 TDCi - Ford Focus - turbo problems 12 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Ford it seems just walk away from warranty claims on an engine which is known to have major turbo problems. Is this right, can they refuse to repair the turbo again? The car has been serviced regularly, is a 55 plate with 50.000 on the clock - hardly old for a diesel. -
Land Rover Discovery 4 - Slight Transmission Oil Leak on MoT Adviso 28 Jun 2018 (Forum)
To give an example, I took my old Land Rover into the main dealer for servicing and they often advised work which wasn't ever mentioned on MoT advisories as I took it to a trusted independent for MoTs that I've been using for 30 years. -
On street parking 15 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Sorry if I am asking a question that has already been asked. I live on a small sub urban lane and my neighbour has got 9 car parked outside the from of our houses and another 4 parked in his drive. We used to have a wall infront of our house that I took down to create two parking bays for us (I do have a dropped curb). He lives alone and really only uses one car. -
Review: Dyson V6 cordless vacuum 19 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I have a previous version of this mini Dyson, and although it's fine in general terms there are distinct disadvantages when using in a car. You need to buy the additional really stiff brush otherwise the soft brush supplied merely tickles the dust and has no chance of lifting animal hairs or other bits stuck in carpets. The supplied long "thin" sucker up of dust is useless as it's width prevents it going down between the car seats and central console and between the seat and door panels.
